My 15 mm Aztec army for l'Art de la Guerre
Although I have been uploading videos of almost all the units I have painted, in this video I make a summary showing the 15 mm Aztec army I have made to play l'Art de la Guerre with 3D printed resin figures from Red Copper Miniatures. The name Aztec is not quite correct; it would be more appropriate to call them Mexicas but I'm afraid it would be confusing.
Just 2 years ago, in June 2022, I got my hands on the STLs I bought in a Kickstarter; I started painting them in January 2023 and finished at the end of November 2023 (with many other projects going on at the same time!) This video is intended to leave the result well documented.
Teri Jose who is a fellow gamer offered to print them with his printer, a lot of work I can't thank enough, I now have my own printer!
At first I feared for the fragility of the resin, but after several games and trips in a box I have had absolutely no problems. Maybe it's because I treat them with exquisite care?
My next army will also be resin. I've already bought the STLs (also on Kickstarter) and I'm anxious for them to arrive and I can get started.

The pleasure has been mine, I fell in love with the figures just by seeing the renders and the expectations were fulfilled and exceeded when I got my hands on the printed figures. Not only for the detail, but for that pathos in the poses that makes the most ordinary slinger have something special. They are also a challenge because of the feather painting, the ornaments, the colors.... It was a lot of fun! Of course you can share the video and whatever you need!

Thank you very much! Actually, I was surprised to realize that it has taken me two years. True, that time is since I received the STLs, not the figures, and I've been doing many other things at the same time, but I think a project should be completed in a shorter period, although in this case it seems to me time well spent. I'm already testing it on the battle table, I hope to be able to make some video very soon.
Aah! Magnificent!! This is the video I've been waiting for (this and all the naval battles of course). I really don't think I've ever seen a wargames army with all of the figures so meticulously painted and displayed. And you're right about the Red Copper Miniatures. They really are more than just another surface to put paint on. Those little slingers are a great example. The man on one foot about to launch may be the best example. Putting these fellows up against Spaniards will certainly be appropriate, but as nice as these came out one has to wonder wat a game between Aztecs and some other of their Central American enemies would look like. Regardless, well done! There's so much to be proud of here.

Are those Langton ships?
They are not Langton, we use a mix of different brands and even handmade. If you go until minute 22:52 you will see the manufacturer and model of each miniature.

Ha i just started penobscot bay with the sails o glory rules...unlike in real life the Americans will have to fight their way out against the wind..though they outnumber with their 7 ships against the 5 heavy British line ships ...their outgunned by 70 cannon.

This must be one of the more complex table top war games I've ever seen 😅 beautiful models, though, and your video has great production value. Thanks for showing it, godspeed and have a lot of fun with your hobby in the future as well!
It is actually a game in which the turn is resolved quickly. The mechanics are simple, and the only thing that needs annotations are the individual rules of each ship, which allow a lot of customization although at the end of the day you always choose a few. From the modifiers in the combats it may seem that there are many, but they are almost always the same and the possible outcomes very few. They are always exciting battles! A return to the sea. Wonderful, just wonderful! Honors to the Venetian Admiral. Sailing between enemy galleys is not for the faint of heart, but may well have dictated the outcome of the battle. These sea games are always a joy to watch!! Do it again. . . , and thanks.

Stunning work and at 15mm they have a lot moe detail that the 28mm Wargames Atlantic miniatures I painted up. Beautiful work!
I didn't know the Atlantic miniatures, but I've looked them up and I have to say that they are also very good and with all the customization variants, as well as with things as curious as the Aztec cavalry! Whenever I've gotten to the end of one of these videos, I'm always glad that you and Red Copper Miniatures found one another. These are superb and this army, when it's done, is going to make a spectacular showing. By the way, any ideas regarding the use of blue die for some of the jaguar warriors? One has to wonder if it had some religious or military significance as it cannot have been an easy thing to do.
I fell in love with these figures just by looking at the renders... I find the poses spectacular, and the "cast" is extraordinary. These people did not do anything that did not have social or religious meaning, it is extraordinary this conjunction of brutality, realism, symbolism and aesthetics of the Mexica civilization, but I do not know why in the codex mendocino appears a jaguar warrior in blue. I do not wish to be the Conquistador meeting up with your Jaquars! I enjoyed your video very much, not only the painting techniques but your color strategy and mixing. These Aztecs have really opened up your color palette. It's great when a casting (or 'print' in this case) inspires my creativity and interest in the period. The jade-work is exquisite. Red Copper really develops a great figure. Congrats on such fine work and video! I cannot wait to see the units on the table. Best wishes!

That is absolutely beautiful, a brilliant build...the painting techniques are very impressive and skill level is masterful. I like the rigging and the entire concept of choosing the period to replicate was very good. The video is perfect, every detail (including the music). Thanks for putting this out there and now I'm hooked on 1/700 scale sailing ships.

@@MinisMyWay Agreed, but way too often folks seem to get locked in to having to buy the "right" figures and using the "right" rules. That said, I don't know what the "right" rules would be for a skirmish-style campaign between Spain and Morocco.

They look terrific, but so exacting. Do you paint all 6 at once? I'd have a problem judging when I achieved the level detail I wanted without going overboard.
I painted all 18 at the same time, but grouped by color. For example, first I did the skin of all of them, then the brown of the suit, then I did the ones with blue plumage, then the ones with red, and so on. I didn't find them especially difficult, on the contrary; they are a type of sculpture that clearly shows you where there are details to be highlighted, and if you don't highlight them especially they are still distinguishable as well. I have no idea as to how one of these guys would have lived his life, but I see him hanging around the house, putting the finishing touches on a new obsidian warclub and listening to 70s recordings of Carlos Santana. Now that I have that out of my system, when is this Aztec warrior nation going to appear on a wargames table. Magnificent painting by the way (just in case I've never mentioned it before.).
I think it is very difficult for us to get an idea of what it was like to live in a society like the Aztecs... and worse their neighbors. Soon I will make a video with a game, I have already played a couple. And regarding the painting, thank you very much, the truth is that the sculpture of the figures help a lot.
@@MinisMyWay I believe you're right about the sculptures. They're wonderful! And while I'm anxious to see what you will do for the Conquistadores in this time period, a smaller battle between the Aztecs and "the neighbors" would be incredibly colorful. . . and violets!
