The Junkyard Tractor (Part 1) - Bringing A 1951 Farmall M Back To Life
If you know me, you know I love old Farmall tractors and the M is king! Follow along as I go through this 1951 Farmall M (that I found in the junkyard) and get it back into working condition.
Due to the need for further repair, parts and machining, this first video covers a basic overview of the tractor, a first start (in its junkyard condition), the parts that will be going into it, the challenges involved in finding a crack-free cylinder head and a brief walk-around of the tractor.
Here's an honest question for all my subscribers: Normally I set up my videos to release as "premieres". I was mistaken in thinking this was the only way to schedule releases- FYI all my new videos now release at 6:30pm CST EVERY THURSDAY. Some folks have commented that setting up the videos as a premiere will send you, as subscribers, annoying alerts and notifications? Please let me know if this is the case, I was completely unaware of this end of it. I am under the impression that a "premiere" boosts standing in TH-cam's algorithm and so I've been doing that to help my videos get as much traction as possible, since it's easy to get lost in the shuffle. Please let me know your experiences with this, either as video creators or viewers.

    Just a short thank you for the tractor video. First tractor my Dad bought after WWII was an M. I remember riding with him on his lap. I was between his arms and the steering wheel. He didn't have a pickup, so he'd use the tractor to drive around the farm doing chores. He'd put a canvas heat houser on in winter. It was pretty toasty once the tractor warmed up. Good memories! And out of all the pictures I took as a kid, and there were hundreds, I don't have 1 of that tractor. • @BareKnuckleBinder
      @BareKnuckleBinder 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@ruhtra-k there’s no rubber, but it’s common to put wood strips in there to prevent rubbing and allow some shifting. That why it’s so common to use u-bolts to clamp a flatbed on: it prevents frame cracking and stress by allowing the bed to shift slightly under pressure, more than bolts will allow.

    • @BareKnuckleBinder
      @BareKnuckleBinder 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When I was a kid all the old farmers used motor oil to treat the base of wooden corner posts on the fence line and on any wooden uprights for sheds that went in the ground. Turns out it works great for trailer decking and flatbeds. With heavier oils you’d want to dilute it diesel or turpentine, but my wife and my mom both drive Subarus that use 0w20. It’s thin enough that those super dry oak boards soaked it up almost as fast as I could brush it on. I probably ended up putting on 7 coats!
