I really love Garuda but I have been having a lot of trouble getting their stuff installed over the last 6 months and Hyprland would not get on my laptop without a bunch of problems. Glad it worked well for you. Maybe I need to give it some time for further development.
Hyprland on Open Suse is my favorite to date. I loaded Open Suse Tumbleweed with minimal desktop. Next, I added minimal KDE Plasma and Codecs via OPI. Then, I added Hyprland. Terrific Linux experience. YAST2 or Zypper from terminal accesses a messload of apps. Theming WOFI and Waybar are fun stuff.
Jack, I am Grandpa Leslie, a Fedora user. Lately, though, Fedora Wayland and my graphics card are at odds. Since Fedora is dropping xorg, I am considering a step away from Fedora. I watch all your presentations, but today's Garuda one, I believe, is the one for me. May I ask, though, where to obtain Garuda via a local mirror, I can usually download an iso file from anywhere, I will download your link. Thank you for providing the link. Please, what was the Linux filename for the ISO. I am keen to try it out as a long term desktop system. You deserve 5 stars for this presentation. May I ask a question about your preparation. Was it around one week's time of testing and script preparation.

Regarding prep, I tested the Garuda spin for a couple days, but previously daily drove Hyprland with Arch for about 2 months. For the script, well I hope you don't think less of me LoL, but I never do scripts. I just wing it every time. I feel that I can be more "myself" when I simply turn on the camera and start speaking. Sometimes however I'll record the video part first and then narrate separately the 2nd time round but it's still done spontaneously without a script. By doing the video part first, it makes it easier when something goes wrong like recording a complete video just to find out your mic was turned off, LoL. Of course then there's editing and creating the thumbnail. An entire day needs to be set aside to get it all that done. :)

I have a secondary rig with an old 2nd gen I7 and GT 1030 and I tried to install Garuda Hyprland on it like a month ago and it wouldn't even boot, just takes me back to grub. Then I tried Garuda Sway, it installed, booted up but it was really slow on a 4K display. Now, I'm on vanilla Arch with Hyprland and it works perfectly. I love the customization options and it's syntax is pretty easy to understand (I'm far from an expert). Unfortunately, my main all AMD rig has to stay on Windows due to my Adobe subscription.
@@jackkeifer Sure, there are some bugs in Wayland, especially on nVidia, but those are so minor that I don't even count them as bugs, they are either easily fixable or so small I don't mind. But, that is depending on your hardware config, some combinations work flawlessly, others won't even boot. Of course, that's my experience, other's mileage may vary.
Spot on. The boot issue seems like a common thing since reading yours & other's comments. I had a similar thing with a Debian based distro last year & it turned out to be related to btrfs going read-only by the installer. I had to boot back into the usb stick & run "sudo btrfs check --clear-space-cache v2 /dev/sda2" to fix it. lsblk gave me the version (v2). However, I just tried it on a laptop and experienced a boot issue just like you described. I had a single partition. After adding a 100 mb partition (you only need 8mb) and setting a boot flag on it. I reinstalled again & it worked! I realize that I may have just gotten lucky, but I thought I'd share that anyway. 👍
I feel like the default Garuda waybar is kinda cluttered. But I like some of the widgets they include by default. The rofi list is very Android, but I can't say I don't like it. The cheat sheet is definitely going to be handy for first time hyprland users. All in all nice rundown of the spin. I'm on CachyOS atm and started on KDE, but swapped over after someone on Discord mentioned the DE. Now all my systems are running hyprland and I cannot go back to a floating wm. I am using Intel Xe graphics on the desktop & an Arc A770 16GB for my gaming rig. Rock solid on hyprland, loving the experience.

You're welcome Jeff! ☺ I have found that too, where some distros don't like certain hardware combos.
Same thing, Garuda Hyprland won't even boot on my rig, while vanilla Arch with Hyprland on top works flawlessly.
Oh also Garuda just updated their isos at the end of October so maybe try again if you haven’t in the last month.

Hi Mark, I went the same route after Arco on Hyprland. OpenSuse was my best experience with Hyprland. Terrific is the perfect word for it!

Have not seen many distros with it but interesting to see I would say hyprland is the hardest to get working
out of the box specially with nvidia.

I ran Hyprland on Arch too & also had a flawless experience (except for minor Wayland issues when creating content)
