    From my personal experience, social skills and communication are very important in another way from what you have described even though what point you mention are very important. With the current tech industry is trending towards AI the abstraction layer is getting larger and in my opinion it is very important for a tester to understand the working of any software or tool by getting involved in the entire process from design to customer feedback and support for with the above skills are extremely important. Else testing will more trend towards black box testing which in my opinion is not good for a tester's career

    • @NicolaLindgren

      I like how you brought up AI. Learning how to work with AI (and being context-aware of it including knowing where we should utilise it and where human input is best), is going to be helpful for our careers for sure.

      As soon as things are stable enough so that you can get started and not count on things constantly changing. But I think you should think about how things are going to be automated from the started, and then incorporate that into your development straight away.

    I would also add to this that QA, in particular, benefit from being approachable. This is a positive for all team members usually, but QA in particular can be considered an "other" or "outsider" depending on the company culture. A great way to turn that around is by being a positive and helpful member of the team, regardless of QA responsibilities. This might mean doing something useful that's peripheral to what you do, like creating a helpful how-to doc about a tricky process, or a dashboard to help your team see helpful data about your work, or just striking up a conversation before a meeting to get to know your peers outside of the QA team a bit better. This can help make communication easier in the future, and helps others outside of the team bring issues to you that you may not have been able to catch or have had the perspective to even be aware of. I also believe that the chance to open up shows that you are multifaceted and not "just a tester" - many of us are so much more than that with varied and useful experience across many roles and teams, and have much insight to share once you get to know us.

    • @NicolaLindgren
      @NicolaLindgren 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like your ideas. I especially like the fact you highlighted this: "helps others outside of the team bring issues to you that you may not have been able to catch or have had the perspective to even be aware of". Software development teams can really benefit from outside perspectives, and having good relationships with others can show make people feel safe enough to communicate that feedback when they have something to share.

  • @NicolaLindgren
    @NicolaLindgren 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That's a good point about giving developers a heads up in advance that a bug is coming their way. The ones I have worked with, also appreciate the approach. (not having other communication can give a "throw over the fence" sort of vibe eh)

  • @99furyan
    @99furyan 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Really enjoyed your video, as a QA Engineer I strongly believe what you mentioned in the video is really important for a QA/Tester to make a difference, but like you mentioned, even in today's world there are still companies/teams that don't see the value QA/tester can bring to a team, they simply expect them to catch bugs before a release and nothing else. I think a great tester also discusses the issues found before raising them. What I do when testing a ticket and I find bugs, I usually drop a message to the Dev that was responsible for the ticket and quickly explain my findings, just so they are aware and not caught by surprise if there a relatively big number of issues or if it's a major issue, I find that Devs usually appreciate this approach

    "Test Frameworks are too powerful that even bad code still works fine" This statement is so true in my experience and with myself in my early automation days. Some times lines of code are given more importance that the logic and the test itself. I have reviewed tests which had 90 lines of code without a since Assert which make the test inaccurate. We know to code but don't know what is efficient code. Another fact that you mentioned wherein tester have to really work hard to be technical is also very true since we are(Maybe were) not taught programming skills when we are given training on testing. We are just taught to use libraries that already exists. More emphasis Should be give to give more technical training for testers. Would love to hear your thoughts on what the current/future career path for a tester is.
