This is a Strike Through Error not a Lamination Peel Error. It is as obvious as the nose on King George's face that a foreign object has come between the die and the planchet at the time of minting rather than there being any contamination within the metal itself. Again, this is not a Lamination Error this is a Strike Through Error. Repeat Strike Through not Lamination. In this instance what was between the die and the planchet is anyone's guess I would suggest that it were as simple as a small piece of paper or textile given that we are discussing a soft metal.
great information. Thank you for sharing your research.
Hello Matt. I believe the First issue (Jan 88) of circulation notes i.e. AB - where the 3rd and 4th numbers are 93, 94 or 96 only apply when the 1st and 2nd numbers are 33 or less. Would love to hear your thoughts.

Great history, thanks!
@@dougstacks thanks so much for watching Doug! 🥳
Your videos are great Matt, but I would've liked to hear you explain the retention of coinage a bit better. The values of the coins were all intentionally inflated by the proclamation, with the easiest example being the cartwheel penny being doubled in value to 2 pence. So any ships that took cartwheel pennies with them when they left the colony instantly lost half their value.
@@wellactually1510 there are many things I want to discuss but I try to keep my videos straightforward for collectors at all levels, if I had time and didn't have to open the shop this video would have been about 90 minutes 🤣
Your shop is looking absolutely beautiful , well done Matt 👍

Very interesting
@@kaynefryday6637 thanks for watching mate! Are you coming to the Perth Money Expo this year?
Love the vid Matt, as always a well presented vid 😉 Couple of questions... Are the gold coins 22k like the sovs, or 24k? And what would a full set cost at today's rates? Btw... Won't be in Perth when you're here for ANDA.... You'll have to coincide it with my work roster for next year 😂
@@mcduncanpresents9389 g'day mate! The Johannas were 22 but the 8 escudos were 87.5% so there was a nice bit of variety! A full set would cost somewhere in the order of $25k but it all depends on quality so there's a fair bit of fluctuating 🥳 Ahh well there's always next year!!
Great video and some beautiful coins! - I think the other intention with the proclamation was to over-value the coins - so the lovely copper coin you had which was worth one penny in the UK, was worth two pence here - so it was worth trying to keep them in the colony rather than send them away on ships where they weren't worth as much. Looking forward to seeing what other proclamation coins you get in (even if I can't afford them!)
@@QuentinChristensen thanks for watching Quentin! I'm sure I'll be able to showcase each of the coins from the series in the future!!

@@silvermad1 thanks for watching!! 😊🥳
Currently $1 Australian Dollar is worth 40 cents as $1 doesn't buy you very much anymore
According to the "Australian Inflation Calculator" phone app I use 6-and-a-half cents in 1966 (the year our dollar was first issued) had the buying power of $1.00 today (approximately). A$1.00 then is worth A$15.73 today according to the app.

I just saw Phil's finds and collects new 50 cent book. I didn't realise you had a book that has clip ins and has space for the 6 effigies. Book 7 was a VST. Yours his 8th book is much better. Thanks Thompson Coins.
Great coin, and very interesting errors! Thanks for sharing. Sovereigns are often traded based on the spot price of the day - higher for better grade examples of course - and yours is definitely a nice example in any case, but out of interest what kind of premium would errors like those add?
Another great interesting video. Have a great weekend, hope everything is going ok with business as well mate.
