I've never had anything solar powered last more than five minutes. What I did at home was lift the bedroom floorboards and attach a spur onto the mains wiring to power my outside light.

this reminds me of a smoke alarm in the outside trash of a vacant rental across the street from me. it was going off for hours and my mom couldn't figure out where it was coming from, so I hunted it down and found it blaring in the bottom of the trash can on the side of the house that was in the middle of a turn. so I dug it out and smashed it with a hammer. I have been there before lol

If you want to test a photo eye during the day, put a piece of electrical tape over it

In my area if there's a lighting junction box visible in an apartment and it dosent have a switch leg in it you best believe there gonna force one hardwire smoke alarm. At least for my strict area one in the hallways leading to bedoors (within 10ft or something like that) and one per bedroom. Battery is fine as long as it has an inspection sticker updated yearly and the date in any smoke alarm is less than 5 years of manufacturing. As for beeping I don't get blind to the noise but if I touch it I own it so they get left and make a note to the property manager. As much as I'd like to change that battery for liability I cant plus it would cost me a fortune. As for new pigtails on newer smoke alarms when in doubt replace it with the new style. When we bill we assume the worst and its a replacement with remounting it so there's no confusion on can I do this or that. They care about paperwork so if it's labeled as such your both covered no one's fighting over 20 extra dollars.

Ha. I had the beeping at a rental flat a few years ago, but still heard it beeping after renewing the battery. I worked out it was the flat next door, who were too stupid to replace it. I knocked and asked if I could replace it.

For those stripped door screws, I use a wooden match. How always seemed to work pretty good and avoids making the screw go cock eyed.

Its funny with the ten year battery on smoke detectors cause the detectors themselves used to be recommended to change out every seven years. As Brian is telling his story I'm saying to myself - he should mount a smoke detector for laughs a foot above his fire extinguisher in his van. 😅

You know it’s been cold here in the Chicago area. I had a duct smoke detector go bad and it shut the heat off in the rooftop unit. So aggravating! The space was in the Doctors examination rooms. All 12 of them for days until I figured it out. 😮

Talking about making a mountain out of a molehill, it’s a dam smoke detector not the space shuttle. Most areas require smoke detectors hardwired in homes build after 2000 not every dwelling requires hardwired detectors. And yes if they’re hardwired they have to be in a parallel series if one goes off they all go off. Great analysis 👍👍

FYI. Those 10 year permanent batteries have AA batteries installed. DUMB. YOu just cant access them without ripping it apart.

In most towns and cities , They can't make you hardwire it, if there isn't already existing wiring to it, and/or when you have no access to run a wire such as an open ceiling like in a basement, attic, acoustical ceiling etc.

all my smoke detectors run on 110 volts. One goes off, and they all go off

This is where it's best to replace the old toilet 😆. I'd take parts for labor for easier work and to basically break even price wise. These people must know you by name like the people in the complexes I work at. I wish you could beat the cheap out of them. That door lock situation is bad for everyone and unsafe. When I get asked to do so I refuse. 4 times at that complex had the pass through handles someone twisted it off and used a wire to open the deadbolt no pliers. There was video on a ring camera. I know you love thoes defiant but they are not nearly as secure as a cheap 15 dollar kwickset. We put smart keys as replacements and it saves the owners money in the long run. If the owner dosent like the price too bad at 40 bucks a pop. My local ace hardware sells what I call crackhead screws 3 through 6in drywall screws that I use for damaged jams like that and they fit flush in hinges/strike plates. Keep some chop sticks in your bag from Chinese food they have a tamper on them perfect for fixing stripped out screw holes just break them off. Not here to roast your ways trying to offer genuine ideas and suggestions. I got contacted by the police the other day they were breaking down a door and it have them some trouble it took the gas cutoff saw to get in. Alls I did was put in 6in crackhead screws in the hinges strike plates ect all of 2 dollars worth.

You should invest in a thin borescope to check trap in toilet so you would not have to pull them
