@botaccount3449 it's more than being a fan, although definitely that. I grew up in Florida watching Kelly surf before I moved to the North shore. While getting to know them both a bit, John just has a professional element that sets him apart from everyone , both in the water and out.

JJF has a life that doesn't center on the CT, or a sponsorship that requires him to compete. The guy is a waterman not just a surfer...just became a father and... and...and

Hes won pipe twice, not so scared.

He is the most consistent surf during those last few years in pipe. They same applies to Teahupo'o which he is also a beast. What you are talking about is absolutely nonsensical.

If Medina had injured himself last year during competition I get that Ian would be in but this is 2025 and only couple weeks out from the first event surely it goes to the next surfer on the Chnaga!!!!! What are the WSL';s rules saying?

Yes, but the Pipe Masters event has changed...It's no longer a historical event where the 'Masters' of Pipeline show their tube riding prowess. It's becoming something else. I'm glad that Jamie took it seriously this time and got some great waves. I would have loved to see Mason make that one tube and be in the Finals. He is following in the family footsteps, yet also bringing a radical new approach. He fits old school and new school to me. Yew!

Yeh, It's not the best comment especially when you just took the year off, but it makes it fun to stoke a rivalry. Part of me feels like he got railroaded by ESPN Brazil. The two answers are both bad- I'm better than John or I'm not as good as John (which a competitive person might think is admitting that they suck). Tough choice.
