Learn about making money online, Linux, programming with free pascal, C++, python, tutorials etc. Hone your internet marketing skills in affiliate marketing, Amazon, eBay, drop-shipping, info product creation, eCommerce.
Instead of flying quickly through things, I like to slow down a bit, take you by the hand and show you step-by-step.
Why do the forum rats always complain that being spoon fed info is a no-no, or a bad thing anyway? Hint - they don't really know what they're doing, so they CAN'T walk you through anything, thus the phony arrogance. I've been around the internet business block a few times.
If you want to learn more about how to make money online, how to do programming and build apps, or discover more about Linux - Just feel free to ask me anytime in the comments or discussion what you would like to see and I will be happy to respond. And, if possible, I'll even post a step-by-step video in response to your request.
My goal, at least 1-2 posts per week.

LinuxMint LMDE Installing the DK Window Manager
มุมมอง 400หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video we install DK window manager and Polybar to create a desktop on Linux Mint LMDE. HOWEVER, LMDE is based on Debian Bookworm, which only supports the older version of Polybar, version 3.6.3. To get the most from Polybar, I recommend using good ol' regular Linux Mint based on Ubuntu, Ubuntu itself, or if you prefer Debian, then Debian Testing, or Sid, or a Debian based distro like Sp...

18:20 - I was crashing as well. Lol. I just opted for the 24.04 LTS.
Thanks for this look into 24.10 Jack. Appreciate it.
Excellent work Jack! You must be a hardcore Linux aficionado! I was going to use a Windows utility called Easy UEFI but my free trial expired. I ended up with two Ubuntu entries in my Grub after I upgraded my NVME drive and had to re-add Grub to get into Linux. I was able to use this awesome utility to safely remove the extra entry. I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous rebooting. Whew!
*Awesome video coverage of this tool! The best ive seen so far! Thanks!*
*Is this TyphoonCode better than Lazarus or have you since switched back to Lazarus?*
Hi Aaron, I'm currently using Lazarus (installed via FpcUpDeluxe). Between CodeTyphon & Lazarus it's really a toss-up for me. After reinstalling Linux one day, I just added in Lazarus simply because it seems a little lighter overall, and I don't need all the extra widgets available in CodeTyphon. With that said, I haven't looked at it in quite awhile. I may need to take another look. 👍
Great review! Would be fun to see your daily driver and how you have configured your personal environment.
Great video! Mint is my favorite, I might try that out
The Captain Kangaroo of Linux video creators! A favorite.
I clicked the thumbs up button 10,000 times. If you wake up with a luxurious head of hair be sure to thank me and give my comment a thumbs up. As always I enjoyed your review video. Nice to see some honesty by showing the crashes.
Wahooo! I can feel that mane sprouting already.
Hi Jack. I installed this in GNOME Boxes with CachyOS without any problems, it did give me the login screen twice though. In your video you installed neofetch. Isn't fastfetch a better deal since neofetch is no longer supported? Fastfetch is the new neofetch now.
Hey Jack, it's a great video. Always enjoy watching them. They have a good twist to them. And the in-depth review and demo is always great to see. Most people are trying to make videos shorter and strip out a lot of the content. So appreciate it.
Thanks for the feedback Manny. That's a reassuring validation that I haven't gotten too long winded in my videos. Sometimes I've wondered, LoL.
are the hiccups due to the wayland implementation?
Even though I'm a big KDE fan this is yet another great Linux video.
Thanks Esra! And I promise to give some KDE love soon, it's been awhile! 👍
Will it, like Windows or Arch, suddenly break after updates? I don't want to troubleshoot all day. The millennials and GenZ in my corporate forest are Jurassic at computers. #boomersknowstuff
My NVIDIA card doesn't agree with this distro minus running Cinnamon I have no issues and it's all automatic they need to fix Dragonized if you want a Windows 10 replacement do check out how much more modern the Garuda Cinnamon desktop is you don't HAVE to buy a new computer and Microsoft is baiting people again. At this point Windows 7 is the last Windows I will ever support Windows 10 is acceptable but I might use Linux for Steam games in the future Garuda Linux has got to be the best distro in the entire Linux industry which might give Windows a run for their money with their futuristic of Cyberpunk blend and modern Linux computing this distro needs more praise.
wow that mic, rip
CachyOS has turned a ten year old HP touchscreen notebook into a speedy device. Hyprland DE. Zen browser. Nemo. Kitty. It's a pleasant experience. I do run Fedora on two other machines, but this Cachy laptop is really outstanding. Thanks for the video Mr. Jack.
Late to the party but, this has been so very helpful! Thank you!
Tried it with Sparky xfce but had screen resolution problems. When I installed Sparky Min (openbox) DK worked just fine. DK & Debian rolling. Who can ask for more.
Thanks for sharing! Retrying with the MinimalGUI version was a smart move. 👍
Great video. Once again, very informative. I'm going to give this a try on Mint. See how it compares to the Arcolinux version. I've had issues in the past with Sparky on machines with hybrid graphics so that's a no go for me. Thanks again for this one.
You're welcome, and thanks for the info! Mint should work out great for you. Regarding Sparky, just in case you weren't aware, Sparky's rolling testing iso has a newer kernel (and software too). The newer kernel supports more recent hardware than the older kernel found in the stable Sparky iso which is based on bookworm.
@@jackkeifer I'll give Sparky another try after I try DK with Mint. I'm finding DK very comfortable and intuitive as opposed to a desktop enivironment. It's like going back to my '51 Telecaster after playing with a PRS for awhile.
Great info thanks very much:-)
You're most welcome!
One thing I like about flowblade is how fast the scrubbing process is, for cutting down the video. I normally use kdenlive or davinci resolve. but really like trying out other free programs to compare and find what works best for me. thanks for sharing this video.
I like trying out these free editors too. One never knows what cool feature you'll stumble across.
Tumbleweed + XFCE=<3 Been using this combo (it seems like) forever......Love how customizable it is! Definitely stays out of your way, and very stable. Great vid btw....😊

Hello, thanks for your video about Regata OS. ❤
Why does it sound like your voice is doubled? Either that or there is some kind of echo effect going on
Jack hey there something you may really like I use it instead of Firefox and it's faster than Google Chrome, it's based off of Firefox called floorp browser
Peppermint 10 was the best worked on anything can't get the new peppermint (piece of junk) to boot on old stuff
hey jack, thanks for your overview, i really want to set all computers in my organization for this os, feels like windows xp with even less ressources consuptions. there even is the solitaire inside!
Thanks for the helping vidéo 🙏👏 I am just trying i3 with linux mint I like it very minimalistic look I am still looking for some hints if anybody can help : - how to change the keyboard layout - how to see battery level - how to contrôle the brightness of screen - conky on i3 ... In cinnamon all works but with i3 I am still learning
Nala Forks apt in the sense it is a layer over apt. It is not just looks either, apt needs to run one process after another, nala runs in parallel. Might not be a big deal for 1-2 installations, but it is incredibly useful for script installs and major updates.
Well said! 😃
Can you install mate desktop on this????
Put 'exec_always picom' or compton or whatever compositor you're using in your i3 config to get transparency on your rofi.
Thanks Patpopov! That is the solution! In this case: 'exec_always compton' 👍👍
Good little tutorial. I'm interested in dkWM. Any chance of "Installing dkWM on Linux Mint 22 Wilma!" video?
I agree. dk with the stability of mint would be an ideal set up.
Yeah i was not expecting a tutorial, it was nice
Sure, I'm up for that! 👍👍
Just installed Siduction in VM to try it out. Tried lxqt version and it failed 3/4 the way . Tried again with xorg version and it installed but didnt unmount properly at reboot. I forced off and then reloaded ok. Updating took too much time for 2000+ packages. After leaving it alone to update so many , i found it paused for my input. Grub install paused for me to tell it where to install . Several service restart prompts during updating. For any rolling release a year old install iso is too old!! ISO's should be refreshed monthly or at least quarterly. Went through several update upgrade cycles before & after full upgrade.
You keep making me wanna distro hop Jack! I've been enjoying StormOS and CachyOS. Like many others Linux Mint was my first distro back in 2015. I always enjoy your reviews and tutorials. Thanks!
Thanks abaneyone! P.S., it's my duty to disrupt one's Linux lifestyle, LoL!
@@jackkeifer 🤣
Ol boy you're slippin for real some thing you of all people would want! Go check out vanilla os 2 orchid
What's the difference between the LTS and Zen kernels? How does Garuda Linux compare to Fedora and Debian?
at min 3:36 i try that way but doen't work..i click on normal installer and i see that it goes only for 1 second blue, not like in the video that stays blue and you click on apply...if i click on apply it goes out and nothik appens.. calamares doen't work..the other way i doen't know how to install Storm OS with another distro,..to install in dual boot with calamaris is easy..
You don't need to put empty brackets in. Just one of the many nice things about the Pascal/Lazarus/Delphi syntax.
I would not call PopOs a distro for gaming by any stretch of the imagination. The native gaming capabilities software wise, are the same as every other LinuxOS. Zorin even has a different "native" windows App launcher, which makes that alone a better choice. Not to mention every distro can run Lutris. But if we are talking only about Gaming Performance, well. Popos is on its last legs with Windows 11 according to some Benchmarks. Not to mention, Steam OS is running on Arch. This should give many people something to think about.
Really nice video !!
Thanks! 👍
Great video.
thanks jack, love from Türkiye!
It gives me an error: bash: host-spawn: command not found manpath: can't set the locale; make sure $LC_* and $LANG are correct
I dig Jack's reviews. He's truly a Linux OG and really loves the deep dive on things. Well done Jack. I ran DTOS a while back and liked it, I also like DT. He's a philosophical dude and I appreciate his perspective. I just recently rebuilt my Hyprland build which is my own custom build, but I need a break from it and I'm a bit bored with it and don't love it. I'm going to run DTOS again as another fun run. I can get down with Qtile. I do recall truly enjoying how much DT dedicated to dmenu. @DT...I dig your hip hop 90's music channel on the MPV music player built into dmenu. :) @Jack...thanks man, cool review. You always inspire me to stay frosty and engage in a fun project.
Thanks! Appreciate it 😃
