Easy Squishy Crochet Scarf - what do you call this stitch???
Super straight sides, easy 2 row repeat, and lots of texture, my Triptych Scarf crochets up quickly and is so squishy and cosy. You can use your choice of yarn - both worsted weight and Australian 8 ply (DK yarn) work really well and I’d love to see it in a chunkier yarn to suit properly chilly weather.
This is a beginner friendly pattern with a few extra tips so that more adventurous or experienced crocheters will get the best results, while those who are newer to crochet can stick with a simpler approach.
If you’d like to show me your finished Triptych Scarf, find me on Instagram as wheeliemadeitcrochet
Hope your scarf turns out looking lovely, happy crocheting! 🧶💕

    Hi Wheelie, is it possible to use a 4 weight yarn for this beanie? Would I need to go down a hook size to achieve the right fit?

    • @wheeliemadeitcrochet
      @wheeliemadeitcrochet 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi 👋 I can’t give you an absolute yes or no, but it *may* work - try a 4mm hook and your yarn. Once you’ve got the starting chain and slip stitched to make a circle, test to see how it fits on your head (I’ve got some tips in the video). Also it might be worth doing a small swatch of half double crochet with the yarn and hook to see if the fabric you create will be too stiff to be comfortable. Sometimes even if you get the right size with the smaller hook, it’s not worth doing because the beanie ends up being less wearable. Saying that, I’ve made this pattern quite frequently with a 3.5mm hook and no.3 yarn to make kids’ beanies, so using a 4mm hook and 10 ply/worsted weight might be absolutely fine depending on the yarn. Let me know how you go? Hope it works well for you! Wheelie

    • @wheeliemadeitcrochet
      @wheeliemadeitcrochet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you, I’m so glad you like my video ❤️❤️ have you already started making your throw blanket? I’ve found there isn’t really a ‘standard’ size (and what’s called standard seems to vary a lot by country). For my blankets I tend to do it by eye, chain the starting chain and see if it looks right - I know that’s not terribly technical! If I were to give you actual measurements I’d have just googled them, I honestly just make most of my blankets either to fit a specific bed or based on whether they’ll cover me when I’m curled on the couch 😉 I hope that’s some help, sorry I’ve been so long replying, I’ve had a couple of weeks of ill health and haven’t been around TH-cam as often. I love this tutorial. One question, when you come to the end of a skein of yarn how did you join the next skein. I know there are many ways, I always like learning new ways. Thank you in advance.

    • @wheeliemadeitcrochet
      @wheeliemadeitcrochet 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much, I’m so glad you found it helpful! 😃 I think I’m a little like you by the sounds, I’m always trying different ways to bring in the next colour or ball of yarn, looking for the perfect method. I actually do have a one particular technique I pretty much always use for this specific pattern, I like to bring in the new yarn and then alternate a couple of stitches crocheting with the tail from the old yarn and a couple of stitches crocheting with the tail from the new yarn for several stitches (I’ll explain below) and then I usually actually sew in the tails as well. Because this blanket is one I give as a baby gift or donate it to be sold as a baby shower gift, I want it to be indestructible, definitely no chance of ends escaping. I make sure the joining happens at the beginning of one of the blank squares, so the slightly thicker stitches don’t show too much or interfere with the dragonfly design. What I mean by ‘crocheting with the tails’ is I bring in the new yarn on the final yarn over of a stitch, leaving myself a long tail of both the new yarn and the old yarn, then for the next double crochet I yarn over and insert the hook into the top of the next stitch as usual, then I yarn over with not just the working yarn, I also hook one of the tails (doesn’t matter which). So I have a double thickness of yarn on my hook when I pull up a loop (at the same time I also make sure whichever tail I’m not crocheting with is held against my work so it will be wrapped in the stitch as well - complicated!) then I work with the two strands held together for the next part of the stitch: yarning over and pull through two loops. Then I drop the tail and with just the working yarn I yarn over and pull through the final two loops to finish the stitch. So I’ve basically crocheted the bottom half of the stitch using the working yarn and one of the tails, while also crocheting over the other tail. I do that for the 2nd stitch after the join as well. For the 3rd and 4th stitch I use whichever tail I didn’t use for the first two stitches, I work these stitches over the tail I’m not crocheting with. The 5th stitch is with the first tail and the 6th stitch is with the second tail. Then I go back to crocheting as usual and when the blanket’s done I weave in the tails. It’s super secure. If you need to unravel your work you can’t just tug on it as usual, you have to go slowly and kind of untie the threads. I know this is quite a long complicated reply and I’m not sure if it will be a new technique to you, or how experienced you are with crochet - or how badly I’ve explained it! Let me know if you’d like more detail. I’m sure someone has made a video demonstrating this, I have a vague memory that Hooked By Robin put one out a few years ago 🤔 I’d love to make a video on it but I’m not able to make videos at the moment, so it’d be a long wait. All the best! Wheelie

    I tried this method over this past weekend, and found - even though my stitches looked just like yours, it was difficult to crochet into it - seemed so tight. I used a 4.0 hook with the appropriate yard. I tried a 2nd time with a 5 hook for the yard and switched back to the 4 hook - and it was still difficult. :( Yours looked so easy. Any tips? I really want to make this work - I loathe the flimsy foundation chain - it just always looks so sloppy at that end of the blanket.

    • @wheeliemadeitcrochet
      @wheeliemadeitcrochet 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there, that sounds frustrating 😬 and I’m sorry that I don’t have an ‘easy fix’ kind of answer for you. I do find this cord easy to crochet into now, but my tension was definitely too tight my first few tries and it wasn’t smooth to work into until I’d done it a few times. I’ll tell you what worked for me and hopefully that’ll help you! My tension was too tight because I managed to pull/tighten up with the ‘tail’ after I’d made each stitch in the cord. So that side of the cord was then too tight and not easy to work into. When you next try making the cord, think about deliberately loosening up your tension - but also, between stitches, be careful not to accidentally tighten up the previous stitch by pulling on the ‘tail’ before yarning over with it. I hope that helps a bit. Let me know how you go? Wheelie

      I’m so glad you’ve worked out a way so you can crochet it when you’re offline too ❤️ Is the pattern working well for you? I’m sorry I didn’t reply sooner, I haven’t been very well and there’s also a strange thing happening where I don’t seem to get any notification when someone replies. If you run into any problems could you start a new comment instead of replying? That way I will see it! 🤞🤞 ❤️Wheelie

    Thanks so much for this video! it was very helpful :) I used a merino wool (because the colour was exactly what i was looking for) and that also worked quite well!

      Thank you so much ☺️ I’m really pleased the pattern turned out well for you - and so interested to hear about the merino wool! I’ve actually just been given an enormous bag full of pure wool yarn (isn’t that about the best hand-me-down ever?) and have been planning some projects, so you have perfect timing. I’d be really interested to hear how your charger cord ‘wears’ over time - I’ve found the cord covers made with 100% cotton yarns stay looking good for a lot longer than those made with acrylic, at a guess I think that wool will last well too. Hope you have a great weekend (with time to crochet) 👩🏻‍🦼Wheelie

      That’s so great! Colour changes were the hardest thing for me when I was learning to crochet, but with this square, by the end of a square you’ve done it so many times it doesn’t feel that tricky anymore!! 😜 I’m so glad you enjoyed making it - have you finished the cube now? My boy still has his, it’s looking a little squished a couple years down the track but that means he’s actually played with it 😆 all the best, Wheelie

    I was looking for a border to finish off my gender neutral baby blanket and I fell in LOVE with this border pattern! It looked intimidating at first, but I was happily surprised how easily it flowed together for me! We don't know the gender of our baby, we are keeping it a surprise! I can't wait to show off my blanket at my baby shower this Saturday!! I have subscribed to your channel and look forward to trying other projects you have available on your channel.

      I hope your baby shower goes well! I’m so glad the border pattern turned out well for you, I know it can look like a LOT is going on, so it’s really great to hear it worked out so well for you 😊 I had the biggest smile when I read your message, it’s so lovely to think that you used my pattern to put the finishing touch on a blanket so special. I’ve still got the blanket I made when I was pregnant - I used it every day with my son right up to when he was at kindy. It feels like that blanket holds so many of the good memories of the early years of my son’s life 🥰 I hope your little one will feel loved and safe when they’re wrapped in it (or lying on it). It’s so special to make something for them, before you’ve even held them in your arms. Hope I’ll ‘see’ you around again the comments 😊 All the best ❤️ Wheelie

    i would only say that, since this is a cable cover, acrylic yarn might not be smart. If it gets damaged it could short and cause a fire, and acrylic will only make the cable more flammable. Natural fibers will be better for this if ur concerned about this

    I never comment on a video but must give credit where credit is very much due. Thank you for this. Absolutely the clearest, best tutorial I've watched, and what's more, these gloves fit perfectly...just the way I want them to and have been searching and searching the past couple years for the perfect pattern and I found it! Complete with a perfect tutorial that I wouldn't want delivered by anyone but you! Very grateful I found this. Grateful for you. Thank you.

    I ended up playing with your pattern, and created a striped version by simply working a second color in the other direction and chaining 4 at the end, so I could keep both colors live and not have infinite tails. I'm quite happy with it!

    Hi, I'm from Canada and I love this pattern, just wondering if it was possible to know; if I wanted to make this scarf wider, what is the multiple of stitches I need to consider?

    • @wheeliemadeitcrochet
      @wheeliemadeitcrochet 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there - thanks so much, I’m glad you like it! With this pattern your starting chain can be any *even* number, so you’ll be able to adjust it to be however wide as you like 😊👩🏻‍🦼Wheelie
