Living a creative life outdoors (and in a van) with dogs.
Wildheart. Lover of wild places & the more-than-human. Photographer, writer, dog trainer, backpacker, van dweller, aspiring filmmaker. My trail name is "Love Dogs," after my favorite poem by Rumi and my proclivity for canines.
After completing The Colorado Trail in 2023, after seven years of segment hiking it with my dogs, I re-committed to living life on my own terms, circling back to what's always been most important to me: wild places, creative expression, and dogs. I made a goal to buy an old van and hit the road with my dogs by the time I turn 50 (2026) and ended up reaching that goal sooner than anticipated (2024). The dogs and I now live full-time in a 1995 Dodge Ram B2500, and I'm embracing online platforms like TH-cam, Substack, and Patreon to travel, create, and share outdoor/wilderness experiences with others.
“There are love dogs no one knows the names of. Give your life to be one of them.” (Rumi)

The black Velcro turned out looking great.
@@tangenttrails Thanks!
Cool. Looks clean.
Thanks, Rod!
Thanks for the tag - love your improvement on the idea!! Great idea with the Velcro for easy change outs if needed, too. With the gorilla tape mine lasted about a year. The sun and heat this summer started loosening it. I took it off last month and took a new approach using the window side of the interior trim as a frame. I'll post a video soon 😊
Awesome! I subscribed to your channel, so I look forward to seeing the new approach. Right now the velcro is working really well, with the exception of the sticky side of the velcro that goes through the mesh on the window gets stuck to my rubber seal when I open the windows. I'm still trying to come up with something to put over the sticky side that will stay in place. It's sticky enough to stick to the rubber seal a bit, but not sticky enough that anything I put over it actually stays on. So not sure yet how to handle that, unless I just put something on there when I close the windows and remove it when they're open. Right now I'm just dealing with it. The positive side is that it's velcro, so all I have to do is stick it back together. But it is a tiny bit annoying. :) Thanks for watching and for the comment, and especially for the idea!

This video made me appreciate the engineering behind farm machinery so much more. Does the machine handle rough terrains without damage?
Thanks for watching! Not sure. The farmland here is pretty flat and well-prepared. You can get tracks for most of it to prevent creating ruts in soft or muddy soil.
@@lovedogsontheloose Thank you for answering the question, where I live the terrain is often more rough, I will probably have to process it before starting, do you have any experience or type of machine that can advise me?
@@TheSmartFarm247 Of course. Unfortunately I’m not much help, as I’m not a farmer myself. Just grew up around it. I would maybe start by reaching out to your local agriculture extension office if you have one. They would have the best guidance for your specific area.
@@lovedogsontheloose Thank you for sharing useful information, I will try it and see how it goes
@@TheSmartFarm247 Good luck to you.
Guess there must have been a reason to open the field like that?
Not sure this answers your question, but this was actually two fields with end rows and fencing between. They took out the end rows first to get into each field.
@@lovedogsontheloose Thanks, it's just that usually to open a field you go around the outside or up the middle and around the outside.
@@raincoast9010 Gotcha. I had to rewatch a bit to see what you mean.I think what you're referring to is how he's gotten to the turn rows (around 0:22?)? I think he's trying to clear the turn rows first, but he's trying not to waste any corn so he's going into those rows that go the opposite direction a little bit first in order to get to that first turn row. Not sure I explained that very well, but that'd be my best guess.
@@raincoast9010 Or he might've just been bored. 😂 I know it doesn't help that these fields are such an awkward geometry.
I just bought one extended light with packs, thank you for the review, great review, thank you for side by side comparisons thats huge great info in this review
Glad you found it helpful!
Great video. Thank you for sharing!
@@Railfan6675 Thanks for watching!
For the Loop issues.... maybe using a rubber washer and sliding it in....could be enough to catch the elastic?... just an idea :)
That might work well; thanks. Honestly, I haven't had any real issues with it the way it is, so long as I make sure I put the loop under the "nipple" of the pole when I set up the tent.
I really enjoyed that! Love the overhead perspective. You really put this together nicely and the music was perfect!
@@MtnWanderer-TieDye- Thanks! I’m glad you liked it!
This is great. So this is feed corn, correct?
I've always heard it referred to as field corn around here, but I think that's what you meant. It can be used for livestock feed but it's also used as an ingredient in lots of foods that we humans consume, like corn oil, syrup, starch, cereals, etc. It can also be used in ethanol production. Lots of uses.
@@lovedogsontheloose Yes. It’s the same.
You did an excellent job. Thank you.
Thank you. I'm glad you found it useful!
Kind of an ASMR video. Love it! Love the flag too even tho I'm a Lions fan 😌🏈.
Well, we won't hold that against you. ;-)
I've only seen a Bald Eagle about 3 times, I think. ALWAYS special ❤.
Wow!
Yeah, first time I'd actually seen an eagle flying with vultures, but apparently it's not uncommon for them to share thermals.
@@lovedogsontheloose I’ve not seen it until now. Pretty cool.
Great video. Makes me want to work for Culligan.
Thanks! My brother seems to enjoy it. Lotta carrying bags of salt and bottles of water up and down stairs, but I think he likes visiting with and getting to know the people he delivers to (and their dogs), and just being able to work independently.
Give me a priority on your wish list?
@@mrwes100 I went in and added priority labels to a few things. Nothing that is absolutely necessary, of course. But hey, a “wish list” is a list of things we wish we had, right? :) Thank you for asking.
Cool. I found this interesting to watch.
@@tangenttrails it was fun! How are your knees doing?
@@lovedogsontheloose The knee has not improved. I have a Monday appointment to see what’s going on.
@@tangenttrails Oh no. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope they can get it figured out for you. Sending good energy your way.
@@lovedogsontheloose Thank you!❤️
God bless your Mom.
Did you get the shower?
The company opted not to send me one. It was worth a shot, and at least they did respond and let me know. Since then a very VERY kind patron reached out and asked me which shower I'd requested, and ended up buying me the shower and the mounted shower room (!!). I haven't gotten the room yet, but I got the shower and it's pretty amazing. It's the Joolca Nomad kit. Hot water, even. It's definitely nomad heaven. Will do a video once I get the whole setup.
Great series on your transition to nomad van life. Thanks for sharing and I love your fur babies. Hey, are you prior Army?
Thanks for watching! Yeah, 8 years in the Army Reserve.

Just subbed! The side-roll top hack is a keeper. Thanks for sharing. About how many inches of shock cord did you add to the bottom of each side of the pack to hold your tent?
Oh wow. Thanks! I'm not sure about length of shock cord-- let me check my pack later and I'll get back to you!
@@mrwes100 I’ve got 9” of shock cord on the bottom.
@@lovedogsontheloose Thank you for checking.
@@mrwes100 No problem!
Thanks for sharing. Which backpacking poncho are you using?
Hey, thanks for watching. I used the Sea to Summit Ultra-sil Nano poncho for that particular trip. However, I did not have a great experience with it due to wind blowing it all over the place. You can check out my gear followup video from this trip here, if you like: amzn.to/4dSWWPY
What river is in the video. The Missouri?
@@tangenttrails It’s actually just a lake behind my parents’ place, on the other side of the bluff.

Loved this ❤. At 6:25 for few sec's, reminded me of a Maxfield Parrish painting. I'm thinking your the happiest at home 😌❤️.
Thanks, Sue. I'm definitely happiest anywhere there are more trees than people. :) But there are multiple generations of connection to this particular place. This land is family.
@@lovedogsontheloose Agreed.
hey just to point out that the 3rd strap isn't on the rib cage but farther over the "soft" part of the body.... therefore you shouldn't try to lift your pup as this could be dangerous (pressuring internal organs). The harness looks well built, but doesn't look as secure as the Ruffwear's Frontline by example (this one has the 3rd strap over the ribcage) For the design of the harness, not sure I would want a modular option... mine is always with a 3-strap... Any thought on that? Are you removing the extension sometime, and why?
This is a really great point; thanks. I'm sure this is why the Säker isn't rated for LLC.
So now you've got me researching this. Did you mean the Ruffwear Flagline harness?
@@lovedogsontheloose oh yeah the Flagline, I'm a bit tired sorry 😜 It has a bottom panel that goes all the way trough the last strap, so it helps for support if you lift your pup. Then for the exact fit, it depends on each dog's morphology of course 🙃 but it works really well for mine
@@moutonnoir6159 Gotcha. I'll try to tag the person who had asked about this, so they're aware of this info. I've also got the Ray Allen Icon Air harness, and it's rated for LLC but I've never compared the straps before. I wonder if the Säker straps could simply be adjusted to sit better on the dog's body. Säker does have a Rescue Sling that connects to their harness and is meant for lifting. I think it adds a belly pad where that third strap sits.
Happy Birthday
You're going to have to do this again in a couple of months...because so many trees!!! Great music choices, and I really enjoyed the close ups at the end. Well done
@@mcblakemore3423 Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it! And I know!! It seems like I always miss fall colors here. I’ll be heading back to West Texas in late September, and it probably won’t peak here until October. We’ll see.
