      Work on a basic stay command and everytime you place a foot tell her to stay. Also start just picking up and placing the feet super fast (even not in the right place) so she learns to stay when you place feet. Slowly work up to the right placement and holding for longer periods of time.

    Heyy I have an 11 week old puppy, she’s only 3lbs - her ears are standing up quite a bit, one almost completely erect at time (like a corgi). Is she too little for this process? I just want her ears to be more floppy.

    • @sandollaraussies

      No, she’s not too small although if they are standing straight up those are prick ears which cannot be fixed unfortunately.

    Just a bonus tidbit if you are at a BREED SPECIALTY show so for instance the bull terrier Dallas TX specialty IF There are at least double the maximum amount of class dogs/bitches entered for a 5 point major (so in bull terrier a 5 PT major is 7 dogs/bitches in TX so there would need to be at least 14 class dogs entered) a 3 point major can be awarded for reserve winners IF the club chooses to do so. Pretty cool and a perk for going to specialties and not just staying local for all breed shows.

    I taped my Aussies ears when he was younger( he is now 8 months old) but every time I grab his ears or cut some hair he twitches his ear. Do you have any tips? And do you have any tips for dogs with uneven ears(one of his ears is a button ear and the other is more of a rose ear)? I am still hoping to show him in conformation but we will see.

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He probably just doesn’t like it or it tickles. Repetition should help him get more used to it. You can keep trying with the tape or this moleskin method until 1 years old for his rose ear. For show weekends, you can try taping the night before and taking it off right before ring time. Sometimes they will hold long enough for the ring

    Do you ever cut her hair very short. My aussie has a lot of hair and he gets over heated in the summer.

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, cutting the hair short won’t really help with heat. The best thing to do is the remove as much of the undercoat as you can with a high velocity dryer and brushing. That way the skin can breathe easier but is still protected from the sun.

    • @hamsonthehill
      @hamsonthehill 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It was recommended to me by vets on TH-cam to breed young and every heat, then stop. Skip first heat, then breed every heat after that for a reasonable amount of litters. This is actually the healthiest for your bitch and her puppies. Just pointing this out as she said she only breeds every two years. The reason has to do with the way their heat cycles work, and how their uterus does not work like a humans.

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My dogs are first and foremost our family companions and not here to pump out litters every 6 months. Also, I’m not breeding the same dog every time. OFA’s cannot be done until 2 years old which is older than one heat cycle so it sounds like your TH-cam vets don’t know about appropriate testing either. 🙄

    • @justinthomas3253
      @justinthomas3253 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @sandollaraussies I was just posting this as a general rule of thumb. It was pitched as being the healthiest way to breed dogs to me. Dogs don't slough the lining of the uterus during heat. The more heats before breeding the tougher the uterus lining and less likely she is to have successful litters. Same reason to breed regularly if I remember correctly. Breed while young, then let moma retire.

    We’ve done one round which last 2-3 weeks, worked great! They fell out naturally (and unfortunately brought most of the fur with it)… we are now having trouble gluing them back on the naked skin lol is there something we’re doing wrong or will it only adhere to the fur?

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It should be adhering to the skin although it does stick to the hair way better. Try letting the glue dry a little longer before applying so it’s less runny. Or make the piece bigger to try to stick to any of the hair on the edges remaining

    couple questions. we just got a new pup. one ear just started to stick up kind of overnight. when i hold it down it stays back down for a short period and then rises back up. his ears are super fluffy on the leather. would i shave this part of the ear or just put the glue and the mole skin over it. also, for the glue, is this something that eventually falls of the dog or do you need to take it off. if you need to take it off, how often should we being doing this and how would i do this (soap and water or do you have another suggestion)? THANK YOU in advanced!!!!

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Leave the hair because the glue actually sticks better to that. Normally they fall out on their own but if it’s still in there at a month, remove it with alcohol or adhesive remover. Soap and water normally works well too since they tend to fall out after a bath.

    What do use to wash the blankets and if you use washable puppy pads after the puppies are born. I have been following the instructions on the pads and it just isn't getting them clean. Our dam has an urge to dig and the disposable pads don't work for her. We have to be careful with blankets too because she digs around and puppies end up under the blanket. Thankfully I can be here with her almost all the time and I have a camera to keep an eye on them while I am gone. I don't leave long and it's usually between feedings so it's no likely she gets back in the box. Thanks for the video! Everyone should def follow all your tips!

    • @sandollaraussies
      @sandollaraussies 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The disposable pads are only used during whelping itself. I don’t used them again until later in the weaning pen. I wash the blankets like regular laundry using soap pods. And I don’t leave the blankets loose in there, I stretch them out so the sides are held down under the box and the puppies cant get under them.
