Sometimes I nap for 30 min to an hour on a multi-day. Often don’t set up my tent though. I bring the gossamer gear thin-light out, the puffy under my head & sometimes the rain jacket over my face. Legs over the pack. Can’t be too long or else I don’t want to continue.

I've done my own mountain safety research, and those don't seem safe. Tossing your son like he's a marmot and you're big agnes, off the north face of the Alps while mountaineering, might leave him lost like Nemo. I mean, eureka, hitting him with that pack will give him some more Zs. Then dragging him from summit to sea takes some serious mountain hardware!

  • @TheWanderingStone

Im confused about the pfas thing and tents. From my understanding of modern tent fabrics, at least with mainstream and cottage brands, is that they dont use a dwr for waterproofing so the pfas thing doesnt apply to them. They use a woven fabric with a PU or PE coating for waterproofing which will never need a dwr recoating because it never had one to begin with. So high quality tents shouldnt be affected by this change at all. This change will mostly impact gore-tex style waterproof clothing which has been on the decline for decades since we discovered that the original gore-tex recipe was toxic because of the pfas in it. I switched to silpoly rain gear with mechanical ventilation for this reason.

Eating is such a waste of time when your eyes can absorb all the energy you need. The Native Americans have been doing it for centuries It’s called “Sun-Eating” They stand barefoot on rock and stare at the sun at dusk and dawn, the rods and cones in their eyes work as solar arrays transferring energy directly into their bodies They can go days or weeks without actually eating anything NASA did a study on Sun-Eating and verified it to be true Prove me wrong I’m not making it up Seriously
