Definitely natural light. It’s what I use predominantly when shooting macro in the field. Occasionally I might add a bit of LED fill light if it’s particularly dark or too many shadows. It may be stating the obvious, but if you removed the flash and diffuser you’d get a lot more ambient light on your subject.
My favs were the naturally lit images. I often think flash is just too harsh and the direct comparisons definitely confirm although there were a few shots where the flash lit images were better. In that case it's not 100% either way but I just prefer using natural light or filling in with small LEDs with adjustable bulb temperatures.
I think natural light won every time, the flash tended to make things look flat and in 5:05 everything had a green color (maybe the white hood bounced green colors across the whole scene?). I'd be curious to see how off-camera flash would compare, since you'd be able to control the distance & direction of light. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I prefer the natural light images as they all contained more depth of color and contrast. In my opinion the flash images looked just like they were flashed.
Natural light is best for fungi, lichens etc, anything that's not moving, try a reflecter, it may surprise you, a simple thing like cooking foil stuck to a piece of cardboard can make a big difference. 👍
Excellent video jamie,I preferred the natural light in all images except the last as the flash seemed to bring out the colours in the wood better but that is just my opinion,we all know 100 people will see an image 100 different ways..lol keep up the good work and looking forward to your next video.
Nice to meet you. My camera is also an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II camera. I'm trying to get started with macro photography, so thank you very much for all the great information. I will continue to subscribe in the future.
@@JamieSpensley I try it. If I get a chance, I would be curious about flash settings and how to use Photoshop. Personally, I am very interested in mushroom and flower photography.

It depends on the effect you're going for, some I liked with flash and others I'd go for Natural light.
I liked the natural light most of the time, but both have their uses!

Thanks, I haven't done much of this in the past so I'll probably do some experiments with different lighting and stuff
Interesting experiment. It looks like both are good options under the right circumstances.
Wait, hiur camera has auto focus stacking?

Thank you! I feel like the flash is often better for higher magnification texture shots
Nice , prefer the Flash. But tour video mate needs formation 😅
Nice
Save up for the Accratech Ultimate Ball Head. You'll thank me later. Keep up the good work ! 😃

Half looked better with flash, half looked better with natural light
No question natural light images were better and have the added benefit of being more authentic.
