    I found this video looking for such home remedies & just wanted to say thank you so much. After a heating issue, I used a pipet with light dosing of listerine on my Tanzanian forest cobra, my female gaboon, absolutely fantastic!! a few treatments & good as New!! 🤗

    I have a ball Python that I rescued and she has been doing incredible since I adopted her. Typically her behavior is just liking to chill out under her hide on the warm side. She’s pretty shy like that but isn’t aggressive at all.
    But in the last couple of days she has been basking outside of her hide all day and then goes back into her hide at night. A couple times while watching her I’ve noticed she will flick her tongue out some while she’s resting and looking around but then will open her mouth and leave it open for a little bit, close it, then do the tongue flicking again.
    I can’t hear her breathing at all, she doesn’t seem to b salivating excessively, no bubbles at the corner of her mouth, and she just ate maybe 4 days ago but was refusing to eat for a few weeks prior to that.
    I can’t tell if she has a respiratory infection (or the start of one) or maybe if it’s her opening her mouth to cool down because she’s been under the heat lamp a lot more lately. She doesn’t appear to do the mouth opening thing when she’s in her hide.
    I had a bearded dragon previously and I know when they get to warm they open their mouth to let out some of the excess heat. So pythons do that as well? I would appreciate some advice mainly because an exotic vet is extremely difficult to get an appointment at in my state and since they aren’t in abundance here, they are also very very expensive.

      I'm actually having the same issue... if you find out what's up could you tell me?

    • @Jess-vk6mp
      @Jess-vk6mp 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@fluffydream1127 I posted that before her unusual behavior became worse. About a week after that comment she would sit outside of her hide with her neck stretched out and would just keep her mouth slightly open and then would take huge deep breaths. And was salivating a lot more. Those are all symptoms of a respiratory infection. It was brought on because the humidity in her enclosure was too low and I realized I wasn’t doing enough to keep it high enough. If your snake is showing any of those symptoms in my original comment or starting to show more symptoms like what I listed in this comment, then I would highly recommend taking yours to a exotic vet. My snakes vet had her on a couple weeks of antibiotics that I had to administer with a needle under her skin in the muscle every other day until it cleared up. It was no fun for my snake or myself but it was necessary. Reptiles can die quickly from untreated respiratory infections so the sooner you get yours in the better. Since I got mine treated quickly before it got really bad she bounced back and is good as new now. If you hear crackling or a popping sound when yours is breathing that’s also a bad sign it’s an infection. Good luck I hope your snake will be ok.

    I've got a boa that is prone to RI, and if he was as bad as the carpet python in this video I would be straight down to the vets for anti-biotics. If the snake is gaping, or bubbles from the nostrils, or dribbling from the mouth, coupled with the gurgling sound like the snake here, IMO it's passed the home remedy stage. Nebulising with a 1:250 solution of F10 will help, but won't cure a snake with an RI this far advanced. The colouration around the throat and snorkel is an indication this RI has well and truly gotten a hold. Ceftaziidime inter muscular Injections works well for snakes

    Salt don't evaporate, so a saline solution is useless since just the water will go into the air and the salt stays in the container. Most the time just building up on the heating element in the humidifier.

    • @CookiesCritters

      Saline solution is used to help dilute medications to be nebulized. The positively charged sodium chloride ions slow the evaporation of H20 which will usually steam off before the medication leaving the medication in the reservoir while the majority of the carrier solutions evaporates.

    Hi we just got a Blood Corn Snake today and she was sitting with her mouth open a few times but not gaping wide. I don’t know if this is normal because she’s trying to acclimate herself to her new surroundings or if she’s sick! There is no wheezing, bubbling or anything else so I’m not sure because I’ve never seen a snake do this before…. But then again I’ve never stared at a snake for and extended period of time. When her mouth was open it’s just pink inside. I don’t know is to count respirations in a snake either but she doesn’t seem to be in any distress so I’m not sure if she has an URI or not. Should I just treat her prophylactics or just leave her be until she gets use to her new enclosure.
    Update: so she hasn’t done the whole mouth thing anymore and seems to be fine. She was fed Tuesday and pooped sometime last night after I got tired of staring at her for over an hour lolz 😂. I’m keeping this vid for reference just in case. Thanks for posting this

She’s flicking her tongue and acting normally and no physical symptoms other than the coughing. The male does it too but never has spit up anything and I think it’s because I’ve walked in the room while he was drinking and hides in his water dish with his head under water for a long time. The fact you call it a red tip boa morph tells me you don't really know what exact snake you have. Because of this I doubt (sorry) your husbandry is on point. Make sure your temps are in order. Baby boas can have trouble eating when they are too cold or when they are stressed out. You also should check for mites. Provide your boa with a big water bowl. If he/she soaks all day, look at the bottom of the water bowl. You might find mites. Nonetheless I don't think your boa has an URI. First make sure the temps and humidity is on point, he/she has enough hides and that he/she has no mites.

      Thanks for your comment, she is about a foot longer and completely better. The vet said she had an RI and treated her for it but you are completely right about getting the habitat correct I am sure that was an issue as well.
      And I suggest to anyone who is looking to get a Boa to do all the research on them well before taking on the task of caring for one.
      🍻 cheers and Happy New Year.
