summer and fall nice, winter sucks.
Is this AI? The words and lips don't match
Does it look AI? But seriously, it’s just a Logitech camera that for whatever reason lags behind. I’m not technically advanced enough to fix it!
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan I was just goofing, sorry. Good content, keep it up 👍
Fu%K the Dem's Liberal Woke BullShit ..!
When did Shopko close up
Honestly I don’t remember the exact time, I think around 5 years ago if I recall!
@@LivingInMarquetteMichiganI wondered the same thing... Thanx! (Shopkos) eh?
imj v ery interested in moving to the UP and im looking for a decent bit of land with a residence already on it. i just have concerns about the amount of work in this place. i love the outdoors, but im a recluse. i currently work out of home doing IT stuff, i just want a nice hhouse on a nice bit of land and im not trying to break the bank so heres to hoping. ide say a budget would be around 300k at the moment maybe more
Reach out and let’s chat! There’s opportunity, just depends on how far out you want to be.
The small town vibe one is 100 percent accurate, i joined the military when i was younger and left the u.p., 8 years later i came back and i feel like i was spoiled living in the big cities versus here
I take my son to greenbay just to go best buy quite often 🤣🤣🤣
Stop building condos and start building affordable housing
Its expensive, thats why i stay in ishpeming
You should do a video for ishpeming/negaunee 💪😎
Born and raised down in Port Huron. Living in Texas for the last 10 years. My wife and I have been planning on moving up that way around Marquette in a few year's. These videos are awesome for helping inch us closer and sooner. Any advice for my wife(shes born and raised in Chihuahua Mexico. Winters are gonna be awful for her lol)?
I appreciate the kind words and watching! Well if she’s from the Chihuahua and you’ve been in Texas for the last 10 years it’s hard to prep someone for a winter in the north! Even if you’re from Port Huron the weather is vastly different being in a snow belt! Typically lots of snow for many months and gray skies for a majority of that time!
@LivingInMarquetteMichigan oh its definitely gonna be a huge difference for the both of us, no doubt. Definitely gonna take us some time to accumulate but we're both excited to move up. Appreciate you getting back with me so quick buddy 🙏
Locals really don’t want more people moving here - it’s pushing those of us who actually work in the community and grew up here out. Plus - we do not have enough healthcare services for the retirees especially as they age. Speaking as a health care worker. Absolutely, devastating to see money win and lots/habitat cleared for unaffordable housing.
It sure is a place many are starting to discover, especially during the summer. Many decide not to move her due to some of the things you mention and the long winters.
I would have said Demonrats and there agenda.
Awesome
Vacationed twice and i love it. Plan on retiring there.
It’s a great place to be!
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan we went there last 4th of July and just loved it even more.
I think MQT has gotten a little big for its britches, price wise. I've been looking in a few places in the US, especially MQT, VT, and ME, and all of them have exploded in price, but right now, MQT might be the most unreasonable. VT used to be the craziest place, but in the last few months, it's suddenly gotten a lot more reasonable. New listings are for less than they used to be, and a number of homes are sitting longer and getting meaningful reductions. That's kind of the trend in most places in the US but MQT still seems to be operating in the covid days where people were getting hundreds of thousands more than pre-covid. I get that it's beautiful and well positioned for global warming, but a number of places are similar even though they aren't nearly as remote. VT, for example, is just 3-4 hours drive from NYC, Boston, etc if you need anything like specialized healthcare, but getting to MQT is a full day in an airport each way. The healthcare is terrible (I see people there bitching about it constantly, many saying that they're thinking of moving out because of it), there are very limited higher paying jobs available (and if your remote job requires time in office, it would be hard as hell to make that work), and of course it lacks many amenities. Don't get me wrong, I love MQT. If I didn't, I wouldn't be considering moving there but I just don't get how it's commanding some of the prices I've seen. I recently saw a place go for $615K that I was kind of considering which listed for maybe $585K which I thought was overpriced. It wouldn't have gotten more than $475K just 3-4 years ago. Basically, I think I'm seeing the kind of "irrational; exuberance" I saw in VT for so long where people with too much money and too little sense snapped up anything even remotely nice, overnight, in cash, and often with no inspection. Every stock trader in NYC bought their pandemic and global warming escape hatch and thought nothing of it, but now they seem to be thinking a bit more before jumping. In MQT, they still seem to be jumping first even though most of the nation is starting to find sanity. That said, in the last week, a couple fairly nice places in Negaunee got meaningful markdowns. Maybe it's the start of a correction.
Thanks for the detailed comment, it’s appreciated! For sure there are some houses that will command multiple offers, but there are a handful that are seeing price drops. Part of that is due to seasonality of it.
Thinking this video is a ploy to stop newcomers-which is what destroyed my hometown.
how deep is the average snowfall...were moving from somewhere that snows about 4 ft deep. I know Marquette gets a lot of snow but is it you have to dig yourself out of a wall of snow in front of your door deep or just a couple feet at a time deep?
It’s certainly not dig yourself out of a wall deep! It also depends what area of Marquette county you move to. The primary reason for drifting at doors is from the wind blowing it up against a door.
What do you think about this statement given to me by a recently retired MQT police officer. He is opinion is that Maquette will "love it's self to death". I found it an interesting perspective from a city offical who has lived there from the lowest point in the mid 80's to present. His outlook was positive for visitors, but nuetral or negative for residents.
I in fact think it's a very positive place for residents. The problem is that many agents don't act on their clients behalf and "sell" them on it, yet don't consult them on it for them to make the decision that is best for them. Too many times people will move here and then move away when its just a different way of life in the U.P. is all! It's a great way of life, but many aren't used to it and can't adapt!
Most of these points sound like opinions rather than data taken from a census or survey. What sort of evidence was used or can be checked? It's possible this is why some leave but it's probably a combination of some of these plus 100's of other reasons.
I mean, by all means, feel free to fact check. This is from personal experience of friends, family and clients, online resources like reddit and Quora and others. Yes, likely 100's of other reasons too, but who's going to watch 100 reasons why people leave? Did I miss one, or two or 100? Sure, probably. Anyway, I appreciate the comment and for you watching!
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan I believe renaming your video with a disclaimer that it's your opinion rather than making it sound like given truth or absolute facts would be better.
I mean it's TH-cam...if someone takes a video like mine or others to be absolute truth then that's not really my problem.
Too many roundabouts, trannies and liberals. Otherwise its a great place.
Lived in Traverse City 10 years. People hate Traverse City in the summer because of the traffic, congestion, rush. Even if you live in T.C. you get other TC residents scream to you to leave. "But I live here, so shut up." WAS MY STANDARD ANSWER. Marquette is wonderful.
I’ve lived in TC for 28 years and never had anyone scream at me to leave. Lol It’s a very small portion of people here that hate the traffic, the rest of us know what to expect in the summer.
SNOW In May ????
I mean not as common, but it can and has happened!
Great video, time stamps would make it even better. 😁
Thanks for the feedback!
And don’t forget the prison
#1 influx of hippie dippy low information lefties
Run people run. It's so dismal for months on end that people go crazy. Like zombies that will not hesitate to eat you. And it's always dark so there's no escaping them
Now you’re going to attract all those in search of zombies and big foot!
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan oh dang I didn't think that far ahead.
I was there this summer, last time was in the early thousands. Busy full mountain town vibes is what I felt. And it looked like Negauee and Ishpeming are pretty much burbs to Marquette now.
They’re all sorta blending in more now for sure!
Both are demonrat strongholds be aware if you're conservative, many karens
Dont move here you will be Eaten!
Get out of here!
Marquette has epic mountain biking. Was up there last year to do the Marji Gesick put on by the 906 Adventure Team.
I 💯 agree there! I’m not much for races anymore, but try to get out as much as possible!
i sincerely dislike everything abt this channel. i understand he's doing a job he's doing this for money not for malice, but oh my god the cost of everything here is already so high so PLEASE don't even consider moving up here. if you wanna be by lake superior so bad go to minnesota where the economy won't implode with an addition of 5 more people.
I can tell you my little channel isn’t bringing people in! People are already moving here and looking for information on the area! It’s a beautiful place, but it’s not a place for everyone as I point out in the channel. Thanks for watching!
To raise a family up north does such a dis justice. these kids are at a disadvantage to being raised down below. Most have no idea what is available as far as jobs go. Most are raised on welfare or very low income so they grow up thinking that is normal. If anyone is thinking of raising a family up north in a small town think twice. I was raised up north and shocked when I moved away I got lucky.
I appreciate the comment, but will have to respectfully disagree. I was around many that had the opposite experience. But yes, both situations are totally possible
Hello. Glad to find your channel. I'm looking to buy a small home with a big piece of private land or just some raw land. 40-80 acres. Year round accessible/liivable. It's been a dream of mine to have a big piece of property in the wilderness. I am retired. I've been researching the Marquette area for a while now. Looking down around Crystal Falls and Gwinn. I've never been so I am open. Are there any good areas you'd recommend down outside of Traverse City for land and/or a small cabin? Would be grateful for some guidance. I'm planning to come up this fall and camp and explore for a few weeks. Look at some homes and property. Thanks so much.

Marquette is lovely. It is the perfect locale for the active person. Trails for hiking and biking and cross country skiing, trout fishing in the rivers, hunting, climbing, etc.
Absolutely great place to be!
I moved back to this area a couple of years ago. But not because of affordability. Gas prices are higher here than most of the midwest. Health care is terrible. I travel 5.5 hrs for my heart health. The city of Marquette home cost and rental compete with rent prices in major city of the USA. And wages as you covered are lower. I lived in Minot North Dakota for a decade. Utility prices were way more affordable out there. Ya this area isn't really affordable. You don't live here because of affordability and job opportunities. You live here because this area has many outdoor opportunities.
I am a veteran looking to move to either Marquette or Traverse City MI within the next 3-6 months. Your videos are amazing, and I am so happy I have subscribed to your channel. One thing that is important to me is the healthcare for my disabilities. Marquette would be my number one choice, but I hear horror stories of the local hospital. Could you provide any additional insight on this? Also, I do have your contact information for when the moving time draws nearer.
Your best bet would be to contact the hospitals or search for whatever specialty care you may need. Not everyone’s experience is terrible and not everyone has to commute to get attention for their specialty care.
I am not a veteran but I thank you for my freedoms! Traverse city just built a new VA clinic and I’ve heard good things about it. I’ve always had great experiences with Munson hospital.
Ya, health care is terrible. I travel to Midland Michigan for my heart health issues. UP Health Care really dropped the ball on my heart issue. I heard the health care was bad in Marquette when I was considering moving back. I found our first had it as bad as I had heard. Most jobs up here are in the service industries. Stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. So, as an employee, money isn't great. There are some opportunities for entrepreneurs, I believe. But the outdoor opportunities are incredible. Hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, atvs, biking, boating, hiking, foraging, and so on and so forth.
Thunder Bay , snowmobiling , ride the Luge , 18 miles of one way trails , you can FLY ! 9200 acre pine tree plantation at the end of the trail before you head for Munising , nice place to powder ride for the long track guys
Lots of nice long walking trails in Marquette, nice views too
Longest state to drive corner to corner , 900 plus miles , from the bottom eastern side of the lower peninsula , to the western side of the U.P. And the U.P. Has 1700 miles of coast line , the whole east coast has about 2000
Love our MI shoreline!
New drinking game. Every time he says "Marquette, MI" take a drink.
Also becoming like traverse city. I lived away in San Diego of course came home. It’s sad to see Marquette turning into traverse city. Where the condos are now and hotels used to be little hidden beaches and trees. When you came home from traveling you could see beautiful Lake Superior. And you would say to yourself, I am home. Now it’s blocked by ugly hotels and condos. A liberal nightmare too.
Nightmare? Thoughts and prayers sweetie😄🌊🌊🌊
Please stay out. Prices for homes and rent are so high now because to many people from other places are moving here. So stay out! Locals only
New Game: Every time he says "Marquette Michigan", you take a shot of superior kombucha or 51K!
Also, good luck finding work able to afford the rent in Marquette lately. Luckily I rent from family or we couldn't do it. It's quickly becoming unaffordable for the common. The service industry will continue to suffer. Don't be mad at anybody of service for being overworked and grumpy. Most of them are doing the job of two to three people.
Im trying to move to Marquette fr
Let’s chat!
Traverse City is closer to the real world and swells with people from don below & out of state in the summer .Marquette is far far north .Although plenty of the usual northern Michigan nonsense like the bottle drugs ,wilfull stupidity , bad schools, guns , incest , laziness ,militia ,conformity but still has an exciting frontier quality
So MAGA
Marquette is the best place ever😀
Marquette sucks, dont move here
I see what you did there
Housing prices will continue to rise. Rates will start falling Sept 2024.
