HJC tend to feel smaller than other makes, I wear a L in HJC but medium in most others. You can of course change the internal padding for the perfect fit.

It’s irrelevant to talk about what the helmet is made of to explain how safe it is. Just refer to the safety standard that it confirms to.

Good choice, I went modular when replacing mine a few months back which was adventure style, when commuting into the city it was far too hot and stuffy over summer in the stop/start traffic between lights and slow filtering etc, going to be great next summer when once in the city I can just lift the front and get a bit of air. Had them in the past but a standard full face would be out of the question for me these days unless its specifically for weekend blasts or track days etc, cant beat the versatility of the modular

Steven was great! Don't worry we've all bought shit online. Defo try on before you buy for bike stuff especially helmets. Again, don't go for what suits the bike or graphics - the fit is THE most important thing - you don't need to co-ordinate with your bike. Hubby and I say great choice of helmet. Please be careful with it! I've never dropped one but hubby has dropped several - don't try and balance it on the bike seat or even put it on the shelf at the end of the supermarket check out - the two places he dropped his! lol

Brilliant salesman superb knowledge, I remember when I raced back in the dark ages a guy said to me if you have a ten bob head buy a ten bob helmet , if your heads worth a fiver buy a good helmet, because of the kite /ce marks etc its all about comfort. Regards Robert & Carolyn.

Good video a lot of information for new riders on helmets I have already have mine when I was getting fitted shoei neo tec 2 with intercom system it’s really expensive but you can’t put a price on your nugget

It's your money and you can do what you like with it, but you really don't have to spend anywhere near £600 on a helmet to get safety/comfort/quality.

My one piece of advice for helmets is to buy the lightest one you can afford. I've now got a carbon fibre helmet after riding for 30 years and i tell you what. It feels like I'm not wearing the helmet. So light, no neck ache at all.

I'm a similar age to you, and recently got back into biking after 17 years off. I went for the V-Strom 650 for the following reasons: 1. The 650 is plenty fast enough for UK roads. It handles superbly, almost to the point where it does it for you in the bends. 2. The engine is well known as being bullet proof, just don't miss out on a service. 3. It's cheap to service (as opposed to a well known German brand which empties your wallet viciously according to owners I've met) 4. It's very comfy, especially if you're no longer a youngster. 5. The dash is old school. Having driven many cars over the last 30 years, 'modern' screens get outdated really quickly. I worry about all these TFT screens on modern bikes that no doubt cannot be updated when tech moves on. The dash on the 650 V-Strom is really easy to use. I then have a Quad Lock for my phone so I can use nav which is up-to-date, on the basis I have to change my phone every couple of years. 6. Possibly most important, it was a bargain. However, we're all different, which is why life is so much fun.

Funny. I also went for a Schuberth as my first helmet last year. Flip helmets are also great for drinking on a quick stop. And you will appreciate the brighter color, once you're stuck in a traffic jam in Southern France with the sun cooking.

Im an arai man, everything else feels like a metal bucket! Its amazing how different they all are. Ps. BEST ADVICE I EVER GOT, ALWAYS ALWAYS WEAR EAR PLUGS, THE 3M ONES OR OXFORD ORANGE ARE GREAT.

When I saw you’d done a half hour video on helmets, I thought nooooo! But in actual fact, that was a really informative video. I’ve been biking a long time, and have been through the same process many times! We must support our local dealers. I also have a flip front helmet, and love the versatility they bring. Amazing on warm summer days. The only downside is that they are a bit heavy. Enjoy your biking adventure. I’ll follow with interest.

How surprise i was after first part when you chosen sport helmet, and then even more surprised how come and sense kicks in :) Have shubert c5 myself and love it :) My brother in law riding bmw sport bike and had sport helmet as well, until he tried out mine c5, next time a saw him was with schuberth C5 on his head :D They are quiet functional and looking good :) All the best and stay safe out there:)

You really don't need to spend £600 on a helmet. As long as it's got the correct sticker at the back they have all been tested at the same level. If it has the gold award sticker even better. A £50 helmet is just as safe as a £600 one it just depends how much money you want to pay. I change my helmet every 2-3 years due to wear so I just buy a budget one with the correct testing that is comfortable. Good luck and ride safe.

I have a full flip helmet. Mine is a Shark, but LS2 and Scorpion also do this style. The full flip helmets have a chin bar that flips over to the back, so that you are wearing an open-faced style.

I went to my local bike store and I looked at many helmets, then tried on 2. HJC i71 was my final choice, with my selection of color. Still very comfy with optional integrated Bluetooth intercom system. I had decided against the modular helmet system because I know myself and I would want to have the chin bar up more than I should.

All the older riders i know all use Schubert C5’s with the comms system installed. Even their wives wear them and they all chat amongst themselves as we ride. Probably talk about the husbands lol

Go for the vstrom, I have three vstroms 650,s from a 2005 to a 2007 have had zero problems with all three with a combined mileage of 246,000 kms. Super comfy, fast and rock reliable. You sill never regret it. Also have a fourth 650 vstrom that I keep n eastern USA that I rode from New York to Peru South America. It has 80,000 miles again not a problem. The BMW is garbage. The vstrom 650 is superior to the 1,000 by a lot. A couple just rode around the world

I ended up with the Arai Concept-XE in Modern Grey from a local supplier. Tried many and it was the best fit. Very happy with it.

I have the Schuberth C5 and it's by far the best I have ever had. Comfortable, quiet and brilliant comms system.
