Hi sir, I’ve explored the entire biking TH-cam community looking for a bikepacker who films in a POV/first-person style, and your content truly stands out. It’s so unique-please keep creating more amazing videos!
Just trying to help info. Kremmling there is red mountain RV park, tent camping along side, yes there is traffic park but nice clean showers, laundry and the owner family kids very nice.
Your videos are some of the best I've watched, great job! I was waiting for this near kremmling, next one out of you'll be passing my place, others planning ride take note, 24 miles out of kremmling around Williams fork reservoir mm 14.5 cr #3 Utepass, 9 miles before top on left is bike decor tree, cooler under, single gate stop on in, relax, camp, all riders welcome. Next video I'll watch and see if you have footage near then ping it time stamp comment.
Hello and thank you very much for your installation tutorial for the Old Mountain Rack Divide. I had been looking for a good front rack for my bike for a long time. You have really cleared up a lot of doubts for me. You made my video a long time ago but I appreciate your help and time in preparing the video. Kind regards @extremlimitsoutdoor
I’m absolutely adoring this series. You’re showing parts of the route that others aren’t, and talking about helpful details that others skip. It’s a breath of fresh air and makes me look forward to riding this year’s Tour Divide even more.
@@DaveFleet Thanks I appreciate the comment. I wanted to give future riders information like I wanted when I was researching the route. I wanted to show it rather than talk to the camera about the day afterwards
Hi Dave, good luck next year. Take note, after kremmling around Williams fork reservoir mm14.5 cr 3 ute pass on left is a small bike decor hanging tree at road, cooler under, single gate to stop on in, camp, relax. Top of Utepass is mm 5 so 9 miles before. Mountain Marti & Ute Steve here, work from home mostly around.
Watching your videos makes me so enthusiastic for my trip this year . So enjoyable to watch
Thanks for taking us along. BTW, what are u doing with your food at night when out in the bush camping.
@@Rambl-n_Man If it wasn’t bear country - like sage and open prairie - I would store it on the bike to protect it from the smaller creatures. My preference was to camp at USFS or BLM campgrounds as they would have a better chance to have water nearby and bear boxes but if they didn’t have boxes I would store in the latrine. Otherwise I would do a hang and some of the dispersed site did have beer hangs someone else had made
Yep, that ride out of Radium to Kremmling is a long slog up. Great video series for touring speed riders. Thanks!
@@Mike-vd2qt I think that was one of, if not my longest day and the weather certainly didn’t help. lol, I was the slowest of all the riders I came across except for one. Thanks for following along!
So what did the bike manufacturer say?
@@onthetrailwithbart523 no response from them.
Thanks for doing this video! --I've always done all my hikes using just an iPhone. So when I'd get to camp, I would just edit the entire day's clips right then and there. Then I would upload the video to TH-cam, and delete all the clips off my phone. I guess that would equate to using TH-cam as the "Cloud". --It must be a MASSIVE amount of work for someone who has clips from an iPhone, a GoPro and a Drone, and then try to save those THOUSANDS of clips, and sort them out weeks later at home. --And now on TH-cam, people are also adding Insta 360 clips (on top of their iPhone, GoPro, and drone footage). OMG. --It just must take hours to edit one day's video.
@@onthetrailwithbart523 I think your system is the way to do it and get it out quickly. I’ve been editing since I got back in September 😂
It appears that you're editing these videos from home after the ride was over. How many Terabytes of storage did that take?
@@onthetrailwithbart523 3 (1-1tb & 1-2tb ssd’s)
Are you using a lavaliere microphone? There's very little wind pop.
Only on a couple shots. I was too lazy to set it up most of the time. I did have a windscreen on the GoPro but as you can tell the audio from the GoPro was doing some funky auto levels and the audio is all screwed up requiring the subtitles
When you pan around, are you holding your Cell Phone in one hand and steering with another?
Yes, some creators can ride without hands if the road is smooth enough and vlog
I'm very impressed by your videos. Really excellent.
Man, you don't know how lucky you were not to have had GALE FORCE winds. My friend and I hiked through that area on the CDT. Winds were gusting up to 50mph....for DAYS. Like most long distance hikers, I'm working my way into BikePacking. One question: When you go into a grocery store, what do you do to leave your bike parked outside? (That could be a video by itself...how to keep from getting your bike from being stolen while BikePacking) With my backpack, I just take it off and put it in the shopping basket. I'm NEVER more than arm's length from by backpack. With a bike, even if they can't steal the whole bike, there are like 6 bags that they could just walk off with.
Yes! You are right I feel I was very lucky with the winds. As for the grocery store stops yes there are dedicated videos on that subject. But basically you have to be smart about where you lock the bike and the area. If you’re with another rider that obviously works. I’ll try and lock it where I can see it or near the entrance and/or high traffic area so the hope being someone would stop a thief and it’s more about stealing the whole bike not just the bags.
I’ve literally walked my bike through the store and when one store manager asked me not to I told him I had a bike stolen and he let me continue.
Camping in a soft-sided tent or camper near Brooks Lake is often prohibited. That's why the ACA doesn't include those campgrounds.
@@nicholaslegan1339 that would explain it , thank you
Wow; that Lander Creek campsite was beautiful!
Great video story. I have worked the Great Divide Basin, and the sun is deceptive. Few riders realize the elevation effect at 6500-7500', and it wears on you. I live and ride in Wyoming and would like to put together a large loop of the Red Desert and Great Divide Basin. Putting together the water logistics is the biggest challenge. Decades as a hiker in the Rockies and Northern Plains, cow water is a way of life.
@@sagehiker I think you’re right and would know. I didn’t fuel properly and drink enough water even though the temperatures were deceptively comfortable. Both days I was affected. Thanks for the comment it’s very important information!
Every time I watch a video, I think, this is great to prepare for the GDMBR! Thanks
@@Ok_Rouleur That was the plan & hope that those prepping would have some intel when planning and those who have ridden it would enjoy the memory
I have been able to connect a USB c cable between the gopro and the phone to be able to do the transfer. Try doing that with the hub.
I think that should work with the hub because I think the camera is just a card reader in that situation. Thanks for the suggestion
loving following your journey I will be taking this trip June 26 Sounds like Lava Lodge are just exploiting cyclists desperate for a few necessities. I will be sure to give them a pass
@@mykaraokeplaylist7478 thanks for watching! There’s another disappointing stop in Platoro
Great stuff! This question is for anyone who wants to answer: On average, how many hours/days does it take to cross the Basin?
I was probably average. One of the guys I was riding with earlier took I think 4-6 days because he enjoyed it so much and took his time
I can relate to your exhaustion when you got to Rawlins. I was cooked too. We camped about 6 miles before South City and rode to the A&M Reservoir in one day then on to Rawlins the next. Probably the most worn out I got on the whole trip. I was lucky to have had a riding partner with. I'm wonder if it was you who stopped to talk to us as we sat down alongside to road in the basin having a snack.
@@b.k.2974 that would be a hard couple days for anybody. I don’t think that was me
Another amazing video Thank you
Thanks for sharing Joe. Did you film with i-phone, go pro, or what?
@@garygriffin5432 GoPro chest cam, a DJI pocket osmo, drone, and a Sony mirrorless camera on a tripod. I didn’t use my iPhone that much because of the image processing which I hate
Lovely reminder of this section👌. We were a day behind you throughout the basin, camped in the same spots too. I think the itinerary for this part worked quite well. We'll see you on the road out of Rawlins 😊
@@nickroden I think we got lucky with the Basin based on what I herd the winds & temps could have been.
@@socaljoe I agree. You're incredibly exposed out there. I'm just glad it didn't rain. I wouldn't want it any hotter though, maybe if I'd swapped Norway for southern California my heat tolerance would be a little different ;)
Great drone shots ,chapeau.

Very nice video..Thanks for sharing. I think I may have been a couple of days ahead of you as I missed the fires and smoke, though heard about them when I was further south. Thanks again, they are a superb record of your travels…

What is that bladder that you are using with your water filter at about 12:40?
@@oklahotb3217 it’s a CNOC 2 liter bag with I think the 28mm to work with the Sawyer filter
@socaljoe thank you! I've got a Sawyer squeeze I belive and the stock bags are a pain to fill up in the wild.
Yeah buddy, such a cool video. Fun to watch. Hope I bump into you out there.
The fallen trees are the result of fires. The fire burns off the bark, the trees die, eventually fall, the forest usually lets them lay, but often cuts them down to prevent them from becoming fuel for future fires.
We camped at that Mosquito Lake, and heard wolves that night. Roads are tough there above Pinedale.
Tip: instead of the Ortlieb quick release rack, Tumbleweed Bicycle chromoly rack or Tubus chromoly rack. The Revelate Designs Nano Panniers are nice, light, and the velcro keeps them attached. BUT, instead of the bottom Voile Strap which is fussy to get the right tension, I use a 4" piece of Velcro strap for the bottom attachment. That makes the bottom attachment easy and fast. Fuss free.
@Mike-vd2qt I like the velcro idea to secure the bottom of the bag. The Ortlieb rack was more in my price range since I had already spent a lot on the OMM set up. Plus the quick on/off was a major plus and used quite a bit on my tour. Thanks for watching and the suggestion
There are some tough days indeed sometimes !
I rode in America this fall, and the riding was good, but miles are too long and don’t go down as fast as kilometers, it’s frustrating :-) I keep enjoying your video, thank you!
What is the bell that you where referring to for bears??
@stevechance4422 I had a bell on the bike that activated when it hit a bump to hopefully alert a bear if I came across one and not startle them
What brand racks are you using?Did you have any kind of suspension (stem, seat post, fork)?Great video, thanks, planing on doing the tour divide this year. How was your ride overall?Have any sketchy close calls?
@stevechance4422 I have a separate video on my channel about my setup . The ride was amazing! Definitely bucket list material.
Hi I was on the GDMBR when you were also. Not sure if I had the pleasure of meeting you. Gus and Emily from Australia bailed me out big with a kevlar spoke loan. I would like to repay the favor if you know how I can reach out to them. I was wounded going into Pinedale where GEARED UP bike shop fixed me up. Shadow 👍🚴🏻😎💛✌️

We also camped at Lava Mountain Lodge, and I share your opinion of it. I think we were 1 day ahead of you and also found Union pass very hard and full of side by sides dusting us. We ended up camping at Mosquito Lake before taking a zero at Pinedale the next day.
