    Your size matters as well. Let's say you weigh 100 kg. You're already heavier than almost 99% people. If, on top of that, you are a BJJ blue belt, you are certainly the favorite against 99% of a randomly selected population. Of course, the population of people who would pick a fight against a 100kg fit guy is not randomly selected 😅

    My last gym charged me for my blue belt promotion, he said it’s regarding registration with the Alliance BJJ headquarters. Last year I switched gyms(not because I had anything against the instructor, just for location reasons), but it’s disappointing that he likely made up the excuse about Alliance HQ and just wanted money on top of my monthly membership. I paid around $75 for my promotion btw…

    It depends on which system gave you the blue belt. If it is a Gracie blue belt then that curriculum is entirely based on street combatives. Other programs that I have trained in were all sport jiu-jitsu (things like spider guard that would be all but useless on the street). The combatives curriculum does not include leg locks. I studied leg locks with a 10th Planet black belt after getting my blue belt in Gracie Combatives. If I am attacked the number one thing I am going for is the attackers back. If I can't get that I'm looking for entries into leg locks (heel hooks). Things that will keep the bad guy from chasing me when I let go and run away.

    I'm guessing the first helpful step toward this would be using motion tracking to define limits on limb and body movement so they don't break physical realities. Then motion tracking on about 30 of the top grapplers actively rolling inside a controlled environment and providing definitions. Same for 30 beginner and intermediate grapplers. Then teach the program to identify body positions in actual footage after most moves have been cataloged? Dunno, but I'm pretty certain AI will pull this off in like 15 years or less.

    Joe is heading straight for legal trouble if he isn't careful. I've heard him on multiple podcasts saying that he's just going to break someone's arm and then walk away. But what's the justification for that? You can't just break someone's arm and hope the police never find you. That’s not the kind of advice you should be sharing on TH-cam. Moreover, if you believe breaking someone's arm is justified, then you should stay at the scene and let the police and the justice system determine whether your actions were justified. Even in self-defense situations, there are limits to the amount of force you can use before it crosses the line into aggression or excessive force. The force you use must be proportional to the threat you are facing. If someone is threatening you with serious harm, using force to defend yourself may be justified. However, if the threat is minor, excessive force could lead to criminal charges or civil liability.

    I believe that the judges made the right call. What I have an issue with is that the crowd booed Levi, when he didn't deserve it, and that Kade is/was complaining about Levi playing guard. Both of them are to blame for the stalling here. Kade didn't have the skill set to either pass the guard or engage with the leg locks. Levi didn't have the skill set to wrestle. No one makes these complaints when two guys refuse to pull guard and we get a stalling match where all we see are collar ties being exchanged.

  • @josephbreza-grappling9459

    Nice episode! My opinion on abandoning the single to a bodylock comes from experience in D1 collegiate wrestling. Here’s the thing; if I get a single on a collegiate wrestler, I had to work to get and I am not taking the risk of losing it by transferring to the bodylock, or getting thrown because I transferred and push. The defense to a single is to whizzer them down and they often come up. Even when my skill is the same as the guy I going against, he will throw me if I push when he has inside hip position. He has the better position. This concept was reiterated when I started doing judo right after college wrestling. Back then we could do leg grabs. They would throw you badly if you pushed or walked behind when they had an overhook. It’s extremely standard fundamental wrestling. Nothing I say about it is remotely strange to anyone who wrestled at a decent level. And Meregali had no business being there against Pixley. As an athlete, I don’t want to get thrown when I was in a good position to score. As a coach, I want my kids to win. I have showed what you can do when you end up in the side bodylock. I throw people there all the time, but I am not pushing into their launchpad, lol

    You want Levi to open up and give Kade an advantage? And you think Andrew would have had better luck passing and would be a more fun match because he wouldn't pull out and be cagey like Kade. To me it sounds like you're acknowledging that Kade was being overly defensive. I think Kade could have found openings if he didn't bail as soon Levi tried to make an attachment and entangle. I think Levi won the 4th round according the to criteria and like Joey said all previous scoring supports that. They gave it to Kade to keep it even going into the 5th and because of crowd sentiment. Levi's only mistake was thinking he could get anything done in the 5th - Ruotolos' gastank is endless and they always save enough to spaz nonstop in the last round of any comp. Levi thought he did enough in the 4th to win (he did), but it needed to be undeniable.

    • @talkjitsu
      @talkjitsu หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think both guys were being very conservative and in a close match if you don't take any risks to put a stamp on your win, you run the risk of losing in the eyes of the judges. And it was Levi who lost in the eyes of the judges. It's not that I wanted Levi to do more, it's just that I find it interesting what made his guard so effective defensively throughout the whole tournament. Over all Levi impressed me more but imo Kade eeked out the win by being more aggressive. Though I think Levi was more effective when he was being aggressive.

    Concerning Nicky Ryan, he not lazy or any reasons you mentioned. He injured, his body failing to handle his load of training and the way he trains. Dima talked about. Maybe some self-reflection, stop trying to wrestle against every body in the room, limit spazzy rolls and of course do surgery for the god sake. He should not able to line up to a such event.

    After rewatching the match a couple of times, my only regret with Levi’s performance is that he was too one-dimensional while playing guard. There were plenty of opportunities for him to wrestle up from the bottom or aggressively chain sequences to create different angles. But he didn’t-he played it too conservatively. I appreciate how he commented on his own performance, saying something like, “Next time, I’ll do what’s necessary to be victorious.” He’s already a top 2 contender, no longer just a dark horse. Can’t wait to see him in the next big competition!

    • @JoeyBoretski
      @JoeyBoretski หลายเดือนก่อน

      my issue isnt that levi did or didnt do enough. its that for 3 and a half matches his strategy was deemed sufficient by the judges and then suddenly in round 3-5 of the finals the exact same strategy was no longer sufficient.

    That's the problem though, Levi laid back and said heres my guard try and pass it. That is Not offensive. Bradley was connected in his guard. Why does Levi get to dictate how the match is played by simply sitting down? Being offensive would have been wrestling up when Kade took a step back. Why is that OK for Levi to not have to wrestle up but Kade is required to step inside? I don't get why you think Kade is required to step inside to the guard. The concept of training is not fighting , you train to learn the craft or I’d like to think so I don’t get the mentality of wanting to destroy the people helping you get better or vice versa obviously we encounter these types of people but personally it is not the way to learn a skill .
