BIG THINGS ARE COMING.......A PROJECT 380 UPDATE
IMHO run a blow-off valve, your turbo will thank you for that. You may not get those cool compressor flutter noises, but you'll we well-compensated by the "woosh" of the BOV (that is, if you vent to air). Love the progress you're making!
Will it stay muted after turning off and back on?
I love your videos and been following pretty closely to the point where mine looks similar but hopefully I’ll be done in roughly the same timeframe as yours
I can't imagine a rollbar doing squat if it isn't attached to the frame itself and not just bolted to the chassis. whats that like 16 gage steel in a floor pan?
Yeah it may be thin but structurally strong.
Id say a blowoff valve would look and sound good and would be better for the turbo. Also stupid question, but you rebuilt the engine ages ago. Does it matter if the assembly lube sits in there for ages? Will it start just the same as if you rebuilt it a few weeks ago?
Yeah it should be fine. I give it two rotations every now and then
2:30 What is this bracket called? The previous owner removed it, and put in a shoddy CAI, and now I’m in the process of fitting a better one, but would like to find a replacement bracket to properly fix it, as you have.
2:30 ? what bracket are you referring to?
@@Project380 2:30 you said you’ll attach the (new) mounting bracket, to the old bracket that held the (original?) cold air intake system in. The one next to the power steering reservoir.
@@lsk7606 ahh that bracket, im not sure for definite but its probably called " front air cleaner mounting bracket "
This is definitely the best Mx5 build on TH-cam. Even better its in the UK. Just sped run the whole series til now, cant wait to see this thing actually being driven. Great car knowledge from you!!!
😊😊😊thank you that means the world to me. i cant wait either
Something im toying with on my mk1 is running a custom pipe from the tsi intake into the filter and then on into the turbo
yeah if this was a mk1 i definitely would be doing this
Is mayonnaise an instrument?
anything is an instrument if you use it wrong enough
0:16
??
I know tegiwa sell 4" velocity stacks that come with air filters on them, so you get the best of both i suppose. The filters look like they would fit in that space easily
ahhhh i completely forgot about Tegiwa, ill go take a look
My Vote is for HKS, no filtration all the noises
HKS filter?
Titanium bell with mesh behind it to protect the spooly
yeah i just gotta find out how to do the mesh bit
@@Project380 make a mesh cap to sit over the turbo flange, then silicone coupler over the top with jubilee to keep it all in place
I do like the burnt blue one with the blue pipe. OR how about that massive silver bell mouth but have it chrome gold ❤
thanks mate, no gold on the car at the mo so it might not go nice
THANKS!! Nice clear instructions and easy to follow. BUT ..... I've found some little bits of glass, which tells me that at some time in the past, the window has been smashed. Now, whoever replaced the window has not done a very good job. The original bush was no longer connected to the window and was sitting at the bottom of the guide rail. (I have the new bush from Moss.) Also, the two plastic "window stoppers" are completely missing. Now I just have to find them and the metal bits that the bush screws onto! Any ideas??
thank you. 🥲😯how could someone do that, knowing that they are leaving glass in there and do half a job. have MX5 parts got the stops in stock?
@@Project380 The problem seems to be getting the connections. I'm talking to a breaker who might have them.
@@rogerbruton ahh, well i hope you have some good luck
Are the bulb numbers the same on a nb1?
i should imagine so but im yet to take the mk2 apart
M8 that’s how aircraft engine works. Have a look some videos. It’s all about pressure and velocity of the air. The air speeds up as reaching the tighter dia.
ahhh your right, thank you
@@Project380 cmon u helped me a lot during my built. Thank u
What's the difference between the 221 and 441? Iirc the 441 costs £400 more and is like a grand.
Think of all the effort and money you've put in to this build, and the skill you've used to build it. Think of all the engineering knowledge that has gone into the parts you've used by all the independent manufacturers. It's been a massive undertaking and it's become a thing of functional and physical beauty. When you're at car meets or shows, when you're at photo shoots, or if you're standing around B&Q car park with your bonnet open late at night, by all means, fit your velocity stack. But come on, behave yourself. Put a filter on it.
😂😂 the voice of reason has spoken. i shall sort some sort of filter out 😊
I think that aluminized velocity stack would do ya good with just a short run intake pipe to behind that headlight , but I like the burt look .. I feel the aluminized bigger bell will actually do more for ya as to flow tho tbh .... I just run a turbo guard , but I'm a dingdong anyways lol 😆 🤪... really brotha it's what makes you happy , but performance wise , I think the bigger bell and a short ram will do you the best for flow .. and they make turbo guards big enuf for velocity stacks if you worry of that (street drive mine so I atleast did a guard , but a filter was restricting my flow so that's on you if u go full filter or just a guard ) but yeah man , it's looking good and hope ya can get to rip it soon brotha .. peace and love bro , keep it rad , stay safe , and build on .. l8z
thank you 😊. its good to hear a real world experience so yeah ill look into some sort of guard. much love bro
I like the bell-mouth (the burnt titanium one) BUT how are you going to keep stuff from being ingested into the turbo? At the very least put a screen on the opening. If this was my car, I'd put a filter on, no matter how "bad" it might look.
thank you, yeah ill look into a guard
Any pointers regarding the crank pulley with an NB 1.8 auto? I don’t have the option of holding the engine in gear in the traditional sense. The bolt hasn’t been off in 22 years and looks really rusty along with the pulley 😆
hmmm i never thought of this, i actualy made a tool to bolt to the front that wedges up against the chassis locking the crank, its a bit janky though
How did you jack the car up off the pinch points without bending the body? I tried once and it bent too much
this one had been repaired so i was brave, the slightest bit of rust and they will bend, i would suggest the point where the wishbone meets the subframe, nice and strong
@@Project380 will give it a try thanks
Got any tips for those two bolts behind the wheel arch cover? Couldn’t get them off for the life of me
im not gonna lie mate, they probably gonna snap and your gonna have to drill them out and tap them.
It’s kinda insane that there is a very limited amount of air intake kits that aren’t expensive but they are getting harder and harder to find
Tell me about it. 😅
Looking to purchase the kit soon for my mk2.5 svt, i'm aware they don't come with ABS brackets and i can't for the life of me find any solid info on how people rectified this. Did you completely remove your abs system or just disconnected sensors and fuse as stated on a few sites? 😅 Keep up the good work dude 👍
Yeah I was looking into this for when I go the BMW gearbox route but not sure how I'm gonna get sensors onto the hubs. I've got a 1998 Jap import so it didn't have abs in the first place
I don’t know if this will help anyone but when taking off my hoses to replace them a lot were seized. WD40 and a screwdriver to work them off done the trick
Good trick
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Its 29mm not 27 BTW!
Yeah I think it depends what model you have 👍
I'm dreading doing something like this too, I'm at the level of your old coil harness for now 😅
We all gotta start somewhere. Learn and then improve
I know it's not really the focus of the video but do you mind if i ask about your ME ecu? Do you think it's better than mega squirt? I'm in the middle of a build and trying to see what someone that has experience thinks about it?
I wouldn't say I'm experienced with ECUs. There are pros and cons for both, but looking back at it I would of waited and got the me422
As a turbo miata owner, this is a game changer for servicing
O definitely
That is amazing work. Your capabilities on a technical level are tremendous! Keep it up, learning a lot from you over here.
Much appreciated! Thank you
Right on bro ...I ha e mine tucked to the sides aswell , but I did not shorten and clean up like u did .. I just tucked the extra 😅... ya deff did a rad job bro and clean too 👌🏽..mad props brotha .. peace and love bro , keep it rad , stay safe , and build on ... l8r brotha and keep having fun
Thank you I appreciate it, it means alot
@Project380 most definitely my brotha ... got to give credit were it is due ... and it really does look good and clean bro 👌🏽
no grease??
no need for grease
@@Project380 I just copy paste what it came on top of goggle search page: To be safe and effective a wheel bearing hub will need to be greased. Neglecting this critical maintenance task can lead to premature bearing failure, which can cause costly repairs and potentially dangerous driving conditions.
yeah so these bearings are sealed bearings and are already greased so no need to grease more
Am I insane to buy an MX5 with limited ability to fix the thing myself? Probably... Are they all rotten? probably.. Do I want one.. yes.
so when are you picking your mx5 up ?......
Imagine not saying the sizes... could have been a perfect tut
😂
Mannnnn you a life saver! Thankyou so much!!!!!!!
i hope it helped 😊
Every product I purchased from ultra racing doesn't seem to fit properly ' or needs some type of adjustment ' don't think they even bother to check the fitment ' so now I have swapped it all out for hardrace items
yeah i might have to switch up to hardrace or an alternative
Bet your neighbours wereloving that 3am cold start 😂😂😂
they chose to live next to someone with race cars 😂😂
Was following this vid, and at 6mins 30 you swap a hose for the brake booster, is thst one meant for that? Does it have a valve in?
im gonna be honest i made a mistake, but a video will be coming out on this very soon
@@Project380 it's funny you say this, I have a few frens with mk1s, one is currently running no valve and hasn't hit any issues yet, he's a sketchy fool tho. I put my old one back on so I'm yet to try the no valve vs valve brake experience. Love the vids as always man, super helpful stuff !
How do you get that twist action out if my window does the same?
twist action?
malaka, simply amazing stuff here.
thank you 😎
But how did you plumb in the return line to the tank?
straight from flex fuel sensor to take using original path the return line takes
Nice - but at £30 seems a tad expensive!
yes... but... ive tried and tested it and i think its worth it
Your video was so helpful and couldn't have done my brothers mx5 without your knowledge. Managed to only snap 2 bolts both sides using gt85 then wire brushing. I had no idea how to get the last bolt that is hidden holding the front r arch to bumper. You sir are a legend. I love mx5s but not as much as rust does 😂😂😂
only two bolts? your very lucky yeah they love there rust thank you, i appreciate it 😊
Clear and to the point!! Included useful information like torque specs and bolt sizes. Definitely my favorite style of mechanical instruction video. Hope you guys keep making them!
thank you i appreciate it 😊 the videos are still coming
Hi It looks like the stock intake to the air box is more or less in the same place as the new one. So effectively, all you are doing is moving the filter from mid flow to the start of the air flow. How or why does this make a difference. I believe K & N filters provide better air flow than stock. Does the foam filter provide even better flow?
your moving the filter away from the hot air of the engine bay me personally i would of wanted a k and n filter but it wasn't my car
was that just sealant you used on the top of the engine in between the head and the head gasket?
you mean the head and the valve cover? if so yes its RTV sealant
