I saw this when it first came out at the cinema when I was 21 …. For a few weeks after the bedroom light stayed on and I couldn’t watch the film again for ages! Loved seeing your reactions to it, my knowing what was coming next. Good wasn’t it!

It's hard to explain them being separated has nothing to do with him looking and flirting with other women. That's just part of the macho character of the 80s and early 90s. You know times were different you know women actually did not mind being stared at There was even a commercials that would talk about women catching a man's eye. It that time it was normal for men to stare at a woman.

The 4th is awesome it is the 5th no one cared for. I would arque he has better chemistry with his side character in that one than part 3

It’s a PREQUEL and it’s sorely underrated (the prequel). I have always thought this was one of the best films made and O was happy with the prequel! I think you should watch it. Btw, if you know Norwegian he gave away the whole plot (and it’s nice to see someone actually be suspicious of the dog from the start!) (I knew the Brit’s were smarter than the Americans 😜)!

You do realise your lovely Ewok you like is played by a very young Warwick Davis! What most people, especially Americans, is that they were all filmed in the UK! There were always supposed to be 9 btw. I presume that Lukas had a general idea about the bare bones of the plot - I just realised I can’t talk about it properly without giving away spoilers - but if you strip to the basic plot (which kinda all had to be ham fisted into 9 after 8) there was the potential for an excellent trilogy there with the same fundamental meaning by the end and as someone who grew up with the prequels coming out, I always thought they were fine - and 3 is arguably the best film of the 6 but because it’s the “finale”. I was so disappointed at the lost potential in the sequels because it could have worked so well!

Interesting, that’s the first time I spotted parallels with matrix in the philosophy of toad’s teachings… Kind of obvious now I think about it! And about deals with Vader, exactly its appeasement. An interesting fact I can’t decide if Sigourney was right about or not was that getting down to her underwear in the shuttle was supposed to symbolize feeling safe, and the actress actually argued for getting completely naked as a more effective way of conveying that. There was a period (Life of Brian is a good example) where full frontal was’t completely avoided by mainstream films (I think in a funny way it was supposed to be a feminist thing) - it is after all more realistic if it’s a fly on the wall scene. As for being dated. Some 70’s films are dated in the first 5 seconds, I personally think this is something you could show to someone and it’s only the use of ship technology that can date it. The rest is indistinguishable from something made now. I’m not against using CGI at all but if it’s done right model work can be done better. The follow up is better in that respect although you can still tell when they’re using rear projection (which they cleverly weave into future technology in a special edition scene). If you want to see the pinnacle of model work then watch John Carpenters “The Thing”!

I saw this film at this point, many decades ago. So I’ve seen it many times. I always love to watch people discovering it. I am glad you loved it. It is a great film. I loved the reactions of both of you when Takagi was murdered. Also the other thing that made me laugh was your reactions to when the reporter wanted to show the children. (Sorry, I don’t know your names) Man had stern face like you don’t do that!!! And the woman (again sorry about the name) totally shocked like it’s the most evil thing ever. Women just get it. I didn’t totally understand ‘til I was 40 with several children. I went back and checked your names. Thanks Liam and Steph.
