How to Setup an Adult Snake Enclosure - Cookies Critters - 2021
In todays tutorial, we are demonstrating how to setup a enclosure for an Adult Carpet Python. In particular Morelia Spilota Variegata (Darwin Carpet python or Top End python).
Australian Carpet Pythons are generally semi-arboreal and need more floor space rather than enclosure height. As a general rule, Adult carpet pythons will grow between 6-8 foot long. We recommend that you use a 120x60x60cm (4'x2'x2') enclosure. Enclosures taller than 120cm (4') tall, are hard to heat and typically not suitable.
Ensure that and heat lights are covered with mesh cages so that the snake doesn't get burnt if it coils around the globe. We always recommend that any heat source should be regulated by a thermostat.
Ideal substrates for carpet pythons are as follows:
* Coarse Pine bark,
* Eucalyptus Mulch,
* Recycled paper Kitty Litter,
* Chipsi,
* Aspen bedding,
* Critter Crumble.
All snakes need a hide at least on the hot side and if you have the space, place a hide on the cool side too.
When using natural logs and branches, ensure that you thoroughly wash them to remove any mites, ants, spiders and ticks. This can be achieved by treating with boiling water and when dried, spray with MacMite.

    I know this video is 3 yrs old but i only just found you. I do love that these videos are here, it helps to learn so much more about my bearded dragon and my one HATES his pore touched. I will always, always soak him before i even touch them, but he will go black, he will huff and puff and i usually have to give him cuddles but i got into the habbit of saying to him 'one two squeeze' and he knows then i give him a few moments. I hate doing it, but i know he cant gwt it all out regardless of the wood and rocks in his viv.

  • @Gothicexplorer

    L1 and L2 are for lights and can be used ro set two difrent times . If you hold down the up button it will show you the highest temp it can go to and you can lower it, same with the down arrow showing the lowaest it can go to. To set the times for the heating to change from day to night you do the last bit in the video .

    My beardie is a ESA, I tend to get nervous in car rides (no idea why) so I’ll typically just have him chilling on my lap. He isn’t under the seatbelt, if he starts to get a bit restless (he will if the rides over an hour) I do have a tub for him. He wears a harness, he has a blanket underneath him, windows are never down, and unless it’s SUPER hot in the car my parents won’t turn on the air conditioner. Reggie is allowed to rest on my arm while he looks out the window as well, I make this as safe for the both of us as I possibly can. He’s 100% trained, desensitized, and an approved ESA, so he doesn’t cause trouble. Is that ok to have him out of a container while in the car? He goes ALMOST everywhere with me. I try to keep him out of downtown, places that are dangerous, ect!

    I just came across this video , I’m not sure if information in techniques and causes have changed since then . Since day one I’ve been handling her , I’ve had her for two weeks now .her size is as if she’s a few weeks to a month old . She ate the first day I brought her home so I figure we passed the get to know stage she’ll eat once in a blue and I’ve been stressing . So I water her so she drinks water , she has a bowl on the cook side of her tank but she only chills around it . I don’t want to stress her but I don’t want her to feel like shes being ignored . There’s no way for me to really tell if she’s hungry unless I try to feed her and this is daily . She really small and I just don’t want to fuck up and god forbid she gains health issues or passes from not eating . Animals will do that to you .

      I feed her Roman lettuce , wax and meal worms . Ill put water in the greens or worms just to trigger her appetite but it don’t always work . She ate about 5 times since I got her . I try to feed her every day, day and night but She mainly drinks water when I place droplets on her (spray bottle) . I want to try peppers next since they’re rich in color and taste .. but again this is the “ I want her to eat because I’m worried “ issue , I know to give her space which I do , she just stares at me and angels her head at every sound she hears even me talk or talking to her . She closes her eyes when I stroke her , even when she’s just laying on me all flat 🥹 … but I’ve read it means she’s scared and I’ve read it means she’s comfortable… I just don’t know . I thought I did all the research I could before getting her , even made sure her inclosure was set up hot and ready for her first day . I don’t know if she’s happy or stressed but I don’t want her to feel disconnected due to lack of socializing

    Pine and Eucalyptus both have oils that can be harmful to lizards/reptiles... and I wouldn't think would be a part of the natural habitat for the Blue Tongue skink. Eastern Blue Tongues live on soil. with ground cover such as grasses and leaf litter. It's probably better to use leaf litter, etc without dust and oils and a better substrate they can burrow into.
