2000+ years old, how many sets of hands have these coins gone through? Lol, and yet many don't like to handle their modern Silver coins. We are a strange mob.
@@2B34ever it's unbelievable when you start to consider the journey these coins took to end up in the display case of the shop! You're right too, it's very strange indeed 🤣
Great history lesson 🙆♂️. I like the high relief( seems like poured pieces). My oldest coin is a youngster compared to those, it’s a late 900’s Chinese cash coin, it’s cast not hammered 🔨. Thanks for sharing Matt.
Another great coin video Matt, l bought a Gordian the 3rd coin this year, 241 to 243 AD and I learnt all about Gordian the 3rd and l love this coin. I have also been lucky to be given two Indian Mughul coins in which I still need to get dated as from researching there are many coins from the Indian Mughul era.
Where I use to work a bloke called me Steve for 2 and a half years. When I was leaving for another job I said to him “you do know my name is David don’t you?” He said yes. I said why do you call me Steve then? He said you’ve always answered to Steve so I kept calling you by that. 😂😂😂😂😂

@@lovecraftianwalrus4490 they were indeed and those coins were absolutely stunning!! I had a few fakes of them come through the store a couple of weeks back, I should have highlighted them in this video too!
In the description of these coins on your website, could you add their size (diameter)? I'm interested in one, but want to know if it's a small or large coin 😬
@@peecee1384 they are all comparatively large if you're comparing with a drachm, these are 17 grams and the diameters will be around 25-28mm, if there's one in particular you'd like some more info on feel free to drop me an email at matt@thompsonscoins.com ☺️

After his death I believe coins were actually struck with his face on them by the successor Kingdoms in Greece. Which is cool.
