My favs were the naturally lit images. I often think flash is just too harsh and the direct comparisons definitely confirm although there were a few shots where the flash lit images were better. In that case it's not 100% either way but I just prefer using natural light or filling in with small LEDs with adjustable bulb temperatures.

Have you ever used and had success with the Olympus STF-8? I am thinking of buying that flash for macro photos.

At first i thought your mystery insect was a female Glow-worm, but on closer inspection I think it's a Ground Beetle larva, both readily feed on snails.

With TC you always lose quality, they magnify the aberrations of the master lens (TC1.4 magnifies the aberrations 2 times; the 2x magnifies them 4 times. Macro + tc 2x is not worth it) On the other hand, achromatic close up lenses (like Raynox, Canon 500D, nikon 5T and6T, etc) reduce your effective focal length, therefore they don't multiply the aberrations of the main lens, the amount of final aberrations only depend on the quality of the close up lens itself. In addition, as it shortens the effective focal length of your lens, you don't lose light.

The reason your camera was showing a -1.7 exposure is because the majority of what’s in the frame is black but it tries to make everything 18% grey so it thinks you need a higher exposure than you do.

Jesus I would love someone doing a little animation of a little caracter going to sit leaning on that mushroom to read a book, it looks so much like the esthetic of a ghibli movie

One question Jamie, I know 60 mm Olympus breathes a lot, at least to the point that creating a stack is impossible, the same Sony 90 mm macro. But does 90 mm OM system breathes too? Be serious. It's a lot of money, and it's hardly to try it out, as I can't rent it in my country.

Welcome to the fascinating world of Fungi Jamie. Sunlight is your worst enemy and flash not far behind especially with smaller fungi. A small reflector is ideal and subtle use of low powered led also. A little gardening is good and you can always reposition twigs and small branches to achieve a better background. Enjoy

Wow with one video you made me regret not carrying on when I did it we didn’t have the equipment to do macro photography and I couldn’t afford the equipment myself so kinda got put off as I don’t enjoy other styles of photography nearly as much but I think I wanna start again after watching this

I do not photograph mushrooms normally. Tried some natural light stuff here and there, but do not have the patience for it. But that artificial light really elevates it and has me tempted to try it again! Lovely images and video!
