Wow, some Alvis owner on this planet has every reason to be proud of that Bob. What a craftsman.

    Dear Chris,
I have seen both parts of this restoration so far. I dread to think what the proud owner paid for this beautiful limousine and who would have believed that such a presentable looking vehicle would be a veritable house of horrors beneath its layers of paint and filler - and wasn’t there some! I am also much heartened that you have young craftsman performing the quality of workmanship that I feared was in terminal decline. Clearly not. These young men are a credit to their profession, and to you.
You have already made reference to 400+ hours just for Part 2. When it is all finished, I hope you will tell us how many hours the completed assignment has taken.
The quality of workmanship will speak for itself as these videos will testify. I look forward to Part 3.

      Hello John,
Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment, it’s this kind of support that justifies the effort it takes in making these videos.
Indeed a surprise for the owner when in the face of it was a very respectable looking car but as we all know when all the material is removed we can see exactly what we are dealing with and all credit to the owner to agree with the work being done correctly knowing the final bill will most likely outweigh the current market value of the car, let’s be honest anyone who tried to restore any car with current market value in mind is restoring the car for all the wrong reasons..
In 37 years of working in the motor trade I’ve only ever had two apprentices that have proved to have “it” the hand eye coordination and the ability to see the end result before even starting it, Bobby the lad in the video is one of those two, very good with his hands and eyes and listens too. He’s like my second son 😊
Thanks again for the lovely comment and I hope to get part 3 up fairly soon.
      All the very best Chris

The standard of metalwork on display here is off the scale. Another great video !

Wow that’s incredible. If only all restoration could be carried out to that standard. Your craftsmen make it look straightforward.

I love to watch old cars being restored. I would love to learn how to use the English wheel and make a panel for a old classic. Just a quick question how long does it take to learn to make a panel for an old car I know it depends on the size and model but just a small panel as a little try out. Thank you

There’s no set time on that I’m afraid, a few hours of training would enable you to make very simple panels but large panels with lots going on can take years to perfect, even then it can go wrong if one isn’t paying attention 😬
It is incredibly satisfying when it’s going well though 😊😊
      I hope this helps ?
      All the best Chris

Top work Chris and Bob. Did you trim down re use the rear cover arches?

    • @prestigepaintworksltd
      @prestigepaintworksltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Steve,
yes we did. We let in new sections that had rotten on the cover arches then trimmed them back to let in as little as possible .
Butt welded not lapped of course.

Stunning work and so glad to see a geat car getting the attention it deserves! How many hours do you reckon the restoration will take - start to finish?
