The Piano Technician Academy was formed by a group of passionate instrument professionals who saw a void in the instrument technology industry that had been present for too long. Until now, there has never been an online learning environment for students wanting to learn how to tune and repair pianos. Our course uses modern day teaching techniques including slideshows, pictures and graphics, allowing the student to fully grasp and understand the material. PTA professors are CPTs that have run or currently run a successful piano tuning business of their own. The student will have constant access to his/her professor via email. All forms of contact to the professor will be addressed within 24 hours.

not all digital piano are the same...my N1X yamaha has hard, med, soft settings for its weighted keys

Incredibly short sighted, biased and downright malicious conclusion you've reached there. Digital keyboard come in all kinds of 'weighted' versions. Even two differing keybeds that are labeled as 'fully weighted' can differ a lot.
Biased? Explain. Obviously digital come in all different weights. Just like acoustic pianos. Can you show us down weight on a digital that is the same as an acoustic? Can you back up why we as piano technicians are short sided?

Not all acoustic grands are made the same either. I had a Boston baby grand growing up that ended up giving me carpal tunnel by the time I turned 19, because the weight was so heavy.
I have been saying this for a million years, better off using a semi weighted 😅

Too many unknown facts about why some hammers are more expensive: if it's all about compression, heat, glue, then you can make your own felt by buying wool. You won't find any "short" hair. Spread it in fluffy pieces, add soap, massage it between cling film. Repeat adding layers. Steam it with hot water. Compress it a little bit. Done😁

I did this same job very recently. Except they were cable ties. Fortunately, it was only a few with the temporary fix, but I went through and I replaced all the threads with nice pink ones.
what if the key beside it is low or high?
I just 3d printed a bunch of those 3 in one guages for the tuners that recently did the Yamaha grand reg course here in Melbourne. The tool they asked me to copy was 2mm thick, not 1.5, I really need to go through the Yamaha tech book and remake the tool with the right specs. Other dimensions of the plastic tool I copied were not quite right either, like the black key rest height.
What if the key doesn't dip down enough. How do you remove material from the bottom
You simply remove the paper punchings under the felt punching. If that is still not enough, you can get a thinner felt punching.

No breaks? I could never do that without one, my arms and back would be done for, but great work!
It only took about 20 minutes. The voicing tool is weighted as well which makes it a bit easier on the arms!

Our church received as a gift a small Baldwin upright piano. The piano is in good condition in that it stays pretty much in tune between tunings. The issue is that there isn't that flow between notes due to a poor restrain. I have adjusted the pedal several times, but that in itself doesn't seem to really help. The pads are not touching the strings, but apparently enough that we are not getting the flow that I/we are looking for. In short, the issue seems to be somewhere other than at the pedal itself, Any suggestions?
Hello! Not really without being in front of the piano. We recommend hiring a Registered Piano Technician from the PTG to help!

Why do the action forces change? I can see a gram or two as the wood absorbs moisture or dries out, but why such drastic changes. Mainstream quality piano companies must be weighing each note at the factory. Ok, maybe hammer voicing may change the weight, but then again its only a gram or two worst case.
