24:28 You need a koozie for some stuff to rehydrate properly… I made my own that fits around my pot and that I also put freezer bags of hot rehydrating food…. But with no silicone dots! 😅
A hack I’ve started doing; I add cold water to my next next dehydrated meal hours ahead of the next meal time. At mealtime, put everything in my pot and the meal generally rehydrates much more thoroughly and quickly. The “crotch pot” works well for this application, because you can hang it from your pack:)
A really inventive one I recently heard; Fill a water bottle with hot water to have in your sleeping bag for warmth. In the middle of the night, when you wake up to pee, drink the warm water, urinate in the bottle, and then put the warm bottle back in your sleeping bag for even more warmth. I thought that one was hilarious and so smart.😂
Hot Water in the Nalgene bottle is the reason I just can't ditch it. Climbing into a Pre-Heated sleeping bag on a chilly night is amazing, and all the smart water bottle users are missing out!
In saying that what you're really saying is "I believe in the links Derek checks out provided by Carl and all of the other junk he makes up to fill in the gaps." :)
In 2016, I hiked 1860 miles of the AT. I had a wide brimmed hat. The bugs were driving me crazy, so I came up with this hack. Imagine the brim of the hat, and the front most part is twelve o'clock. I took around eight inches of my bear hang cord and punched holes in the brim at ten and two so that the cord dangled down each side of my face. As I walked, the cord would sway back and forth, keeping the bugs out of my face. It looked really stupid but worked like a charm.
It reminds me of animals flicking their tails. :) That is a genius hack and one that I'll not for a future episode. But was it annoying having the cord swaying in your vision?
@BackpackingandBlisters It was a wide brim, so they never touched my face. It was also good for morning spiderwebs. As a flip-flopper, I saw a lot of webs.
I can...depending on the pack. When I can't I either have a buddy grab it or I just swing my pack around. I'd rather have that than the jingle jangles.

At least you avoided the dots. :)
If you freeze water with a cup of air at lower altitudes it will boil faster at higher altitudes
Great to see Derek again. Great episode, guys!
Thanks! Appreciate you!
Great to see Derek!

Thanks so much for checking it out! Appreciate the encouragement!
the worst backpacking hack.....fake a sprain to trick someone else into carrying your pack. Glad to have you back Derek.
I should try that one!
Pine cones in a pinch haha, waiting for the vid!
One day....
Derek's back, I'm back 👍
Thanks for your patience with Derek.
Gotta try the water jug hack! haha, and I believe Carl saw this
I found an old picture of the guy who did it. I wish I had a pic of the jugs.
Wipe hack. If they dry out add water.
Good call. I just don't bring enough for this to be an issue. Ben probably does though. :)
Oh I bring enough water 🤣

I've heard the first part. The second part is next level!

I dry my wet wipes in the oven and rehydrate when I need to use them:) works well!
I typically only bring 3 wipes. So not sure it's worth the effort. If I brought a ton, like Ben. This would be gold.

Cutting the handle off of toothbrushes and shaving the bottom of your feet (I'm assuming shaving the callouses) - Every gram counts.
'Every gram counts' might be a future episode title. Callous removal is a great tip! :)
I can"t reach the water bottle on my waist strap, I'm inflexible, too muscular to reach haha!
