  • Join me to open the May 2022 Crate Crochet Subscription Box! This is the 4th Crate Crochet Box in my 6 box subscription and I’m enjoying the subscription but I am thinking of trying something new as well. If you have a crochet subscription that you’d recommend, let me know in the comments.
I love crochet, yarn and fun, if we’ve got that in common you should definitely subscribe.
    I’m also on Instagram WheelieMadeItCrochet

Ohhh I can’t use the little lobster claw stitch markers. I just love the plastic ones! I think I must be missing something as everyone else seems to love them!

Me too, plastic all the way! The others are really pretty… but aside from it being fiddly to open and close a lobster clasp that small, it’s also nowhere near big enough to fit around a stitch you want to keep track of. So how are people using them?!? 🤔 I was hoping someone would pop into the comments and say ‘oh you’re using them wrong’ (which would be true as I ‘use’ the ones from the Crate Crochet boxes by promptly losing them 😬) 😂

Thanks for sharing. I've never been able to make a pattern that I've received in a subscription. I haven't had one that I like the pattern. I would be very frustrated having to buy more yarn. That would spot me from getting the subscription box again. I did get knitcrate for a while, but that went through some shocking times over the last 12 months, so I stopped that too. There are some indie dyers in Australia that do different subscriptions: they are more about yarn, and often don't have patterns. I look forward to anyone suggestions of crochet patterns.

It’s frustrating isn’t it - it’s such a wonderful idea, gets you out of your crochet comfort zone and takes all the effort out of it - no hunting ravelry for a pattern and then finding it’s not available anymore or is hard to match the yarn - but that is spoiled by creating the problem of hunting for somewhere that sells the yarn and paying the high postage costs for just one or two balls 🤔 I do like the idea of buying a subscription from a local dyer! Thank you for the suggestion, now you mention it I do remember seeing a couple advertising on instagram, it would be exciting to try out their yarn. Have a lovely week! 👩🏻‍🦼

Andy at “Attic spin dye” has lovely yarns. However they are British I think. I don’t know of any in Australia, there must be some. I buy a lot of my yarn from Bendigo woollen mills, they have bamboo, cotton and wool yarns and very reasonably priced. They mostly come in 200g balls; if you want 50g this is not for you .However, `hey have regular specials so I buy my yarn then, due to living in a very warm climate I do a lot of cotton crochet.. if you have any suggestions for hand dyed Aussie yarns do let me know . Kind regards from northern NSW 🌈🦘

Just found your channel, I've been looking for a crochet magazine and subscription box. My first ever try at a subscription box was an absolute disaster. I signed up to the Yarn Club. I thought I'd buy the first box and wait to see what it was like. Then I thought it will be great. I'll get a full subscription. Well they say computer glitch. No box, even after emails. Very disappointed. I did get a refund for the 2 months sub. So really looking forward to see what other people have signed up for. Thank you. 😊

Hi Lorraine 😊 That sounds like terrible service!! It turns you off subscriptions a bit, doesn’t it? I had a similar experience when I tried to buy a Japanese treats subscription for my son, we were learning about Japan and it seemed like such a great way to make it all a bit more exciting. Lots of emails back and forth, they were always just about to post the boxes but it never arrived and one day they just refunded me. Never heard from them again. I’m glad I got my money back but somehow it doesn’t really make up for the disappointment/time, does it?
But back to crochet… Unfortunately I didn’t film it, but I tried buying a ‘sock club’ from ‘Daffodil Road’ a Tasmanian independent dyer. It is a bit like a subscription box but they sell each month separately. You get to pick the yarn weight and fibre but it’s a hand dyed mystery colour. There are a few random treats included, but there is no pattern. The yarn was absolutely gorgeous. The only problem is you buy them one at a time and they seem to sell out months in advance. I didn’t want to buy more than one til I knew I liked it (it was just after the experience with the Japanese treats subscription 😬) - I absolutely loved it when it arrived but then it was sold out for months. I’ve actually forgotten when the next one is coming, so at least it’ll be a lovely surprise 😂😃 And I’ll definitely film the next one, so you can check it out.
Otherwise I haven’t found anything but Crate Crochet so I’ve kept my subscription going for a bit longer while I look around - and I want to see what the new version of it will be like. I’ve just started opening a small backlog of Crate Crochet boxes so in the next few days you’ll get to see what the revamped boxes offer, maybe they’ll suit you 😊
      All the best! 👩🏻‍🦼Wheelie

@@wheeliemadeitcrochet thank you so much. I'll keep searching too, and share what I find. It's such fun when my yarn order come in, the smell of the yarn, the feel,( a picture can only tell you so much, ) and to see the true colour, I've only been back into crocheting this past 10 months. I started off with the cheap acrylic yarn, making bits a bob's. Then friends and family started giving me yarn they had stored away or from the church shops. So I started making beanies and donating them back to the shops and community groups, it's been such fun. Giving me such pleasure, keeping me busy, I could do any craft , but crochet I can share , it's all about the giving and putting my hands to good use. And my brain, a lady told me what she wanted, I could not find the exact pattern, and came up with a design, I made what I thought she would like, and wow it was great, she wanted a hood with a scarf or endless scarf . My first one was in winter tones, the second one is in blues of different shades. I'll try and ad a pic.
I'm very happy to have found your channel and look forward to any updates 😀 I wish I was so brave ☺️☺️. It's much appreciated ❤️ 💙. Take care , warm regards Lorraine 😊

@@Sunshine-and-lollipops Thank you, please do tell me if you find anything halfway good! You sound so much like me 😊 I’ve had so many craft enthusiasms over the years but I come back to crochet because it really does keep my brain and my hands busy, and you can crochet from bed (I did try to paint watercolours in bed… not a great success 😬😆). A lot of what I make goes to the gift shop at the hospital where I have regular treatment, and that is the best feeling - I feel useful, giving a bit back to the place that has helped me so much (and the women who volunteer there seem like such a great group, I’m hoping I’ll get to know them better over time) and I can crochet as much as I want to without drowning the house in crochet 😂
The hood/scarf sounds beautiful, I’d love to see it - are you on instagram? Or could you email a photo to me? Inventing new patterns is another best bit of crocheting, making that ‘perfect’ gift for someone is a thrill.

@@wheeliemadeitcrochet I will let you know when it's done and I have pics. I have instagram, but very rarely use it. I'll will post them on there for you . It's lovely to talk to you. I had to laugh, I wanted to paint too, I bought paint pens, there ok, but not worth the money and hype. 🌞
I know with crochet, I can spread my crochet out over my bed and put it down when i rest, i can pick it up and keep on going where i left off. I can follow along on yt. When I want to learn a new stitch and I love listening to Audiobooks while I'm crocheting and i have Not made a mess. perfect. Take care and thank you so much.

I’m in Perth, so we’re not too far away 😄 - I ❤️ audiobooks too! My audible membership is the best money I’ve ever spent and the library has quite a few through their app as well, so that paired with my crochet hook gets me through the day/night. And I’m chronic for falling asleep face down on my crochet hook 😮😂 and now I’m going to stop watching youtube videos and flicking through my instagram and actually open one of the new crate crochet boxes - hopefully the vid will be up tomorrow 😁

Just found your channel. Looks great, however back ground music is very distracting. I’d rather just hear you talk. Please don’t take this as a nasty comment .,it isn’t .I’m just saying I don’t like background music as I can’t concentrate on what you’re saying. I was brought up in an era where there wasn’t music every single place you go. I had none at all. Anyway, they are just my thoughts. I’ll look at more from you as I enjoy your content,,wishing you all the very best. 🌈🦘

Hi Soffity - absolutely no offence taken (particularly as you were so careful and kind with your feedback, thank you for that). I watched the video again and I see your point, I think it is a bit intrusive to have the music running when I’m speaking. I’m not very confident with the sound/music side of my videos so I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and I’ll keep it in mind when I edit the next video (which I’m doing this week, so your feedback is really well timed). I’m so glad you’re enjoying my content, hope you have a lovely week! 👩🏻‍🦼Wheelie
