I think Concord's visual style is actually pretty interesting, the aesthetic it has is solid, the problem is EVERYTHING else, the slow gameplay, the price point, the overt 'politics', and of course the optics. The character designs have a LOT of problems but that core aesthetic language is solid.

It would be nice if these companies would stop putting all their chips on red and distribute it around to smaller teams.

Four... Hundred... MILLION?! For Gods sake! That's so much money. So much money that coulda gone to virtually anything else. Indie games, nature conservation, social programs, a really nice meal, decent employee pay! What a fething waste...

It's so bizarre to see an echo chamber so resilient and deep seated it has infected an entire game studio full of pros into committing the most fundamental mistakes in design. Stuff you learn about in your first classes in any basic design course..!

I think the best take on character design is simple is better. Most of the time. Like their wall-e trash robot looks like a trash robot. They nailed that one. Dude literally has a vacuum too. It’s just so weird they can have a handful of good ideas and commit to none, instead working on lame imitation. Like the comp mode should’ve been the main game but they doubled down on tdm? It wasn’t call of duty, it wasn’t overwatch. It committed to neither and failed in both aspects. Sorry idk if Neil Drunkenman is a good example of a programmer become big boss. My last of us 2 hate is too strong.

Meanwhile we have a developer like Gunfire games who made an absolutely AAA quality game with tons of replayability and million ways to play it and has also released two equally amazing expansions to the game with another one coming out in 2 days. I of course I'm talking about Remnant 2. Probably my favorite game to come out last year and I think it's absolutely criminal that the game is so underrated ❤❤❤

I genuinely cannot fathom losing 400 million dallors.....ON A CRAPPY VIDEO GAME!!!!!. like.....they didn't invest $400,000,000 on something that could change the world or something truly important like disease research or maybe something that would aid impoverished countries.....no no no......it was a fuckin video game. It's unbelievable.

So, aside from the shock inspired disbelief of the $400m pricetag, i did want to challenge this "8 years in development" everyone keeps referencing, since thats longer than firewalk has even existed!? (They formed in 2018) otherwise, solid,valid points all around, lets hope the industry takes a lesson here, instead of the usual doubling down.

Twenty bucks said they knew Concord was gonna fail so they inflated it with stuff from other places that they wanted to get rid off so they can make it a write off

I do wonder why so many games that are accused of being "woke" have failed like this. Perhaps there's this inherent association people make between perceived overtly progressive ideas and the corruption of the creative process. It does look like that was the case with this game again. Particularly with the character designs and their disregard for all criticism during the beta. That second one is particularly common with the failing crowd.

Fun fact: a lot of the ideologues working on Concord are politically opposed to the reasonable person standard that the entire legal system is based on. Reasonable minds can’t come together if they aren’t properly primed to work with one another. They were radicalized.

Calling this game “The Next Star Wars” reminds me of the guy that did Brought wanted this to be his Star Wars (but it wasn’t and he was also a controversial man himself) and how Gray Hadock wanted his online show only shown publicly from Rooster Teeth Poorly Planned Out Streaming Service (before it died) Gen:Lock to be in the academy awards for best acting, music and whatever else was there. Did I mention that it stars Michale Jorden, David Tenet and a few other guest stars as the main cast? Cause it did and flopped. (Also he too was a controversial man)

Serious question: How on earth did they even spend this much money??? Even if they would pay 100 people a wage of 10k a month for 8 years it only adds up to about 10M$. Seriously where did the money go???

I think Sony is now pushing expenses from other projects onto Concord. Since Concord is already a massive failure , by pushing expenses from other projects onto it they can make those other project look more "profitable" than they really are and turn Concord into an even bigger tax write-off. So I suspect the "Cost" of developing Concord will keep magically going up.

Someone needs to investigate this. There is no way firewalk blew 50 million dollars a year on mediocrity, this looks more and more like money laundering. They have 169 employees, that’s close to 3 hundred thousand per employee per year for 8 years.

I think it's just human nature for so many consumers to be extremely stupid, after all why waste money on consoles when you can just build a personal computer on a decent budget plus with emulators you can play all sorts of classic games from PlayStations 1 and 2 and beyond.

This looks like a game that investors wanted like it had all the things they wanted. It was so bland because it had to be appealed to everyone. I think people saw what happened in 2020 with games are like oh we can make some real money. The investor said look at this game. It’s everything we want.
