Excellent West Hill thankyou for my point levers arrived yesterday they are Ggrrrreeeaaattt thankyou fitted and painted on my TMD.
@@tonyrobinson362 👍
One space saver on the spiral layout would be to replace one or both of the loops with dual or triple gauge track. Ho/Hom/Hoe (OO/TT/N). Tillig make Ho/Hom and Ho/Hoe dual gauge 3-rail track and points. At the moment triple gauge would have to be custom built with option of 6-rail symmetrical or 4 rail common one side or 4-rail common outer rails. Without turnouts and points its easy to run more then one gauge together. But turn outs and points are electrically complex.
@@briancooper562 nice idea. Although I think their focus is on products atm
For signals i need 3 aspects with 3 feathers too . Caroline

Hi Chris hope you are well . Watching this video again cause I’m trying to set up hm6010 and noticed in the instructions you show the wiring shows red green black yet in your video it’s red black green which one should I go for thank you
I think you might be confusing the wiring for the point motor and the signal? Hornby point motor; red/black/green Hornby signal; red/green/black And just to confuse things further… Peco surface points (PL-11) is the same as the Hornby signal; red/green/black. 😂

@@PeachyTT120 I know but I'm 50's, early 60's. So grateful for the video.
Nice insight into the power banks. But how do they behave in the event of a short circuit, for example if there is a derailment at the turnout? Also, can any of you read lips?
@@Ilmson with my clumsy hands I regularly cause shorts with the front bogies on the steam TT120 locos (then can easily spin 180degrees) and I’ve had no issues, mind you I’m using DCC concepts Alpha power which has an excellent protection system.
The Tramfabriek ones are out of stock already
As you said I think the smaller Hornby one is not targeted towards TT120. Perhaps it’ll work for the J50
@@damianinCanadaTT-OO that would be good…
Is there any trickery on the PCB on the train-o-matic item? Because if it is doing the clever stuff 0:26 0:26 , it should be possible to swap the capacitors supplied to different types/capacities that might fit just about anywhere.
@@mf303 they do supply a larger set of capacitors to go with the same board.
I’m shocked at the noise difference, even in a video, of the small chamber to large chamber
@@Dougs-ix1bn it certainly surprised me! And sounds worse in person
Interesting to see a resolution to carriage poor running. It’s easily the Achilles heel of the scale ! I’ve had to carve out bits of under frame ( none of which is noticeable from the exterior ) but I’ve also put clock repairers brass washers between bogie and body. Everything tickety boo now but it does make you wonder about testing and quality control. It’s not good if you buy your first train set and it doesn’t go round corners! I have noted there is far too much vertical play in some wheel sets so I like the idea of the shimmy. I must say the plum and custard Staniers are gorgeous.. would be wonderful with a blue Duchess..😊
Well that answers a few questions. Nicely produced. I'll keep the Hornby pre-orders for the HST's and get a few of the Nano stayalives ordered for everything else. Now to find that AI app that does lip reading....... 😉
@@baz657😁
Really useful video. When you fitted the Train-O-Matic you selected the smaller capacitors. I think the larger ones would have given you a longer connection. Could the larger capacitors be used in the 08?
@@robnelson7818 yes, and the Gresley Pacifics
As I have not used the HM7000 decoders on my TT:120 locos, I have found that only the 08 class really needs the keep alive due to it's short wheelbase. The A4, A1 & Class 50 are Zimo fitted and work reliably over Hornby points. My HST has ESU Lok Sound V5/V5FX decoders and again works flawlessly over Hornby points. The 08 however, does have issues. I have 2 08s, a BR Blue & one that I have converted to the Dock Tank. In both of these I have used a Zimo MS500N, sugar cube speaker & a TCS KA2 stay alive. With the KA2 I can get up to 25 seconds of sound and about 15 of sound & movement. I must admit that is is a bit of a squeeze to get it all in, but both work without any issue over all my lines. Very educational video Chris.
@@BoaFilmsPlc cheers, yes it does seem to be a problem more prominent amongst the Bluetooth users..
Hi Chris , I only have A1,A3 and A4 , I pre ordered the new powerbanks to fit , and your saying that they won’t go straight in, so I’ve cancelled that order and will try one of the other model powerbanks
@@DennisRobins-ly9pp apparently I should have mentioned that they will fit the very first batch of DCC ready set locos (Blink Bonny & Willy Whitelaw) as these didnt have the pre-fitted speaker with extended contact board, However, these are very few in number compared to what became standard across all these chassis around mid 2023

Hornby have really dropped the ball on this. Brand new products not working with each other is just stupid. A 20 year old loco? Whatever, fair enough. Locos being released THIS YEAR not working? No. Amateur hour.
@@RichardBrooklyn I agree that I don’t really understand their thinking behind this 🤷🏻♂️
Another great video, i have pre ordered 4 hm7070 so its good to know which locos will fit, thank you

I have two power banks from Hornby on order (seem to be waiting for ages) so I’m assuming they will be the new ones. I think I’ll hold off buying any more for now and wait to see what develops.
@@ejm9716 They of course will still be a good match for the class 43 HST’s
On the Class 50’s. There’s probably just enough room to fit the Hornby stay alive. Where the cab roof to the lid. With a sticky pad.
@@peteralbertthomas I looked into that, but of course it’s another compromise as you can see it clearly through the front window
Wow, that's excellent news about DCCconcepts. That's a game changer! It's at times like this that I'm grateful for my lip reading skills 😉
@@NewModelRailway1 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if Hornby will do a TT version of the stay alive, you really only need a few seconds to pass a dead spot or point so much smaller capacitors could be used. An alternative is they build the stay alive into the loco as default. For the few pence it costs for capacitors I doubt it would dent the profit margins too much.
@@timallen_uk I do wonder if their development team is looking into doing such a thing with the HM7000 decoders.. time will tell
Re stay Alives and steam locos - I've taken to removing the often rubbish stock plastic coal loads, I then put other black electrical tape OR folding the void left by the coal with cling film, I pop the stay Alive onto of the cling film, add real coal, and essential trap it and hide it within the coal I add - obviously, you need to let it dry for a few days otherwise you risk a shot circuit. Then you just trim the cling film away Easy
@@IronHorseRailways yup, I’ve done that myself on a few of the Pacific’s.. but some of the newbies to this scale/hobby don’t quite have that level of confidence yet. 🤔
@@PeachyTT120 it's not difficult, they should learn!🤣❤️
Do the Pacific’s need a stay alive, have had a txs A4 but it’s back to hornby as it wouldn’t work out of the box on hm7000

@@newnzy Contact Hornby customer services if you’re getting no joy from Key Model World maybe?
I'll be ordering a rake of those box wagons, they look superb. Also a dmu would be brilliant.
@@plane15 👍 don’t forget to tell Revolution on their suggestions form 👍
Thanks for arranging this - another great discussion. It is wonderful to see the friendly faces behind the company and in the small world of TT:120, I think personalities matter and encourage us to buy more products. The wagons announced recently look fantastic although I think that they will be a little large for my layout. I would welcome something like their VEA Vans as a possible future product and these I definitely would buy.
@@MRBJ0239 yes, they are a real friendly bunch at Revolution 👍
I hope there will be a HM 7000 6 pin decoder with sound, so the smaller loco's fit in with the rest
@@pim1234 it’s a question I intend to ask Hornby if I get another chance to interview them
I think the Modelu figures are great in TT120
@@pim1234 absolutely. 👍 I use them for the static scenes as the details and posing are excellent.
Something you said just opened my eyes about HM7000. I have a Railroad Tornado in OO scale that is unreliable with an HM7000 decoder, and I even added my own tender pickups, but it didn't seem to help, with the decoder frequently stopping and restarting at the slightest provocation. I might just use a different decoder and see if that resolves the problem, or get a power bank.
try the powerbank, its a game changer
@@PeachyTT120 I will. I don't know where, but I will find a way.
