So I'll tell ya some truth now. I spoke with this man for thirty minutes, whilst he was smoking chicken and spending time with his family. He is solid and a decent person. Thanks Travis for your time and dedication.
I was born and raised in Marquette. I graduated from NMU with a welding certificate and an associate's degree in welding technology. I had to move since there aren't any welding jobs like production work, but I visit my family and friends on the weekends. There are the union halls and I signed up to start work for the Iron Workers of Local 8. My main goal get my journeyman card, get married, and live in Ishpeming or Negaunee. It's nice to have someone who knows the area of Marquette and to shed some more light on the town.
I was there this summer, last time was in the early thousands. Busy full mountain town vibes is what I felt. And it looked like Negauee and Ishpeming are pretty much burbs to Marquette now.
One year ago today I left Marquette after spending two amazing weeks there. I'm from Germany and I was visiting my boyfriend who lived there at the time. Now, one year later, we're living together in Germany, but I would love to go back and visit Marquette again. The U.P. has a special place in my heart.
Born and raised down in Port Huron. Living in Texas for the last 10 years. My wife and I have been planning on moving up that way around Marquette in a few year's. These videos are awesome for helping inch us closer and sooner. Any advice for my wife(shes born and raised in Chihuahua Mexico. Winters are gonna be awful for her lol)?
I appreciate the kind words and watching! Well if she’s from the Chihuahua and you’ve been in Texas for the last 10 years it’s hard to prep someone for a winter in the north! Even if you’re from Port Huron the weather is vastly different being in a snow belt! Typically lots of snow for many months and gray skies for a majority of that time!
@LivingInMarquetteMichigan oh its definitely gonna be a huge difference for the both of us, no doubt. Definitely gonna take us some time to accumulate but we're both excited to move up. Appreciate you getting back with me so quick buddy 🙏
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan last time there 2004 it has grown a lot, don't think my grandpa house is still there. when i lived in the U.P. i always said summer is july 4th if you are lucky. i actually have worn my winter coat to watch the fireworks. the summer and fall are ok. the winter totally sucks.
This all depends on the person! If you’re typically used to warmer weather you make like the cool summer nights and cooler spring and fall! Yeah I know we’ve had snow on days like today in May!
Please do tell. Really... I'm not being a jerk. What are the worst things about winter that you can recall? My wife and I are going up in August to scout for properties.
@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan People do the same thing about NJ. January by far is the only month here where the winter is brutally cold, then it tapers off to cold the rest of the way. A guy I met from there admitted NJ in January is comparable to where he was from. I told him of course! How else do you think the Giants won in Green Bay to go to the Superbowl that year. Giants practiced in that horrible cold here in NJ/NY to get acclimated to the tundra! Up there though you get four to 6 months of brutal COLD!!! Then it tapers off to cold.. One month here of that kind of cold is enough for me.
@@russmode Another mistake is coming to NYC in January the cold air is damp. It isn't dry air cold. It never is because of being by the ocean. Same for Marquette. All you have is lake superior. No mountains, trees, hills. No protection from brutally cold damp air from the north. Boston Massachusetts winters are pretty harsh too. More so Than NYC. Clearly still not as bad as Marquette.
Well I grew up in WI and moved to FL 3 years ago (Doesnt feel like home at ALL) So ive been looking at moving back to the midwest and Marquette is such a cool community! Lots of nature things to do on top of the other things ive watched in videos, cant wait!@@LivingInMarquetteMichigan
Oh I’m sure it’s a completely different vibe in FL! You’ll like some of my other videos I’ve got coming! You know where to find me when it’s your time!
I live on the Space Coast of Florida. People moving to the area are killing what made the area wonderful. I hope that doesn't happen to you. We also lived in Woods Hole, MA. They were able to avoid the development (franchise free!😀) but it's still the take off point to Martha's Vineyard.

It’s always good to see more folks in the trades! Are they not looking for welders on the railroad or the mines?
The longest year of my life was the day I spent in Maquette.
I think you may need to explain!

I love your videos, Travis!
I appreciate that!
Thanks for the details in the town. I am currently in Lexington, Michigan. Hopefully, I can make it up there soon.
Lexington is another great town!

Use to have family there, Uncle and Dad owned the party store by the quarry. Now there is a bunch of condos on it.
Thanks for commenting! There’s been a bit of change here over the years, certainly not as developed as other areas across the country!

Yeah...sure. Jekyll and Hyde city. Summer is gorgeous, wonderful. Winters are absolutely brutal.
Winters are brutal for those that aren’t prepared for winter! That is one of the reasons I point out in another video!

Yes, the winters keep the summer dreamers from moving here. Thank goodness.

I don’t think that’ll happen with the weather, slower development, the remoteness, access to medical, etc. It is a great place though!
