Book: Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman Read from 6/16/24 - 7/22/24 This video was originally 60 min long, I had to cut down every clip of me saying “this is good as fuck,” because there were a lot of them hahaha. There was a whole chunk of me going into Vasily Grossman as a person, writer, veteran, etc., but it was a bit too much for this video. Members, if you want it I will upload 🤔

Loved all your videos and content and already subscribed to your channel. Much Love ❤❤ from India 🇮🇳🇮🇳 GOD Bless You 🙏🙏 Cheers 👍👍
Glamorama is my alm time favorite. There is such a bibe to it and a feeling, i first went through it in five days on a camping trip and i loved it. The description is godly and adding a “real” plot to his book is a nice addition
one day will meet and talk about Tolstoy , camus and so on .
what if u open a cabinet and it has 30 copies of catcher and the rye and some handcuffs. would you run
🏃♂️
I recommend you to read biography book about Leo Tolstoy by Andrey Zorin. It is translated to English I guess
That shirt a Mitski reference??? 👀

Really dug the video. Had a hard time getting through Lunar Park for some reason though. It felt different than all his other books-more sophisticated. And it’s him stepping away from youth culture which is something he does so well. The Informers has always been a personal favorite of mine because it’s Ellis’ version of a soap opera, or at least that’s how it feels to me. And you have this large cast of characters who are indistinguishable from one another, much like a soap opera, and everything’s melodramatic. My personal rankings would be: 1. The Shards, 2. The Informers, 3. Less Than Zero, 4. The Rules Of Attraction, 5. American Psycho, 6. Glamorama, 7. Imperial Bedrooms, 8. Lunar Park , 9. White
Wow inverted list but I still love the ranking bc all of these books are so great. I’m itching for my annual rereads

I would recommend facing those thoughts you push away under the impression that they are Ivan’s struggle and not your own. You might be surprised at what you learn about yourself and not so much Ivan.
7:40 did you call it a cunty ass belt? 🤣
My first Waugh! We read it in an undergrad course, and I could not believe how much I enjoyed it! Time to read some Dickens... 😢
so annoying when people get all bent out of shape or concern trolly about someone else's choice of or opinions about books, music etc. great video!
loved 2666 read it in october everyday on my way to class. That chapter 4 ending of 2666, the contrast of valuing life between a certain character and the murders is so striking. 2666 really is a journey to hell!
I read Lunar Park last month per your recommendation and honestly it was so good. I’m honestly still thinking about it. The audiobook was also good! Idk what to read next of his!
Amazing!! I’d either do LTZ and go chronologically or the shards maybe
Glamorama for me its my all time favorite book
Love what you said about Stoner! Thanks:)
Hii ! i think that if youre interested in different ideaolgies and ways of life I would recommend learning about islam! Particularly the channel "the muslim lantern". Hope you have a good day ❤
And then Bakunin needed a disguise to get by the authorities - and dressed up as a priest LOL 😆😸 It's in his biography. Anarchism posited independent self-supporting communities connected by loose networks of decreased government power. It sounds great compared to communism. Unfortunately it has never been properly practiced long enough to see if it would work. What HAS worked is the 70,000 member voluntary workers' cooperative Mondragon community in Spain, founded by a Catholic priest (😺😀) some 70 years ago and a proven success.
Need to read that
Have you heard about Memoirs of a Revolutionary by Victor Serge? I think you might like the book!
No! But now I have and I’m interested, thank you :)
Seriously, why is no one discussing 'Hidden Signs of the Universe by Olivia Cooper'? This forbidden book is a goldmine of knowledge that can sincerely change your life

yay ur back:)
We have the same name, similar cultural background, and similar book taste :) I read Stoner a while back and agree - it was truly beautiful in the simplicity of the story it told and I feel like the misery in the between heightened that. While I didn't love it I might have to re-read it soon.
Lovee
Can you splitscreen your videos and have subway surfers playing in one half so i can lock in and watch the whole video
new post yayy🎉
oh she is back!!! but oh nooo!!! not the dislike for Stoner!!! 😭😭😭 i think the slow moments in the middle speak to the mundanity of life, the waiting , the anticipating for something greater, something richer, when in the end, there's this simplicity of wanting simple. are there books that focus on the explosive expresiveness of mundanity that you have enjoyed? also love when a book like Mating is able to pinpoint and flesh out all the ways we are not able to express in our own livelihoods! can't wait to get to it!
I think I would’ve loved stoner pre-move but now that life is so great and I’ve escaped small town misery I was like oh hell no 😭 amazing question too… I seriously think every murakami book I’ve read, despite not loving any of them (save 1Q84), has had my absolute favorite expressions of the mundane. Give me cigarettes, work, misery, bowl of noodles, eating at the table with a record on, staring into space, etc. I love it every time. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Mating too!!! Sending u a big hug 🫂
15:40 speak 🙌
I like the other two books by Williams. Bolaño is boring as hell for me, why is he so popular?!?! I think men have simpler desires and that's why we're easier to write, even for a female author. As long as your believes don't end up in some fundamentalist extreme it's fine. The most brilliant man I've ever known was a devout catholic and a biologist studying bees, so I guess he was a complete person. Anyway, good luck with finding Isaac.
🙏
Love the new set up, this is so chill. Love seeing my boy Bolano make his Bookpogo debut. Stoner is an interesting one, a friend of mine who's also mutuals with you on GR nailed the feelings of bewilderment about it being treated as the best thing ever.
So excited to talk bolaño with you when I get through this beast
Hi Valentina, glad you are doing well in your studies and having fun in Europe. Anyways, I too have been wanted to read Bely's Petersburg. What translation do you have? Look forward to hearing about your recent reads.
Sarah! Thank you so much :)) I have the John Cournos trans 🙈
I hear you Valentina. "New Atheism" has kinda gone outta style, lost its macho mojo and over the years has become riddled with intolerance and bigotry. Be your own thing struggling to make sense of things. Be like Socrates, questioning everything. Labels often get in the way
With your insight into Russian literature, I’d love to hear what you think of Vladimir Nabokov.
My thoughts: Fucking Genius
@@bookpogo Agreed!!
I feel the same way where I’ve been too busy to read. I’m happy you’re having fun and being social in this new environment tho! I’d be happy to watch random vlogs of yours in between reading videos if ur interested :)

Sorry you didnt love Stoner as much. Certain passages had me kicking my feet with glee, some had me weeping for pages at a time lol. Great video. I havent been reading as much lately, ive been super busy writing. I have The Adolescent and Secret History sitting on my bedside table waiting for me😅
It was life changing for me 😭
@ if u liked Stoner i would reccomend the author Richard Yates. He wrote so many great novels. They all share a similar meloncholy/existentialism with Stoner
@@drainel9707I’ll check it out ❤️
Hahaha I wish I had loved it more but i definitely see its beauty. We will get through this slump together, and I’m sure those two books will get u right out of it
