Welcome to FAIR WEATHER SAILORS
We are an Irish Sailing couple living in the sunny South East and documenting our sailing adventures from this spectacular Island of Ireland. We have been sailing for many years and have now plucked up the courage to set up a channel for our sailing seasons and adventures. We are both happier behind a camera instead of in front of it but we are taking this leap out of our comfort zone and into very unchartered waters.
We hope you will follow us on our adventures as we 'Let our Dreams Set Sail' and see where the wind takes us.
Bye for now

Hi, what did you use to remove the old oil from the engine? I presume there’s no oil drain plug? Thank you
We use a talamex oil extractor pump. The pipe goes down the dip sticks pipe and reach the bottom of the sump. There are other options out there. I believe there is a sump plug but it's very hard to get too.
Thank you 🙏
Do you need to shut off any water valve before changing the impeller? Thank you
How much oil does the engine take? Thank you
Hi @grahameire3845 , it's very little from memory it's between a 1L and 1.5L. We did go over once and the engine started making funny noises. Returned it to the correct level and the noise went away.
When do,you not need to use the bleeder/ raw water lubrication? I am a sailor, barely make 5 knots cruising speed, but my Volvo shaft seal has a water intake for lubrication, where as on my last sailboat it was not used.
When the seal is positioned below water level no extra cooling is required. Never let the seal run dry.
She toched the motor and almost came😂😂😂😂. Hey babe i have a bigger one😂😂
A happy moment 🥳🥳 xx
Happy Summer ahead xxx
Was wondering where she’d ‘go’ 💩
Amazing ❤
Hello from France. The second 3-ways valve(on the right in the video) is mounted in a reverse manner : the flow FF is coming from the top to the sea in the bottom. So that the flow is in the opposite way accroding to the "arrows" visible in the valve. do you think that is problem ? Many thanks. Stefan from France
We've not had an issue so far... But well spotted.
Fantastic jingle
Isn't it fab 😍
Jesus lads, what was in the tea?😂😂😂
🤣😂 nothing stronger than tea 😂
That’s what a flask is for B. Let them make their own You’re just too good a hostess
Don't be given Ber ideas... 😂😂
That's a great idea, there will be changes this year 🤣😂
@@glendeacon The MO on Wave Dancer before departure for long passages is large flasks filled with boiling water for tea/coffee/cuppasoup/mugshots. A heap of sandwiches made in lunch boxes. All set up for watch changes. It’s a very calm passage that sees me cook on route 🤢 stay on deck as much as possible/ sleep off watch
Karma😂😂
Nice seeing you again. Looking forward to finishing up jobs & getting out on the water soon
Us too, a few jobs left to do during Easter.
Looking good Makes you think of coming sailing season,
Great video , I have just bought my first sail boat . It has the same engine as yours. It’s been sitting for a few months. Hopefully it runs ok 😂
When we bought Sophys she was laid up for 3yrs and started first turn. We did have a cooling issue, which was quickly solved. Best of luck with the new boat may you share many great adventures together!
Like a boss
Hi, fair wind if your stiil on the sea... How did the engine go on the run ? I bet very few gas consumption. But in general...starting, oil, oxydation, material...thx. (Was sailing 14 years😊)
Still on the water and running well. 1 maybe 2 fills of fuel a year... So ya economic. No issue with corrosion. We do take off and run fresh water at the start and end of the season. But ya we must put together a follow up video now a few years on. 😜
God help any boat inside the harbour if that's the entrance 😮 that's insane
Nobody taken on the inlet 😢
😂
Bravo. This video was most instructional, showing all aspects of the job and the most importantly, why! And the top important was alignment of the shaft from the engine mounts.
Thank you!
The entrance to Courtown looks mighty scary in any form of westerly.
Westerly is fine most of the time. It's easterly the issue is...
@@fairweathersailors Ha. Getting my left and right mixed up
@brianbrowne206 ha ha... We often have to check what arm you watch is on as well!
Courtown harbour co wexford Ireland
Your in courtown
courtown again..
Wow......😳
I always watch people there 😂
courtown??
Good old scoretown
Cortown hu gorey
Not an easy feat. Steerage works as water flows past rudder. In surf mode you ride a moving cushion of water so the rudder basically has reduced flow and increased turbulence to perform in.
impressive, I would like to see him go round the corner at the end
Wow they made that look easy.
Good job Captain sir
Not his first rodeo. Maestro none the less.
!! WOW !! [but crazy]
That is harder than it looks
Can't imagin making that with my full-keel.
Sailors love to surf their boats
bro i live near there lmao😳
The bloated onlookers …
Are those observed at the entrance actually prepared to assist or just standing around semi- conscious to be entertained ?
Yes, at least that surfer got the wave all by to themself. Can't said that at Huntington Beach today.
Dff
Smart man
Marina di cecina
Insane skills. Wow.
Courtown harbour?
Yep sure is.
Sabe o que está fazendo...
Sailboats don't have a lot of horsepower for their auxiliary motor. This is pure skill.
Fun fact, the fasted you can go under sail is when the sail pushes you fast enough to also surf down a wave. Skippers love the feeling of the boat riding a wave
