The panel gaps are nothing short of perfection I know I own the car and every time I take it out people ask if I know hw lucky I am to drive a car of this standard

Someone should patent that milk crate as a specialist work tool lol, my dad a humble decorator bless him rest his soul had one in the boot of his car all his life used to call it his hop up it’s amazing how useful it was and the places you see people using them ! Seriously though this is some very specialist work brilliantly done guys well done I would personally love to do something like this myself 👍

If anyone had ever doubted why top quality bodywork and paintwork costs what it does, look no further than this series of videos.
What a good sport this customer has been to let you use his car to showcase your excellent services. I was a little puzzled that after 136 hours of mindboggling detailed body preparation for paint, he chose then to have the engine removed for a complete makeover under the bonnet. I doubt it will stop there. I will lay odds that the interior will receive a lot of extra attention too. How do I know? Because I have been there twice before with two separate restorations. Even the best preserved original interior can suddenly look tired when it goes back into what will effectively be a show-winning car.
In addition to your great content, this series is proving to be an education to someone like me who has promised himself an Alvis as a forthcoming retirement present. The car in this series was far far worse than it first appeared (aren’t they always?) and it is so helpful that you have told us how many man hours you have spent at each stage (including what you would normally expect for the levelling and filler prep). Having viewed your workmanship here, I would not want my car to go anywhere else and I hope that when this assignment is completed you will give us the benefit of a series of `before’ and `after’ shots. Your level of attention to detail deserves nothing less.
    Stunning work. Well done!
I look forward to Part 4.

      Hello John,
Thank you so much for your comment,
I have said on other people’s comments that it’s comments like this that make these videos worth taking the time and effort in making.
There are lots of ‘TH-camrs’ out there, many of them seriously good at their job that do a similar job but few show the process in its entirety and being transparent about the hours it has taken to carry out the work, most just show clips of the process here and there.
Thanks again for the kind words and support.
      All the very best Chris

I am sure the craftsmen who built these cars are looking down beaming with pride when the see the tireless work that is going into the works of art they created many moons ago.

The amount of prep work required for a top class paint job is always underestimated by the customer. This car will look stunning when completed.

When I have quoted for paintwork some people nearly fall over, they don't have a clue how much work goes into a top job.. Looks like you use Upol Fantastic ... same as me..

I do, I have been for years now and never have a problem with it, over the years I have tried most body fillers and to be fair Fantastic takes some beating as the results prove.
A lot of people have no idea of the hours it takes to produce a great job unfortunately and certainly don’t want to pay the right money for it but there are plenty that do know the difference of what it takes and don’t look at current market value of their car to justify the work.
      Cheers Chris

Would it not be easier to have the thing up on a ramp?

Your metalwork looked so good that I am surprised there was any need for "filler".
Or is what you are calling: "filler" in fact just a "high build primer"?

    • @prestigepaintworksltd
      @prestigepaintworksltd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul
It is in fact body filler, although the metalwork was finished to a high standard they more often than not will need filler before high build primer.

Why not apply an epoxy primer first before smoothing the bodywork with putty? Putty attracts moisture which can cause rust in the sheet metal. I also see that the employees work without gloves. Contact with bare metal or filler can cause salt crystals in the surface of the paint build-up!

      Hi Jo
I’ve never applied filler over epoxy in 40 years, I’ve always applied it direct to metal and putty can only attract moisture if moisture is evident, I haven’t had the misfortune of working in high humidity workshops so my process has always been safe.
My workshop has 3 dehumidifiers on timers that run through the night so humidity is really low. I use gloves when skimming up but not all of us do and when you’re blocking you end up with a layer of dust on your hands so the likelihood of leaving salt marks from finger tips is really low, I’ve never had a problem up till now but realise some shops are very humid so epoxy first would be a no brainier and some people also sweat a lot, where we are based I wouldn’t call tropical so the salt spots aren’t a problem.
      Thanks
