I agree with your comment that some of the excursions are too long. I have not been on the Splendor, but have cruised on Regent 5 times. When you have multiple stops on an excursion, I was usually tired and ready to go back to the ship before the last visit on the excursion. Also, lunchtime is a problem. Morning excursions that start after 9AM, seldom get back before the main locations are closed.
I saw this ship moored at the Dockyard in Bermuda today, so I decided to take a look.
What cruise were you on when you saw Sirena? We’re boarding Prima today, heading towards the Dockyard.
Very informative. Thank you!
You’re very welcome - thanks for watching!
Stunning!
Great video! My first cruise on Insignia coming up soon. Thanks! 🚢🚢
Fantastic! Where are you headed?
Love HAL met my wife on the ship while working as a Bartender for five years . I recommend to people who are going on a cruise ❤ ❤
I love that story! What ship were you on?
They kept a table for ten empty for your family in Compass Rose? That's amazing!!
The Compass Rose crew went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Jorge (the maître’d who is now on Grandeur) was THE BEST!
I've work onboard when this ship was called Ocean Princess...
That's fantastic! Would love to know what it was like back then!
How much baggage can you take
There is no limit on baggage. You can take as much as you can handle/carry. FWIW, two suitcases per person fit fine under the bed.
This prima cruise is one of my best cruises ever. I think u guys going to enjoy it. Weather, itinerary, and room all great. NO kids and 80 percent full which is nice. Leaving barcelona now but talk soon.
Oh and queen mary was good too. Fish and chips and carbonara and pizza at that little gem outside buffet was great. Hope u didn't miss that
We're really looking forward to sailing on Prima next week. Looks like you'll be disembarking in NYC - perhaps we will see each other at the terminal! What's your favorite spot on the ship?
Fish and chips on QM2 was fantastic. We missed the pizza - guess we have to take another crossing! 😂😀
Yeah I did think about u guys when disbarking but was off a 9am. I guess my favorite area was behind the starbucks looking out to the ocean with a latte. U guys will love it. Alot of variety in food and specialty restaurants good. I was impressed with that ship.
@ we’re still figuring out our favorites spots, but we’ve been having a great time. Crew has been fantastic and we’ve been eating well. And the cruise director is one of the best we’ve ever had. No complaints so far.
We love HAL too … I agree … lovely ship ….
Thanks for sharing your love for HAL!
Will be on the Marina this November, will do all eleven...a couple of times!
Fantastic! Where are you off to in November?
I'm glad I watched this. I think you're the demographic HAL should go after (and Celebrity and Princess) and not what especially the latter two are going after. I agree about the size of the ship and also I think HAL tends not to expand their ship fleet as fast as others so you don't end up with as many of your best crew going to the newest vessels and taken away from the established (using this word because I hate the word "older") vessels. I agree with all points except that I don't think HAL's ships are that subdued in terms of decor color. Most new ships are "greige" or really taupe with subdued colors used in many public areas. HAL still has deeper colors on the Pinnacle class ships. And I see the Statendam class ships (of 1993) in the newest ships which keeps them current. The biggest point I agree with is the Music walk and Crow's nest. In fact, lounges. I live in the lounges, not in restaurants, not on my balcony (I don't even book them), not in the casino or spa or in pool areas, but in lounges. HAL has nice lounges. I actually like jazz and the American song book standards and that's in the Ocean Bar, a smaller venue to go to but still has a dance floor I believe. HAL still has some of that. I don't love all the specialty restaurants popping up on ships and HAL has just about the right amount at the right cost. I do believe that not all of the "younger" generation wants to eschew HAL's qualities. I used to love Celebrity but I absolutely don't like their Edge class ships. Princess was nice too and I don't like the direction of their Sphere ships. Why noisy lobbies (atria, foyers, plazas, whatever they all them)? I hope HAL can keep their qualities and the Music walk is a must to keep, especially BB King's, the best IMO venue in the walk. btw, my first cruise was on the Rotterdam V of 1959 and I was a boy.
Thanks so much for your comment, we really loved reading your insights. And we especially loved your framing of older ships as "established." (We may start using that term, if you do not mind.) We have 5 HAL cruises booked through 2026 and are curious about how much the line will change over the next 18 months. Hopefully, they will hold on to the remaining Music Walk venues they have and do not change/cut too dramatically - the switch from BB King's to Rolling Stone on Eurodam was extremely disappointing. Even though it was the same space, it didn't have the same vibe (and the music selections were often less than ideal). Just took a look at some photos of Rotterdam V,. Must have been an amazing ship to sail on, although we can't imagine you remember too much of that trip. Thanks again for taking time to comment, we really appreciate it!
@@callingallports Sure, by all means use the term "established" ships. The Rotterdam V lived as a Premier ship (renamed Rembrandt) for many years and I did at least get to tour it when it docked in NYC in the 1990s. Not much was changed, thankfully. I remembered some things and also I still have pictures from the sailing. I won't be surprised if the HAL ships start to change as well. The cruise industry execs run a business and businesses aren't that interested in tradition vs. maximizing revenue.
We were sad about dropping Lincoln Center Stage classical-ish music.
Really is disappointing!
We just returned from our cruise yesterday. We loved the specialty restaurants. We went to Red Ginger twice. The ship is lovely, and we had a wonderful time. Our second time on an Oceania ship and we would definitely go on another trip.
Thanks for sharing your positive review of Sirena! What was the first Oceania ship you were on?
We went on Nautica on a Mediterranean cruise in 2018. We had a great time.
Seems to me you want a champagne white glove experience and lively contemporary entertainment venues into the wee hours of the night. You can't be 60 and 25 interchangeably. C'mon...
It doesn’t need to be an either or. Regent needs to up their entertainment game. We don’t need to be up past midnight, we just need enjoy the entertainment on offer.
@callingallports i don't really Question the cruise operators. I'm sure they've hired out consulting companies to provide them with expert advice on these matters.
I sadly no longer love HAL. Been on Oosterdam and Nordam for 7 cruises. Last couple of cruises the "entertainment" was abysmal. So much so that it turned me completely off my beloved HAL. One night the "entertainment" in the main showroom was the staff talking about their jobs. !!!!!!! There were no production show nights by the singers and dancers putting on a wonderful show. They no longer put on those shows. Just boring dancers, magicians and not too good comedians. I feel quite sad about it as I did love and was loyal to HAL. Im a solo traveller, so quality night time entertainment is essential for me. Last cruise I only went to 3 nights in the main showroom and they were not even very exciting. Boo hoo. Also I noticed that the food and presentation in the dining room had gone way down as compared to previous 6 cruises.
The reality is most people that are plant based eaters are younger and they typically will not realize the error of their choice to be plant based until their body gets old enough to show the repercussions of that choice. So it makes sense that a luxury cruise focused on the older crowd can ditch the amusement rides and the plant based specialty menus.
Yes, but many luxury travelers are also very health-minded and like lighter, plant-based options. Oceania's Aquamar Kitchen is always packed, those eating there range from young children to septuagenarians, octogenarians. Some cruise lines like to embrace plant based options, other lines need work incorporating more diverse menus.
@@callingallports Yes, right or wrong health choice is not the reason ships need to offer more vegetarian options, they need to do it to keep the profits coming in if the population desires it.
You’re absolutely right. Just from an economics perspective it would be a win.
Great video and information! I We will have to wait until Regent improves in their ability to meet gluten free and non-dairy alternatives. We aren't willing to pay for a Regent ultra-luxury cruise that can't accommodate these dietary restrictions. We have taken premium lines that can accommodate and go out of their way to do so. We are going on Silversea Silver Nova in 2026 and we have high hopes for that experience. Thanks Again!
I've heard from some people who have sailed on Regent more recently that there are more special diet accommodations available. Still, Regent have some work to do. We found that Oceania, mainly Vista, is fantastic with their plant-based offerings, however. We're sure you will have a great cruise on Silver Nova - beautiful ship!
Thanks for the tour. My wife and I will also hope to enjoy stateroom 10061 starting tomorrow as we cruise the Mediterranean.
Fantastic! Let us know what you think! And if you have Olivera and Rey as your cabin stewards, you’ll be well taken care of!
The Crow's Nest is my favorite area of the HAL ships.
The Crow's Nest is fantastic, great place to sit and relax.
I'm going on sirena on December 11🎉🎉🎉🎉 I've had it booked for two and a half years, lol😂😂😂
Just looked up your itinerary, it’s a good one! We’ll be on Explora II at that time - seems like we’ll both be in St Lucia on the same day!
@callingallports OMG lol, that's funny. we're going zip lining that day in the forest, scared😬.yea,we like the intenary, we like the St. barts stop the most. lol Maybe we will c you guys lmao
A really great video. Going on our first Holland cruise 2025
Thank you so much, we really appreciate it! When and where are you going? And on what ship?
Thanks for teaching us some more about HAL cruises. We are excited to go on the Rotterdam in 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to the Dutch specialty food. So the Dutch cafe is on my radar daily. I have only recently learned about Orange Day and we have been on two Holland cruises. The formal dinners with beautiful dishes and table settings are pretty. I loved Eggs Benedict 6 ways in the buffet. I'm glad the hot dogs are Nathan brand even though I usually eat one or none on a cruise. Do they have movies under the stars at night? I haven't noticed that. I love live concerts on Princess along with movies so I'm guessing no. Is ice cream or gelato free on the ship, besides at meals? Thanks for the note about lectures on rhe country of Holland, or Netherlands. Which is correct? I love dressing up and formal nights are my favorite.
Thanks so much for your comment! Seems like you are getting ready to soon sail on Rotterdam! I'm not 100% certain about the movies, but I think there were a couple of screenings on our Alaska cruise. Unfortunately, I am not near my daily schedules to double check. As far as ice cream/gelato, there are only pay options at non-meal times. Not sure what nationality you are, but in the US, we tend to say Holland. But Holland is one region - so the Netherlands is technically correct. Have a great cruise!
We left our large hard sided luggage under the bed opened up, they fit fine. There was plenty of room to do that.
Good to know, thanks!
Great tour - Thanks! The lack of storage space, even compared to a balcony cabin on Nautica or Insignia is very disappointing! Would have to figure out some other hanging storage or some other solution for anything beyond one-week cruise. We are looking at a longer Oceania cruise and have come to the same conclusion, that the Concierge level is really not that great of a value. Great to see the larger bathroom, especially the shower stall.
Thanks for your comment! It is amazing to us that a newer ship has less storage, but the other perks are worth it. Curious, which cruise are you looking at?
We were all set to book yet another HAL cruise, full Panama Canal, but are now reconsidering with the news of BB King leaving HAL. Two of our favorites, Lincoln Center and the Culinary Arts center were already gone, now this. Pretty soon, only Trivia will be left. I think it is time for us to look for another cruise line. It hurts to walk away from three star status and shareholder credit but they have just taken too much away!
I hadn't heard about BBQ King theater leaving. I don't know anything about the other two. We have top Elite on Princess but love Holland America so much that we might do more with them. I like a Rolling Stones theme. We will find out in two weeks. Third HAL cruise. Best wishes!
We're very disappointed about many of the changes made to HAL ships, but we still love them overall. One reason why I would still book HAL for the Panama Canal is the access to the bow. We sailed on a luxury ship through the Panama Canal and were so disappointed we had to watch the locks through glass windows. We decided that after that cruise, the next time we would sail on Holland America.
Great video. Do they charge you extra for additional entries or desert?
Thanks! When we first dined at Morimoto, we were not charged for extra entrees nor desserts. The second time we dined there, we were too full to find out.
@callingallports thanks for the information.
We have a 19 night cruise booked in a veranda cabin on the Riviera next year. I am trying to decide if it’s worth the extra cost to change to a concierge cabin. Based on your video it sounds like you would upgrade on a longer voyage. Besides the cabin location I’d be interested to see if we would get priority reservations at the specialty restaurants.
We would definitely upgrade if we were on a longer sailing like yours. We just didn't have the time to spend enjoying the spa or getting full use of the laundry service. And yes, the priority reservations is a nice perk. Let us know what you decide!
@@callingallports Thanks for the advice, made the change this morning.
Thank you for this wonderful video! The ship is beautiful- looking forward to our trip in December.
Thank you so much! We'd love to hear what you think of Sirena after you sail!
Holland fans here! Nice video!!!
Thank you! ❤️ HAL!
Thanks for such a great video. HAL is our favorite cruise line too. We'll share this video for sure. We're headed on the Nieuw Amsterdam in 3 weeks and so looking forward to it. It will be our 3rd time on this ship. Soooo disappointed to hear that BB King's is no longer, that was our favourite! Such amazing musicians. The music walk is the AMAZING part of the cruise line, all portions of it, classical, rock, r & b, jazz and it will be such a loss if this diversity is not part of the HAL cruising experience. The talent on the ships were second to none. Hopefully, the talent is still there and 'rebranding' will showcase them even better 😊
Thank you so much! When we were on Eurodam in August, we felt a big difference in the music offerings. BB Kings is now Rolling Stone and it just didn't feel the same. The talent was still there, but we missed the music focus - the set lists were all over the place. We'll be on Nieuw Statendam in March and are looking forward to the separate venues once again. But we'll keep sailing the older HAL ships too, there are just too many positives on HAL's Signature class ships!
Does HAL provide gatherings for solo cruisers? I am considering a transatlantic cruise for April 2025.
Will have to go back and check our daily schedules, but we think there were solo gatherings. Will get back to you!
We were on Nieuw Statendam for three weeks in August, sailing to Iceland and Greenland, et al. BB King's was still very much happening at that time (August 2024).
Glad to hear BB King's still has a strong presence on the Pinnacle class ships. We'll be on Nieuw Statendam in March, although our itinerary isn't has fantastic as your Iceland and Greenland cruise. What was your favorite port?
@@callingallports While Iceland and Greenland were interesting, those were places my husband really wanted to see. I really enjoyed the Shetland Islands, Inverness and Edinburgh!
Was hoping for queen mary review before I go on her on the 25th. I'm sure it's coming.
We’ll see what we can do! What specifically are you looking for?
@callingallports no rush as I was on queen elizabeth once before so I have a good idea but appreciate the gesture for sure. I am taking prima back to nyc so big trip. Look forward to more of your videos.
We're on Prima in November for a sailing out of NY. Let us know your thoughts when you return!
Great video! I definitely see the charm of the R-class ships, and I like Oceania's interior design. I was surprised to find out that the promenade doesn't wrap all the way around. Is that the same for the other R-class ships in the fleet?
Thanks, Lesley! Not sure about the other R-class ships, but we're looking forward to finding out what Regatta's is like in May!
@@callingallports Ooooh, that sounds interesting! What is your itinerary?
Tokyo to Hong Kong - can’t wait!
@@callingallports That will be fantastic, and you are getting in Xiamen!
We're really pleased with the itinerary overall. We're really looking forward to all of the overnights on this sailing, lots of chances to take some dinnertime food tours!
I agree with everything you said but you left out my number one - the destinations! Holland America goes to many different places around the world. Yes they started the cruising to Alaska and they go the Caribbean but they have unique itineraries. In January of 2025 our Holland America cruise will focus on volcanoes and the Great Barrier Reef with ports in the Philippines,Papua New Guinea, Bali,Komodo, Australia, Indonesia and Singapore. Another of my booked cruises will spend10 days on the Amazon.
You are absolutely right - Holland America is wonderful for destinations. I guess that is why we have five future cruises booked with them. Although we are quite envious of your cruise in January - what a fantastic voyage!
Can’t wait to sail on this ship next spring.
We hope you love sailing on Sirena as much as we did. We’re are you headed next spring?
@@callingallports around the Iberian peninsula to Cornwall then Dublin.
Sounds fantastic!
Welcome back. Glad to see you are back doing your videos again.
Thank you so much! We really appreciate you waiting it out.
I love the elegance of this ship. Going to research where it sails. Great video. Very well done.
We really do love Sirena - where are you off to?
@@callingallports just got back from 14 day on Mediterranean aboard HAL Osterdam. Not going anywhere for a while, but always thinking ahead!
14 days on Holland America sounds pretty fantastic to us. Hope you had a great trip!
Great review. Informative. Good pace. Looks like a great, classy ship. The industry is losing these awesome experiences with the larger vessels. Thanks!!
Thank you so much, we really appreciate your kind words!
Thank you for this video. I just discovered your channel. We are going on our first Oceania cruise on Sirena soon. Really looking forward to it since it'll be our first Oceania Cruise.
Thank you so much! We love Sirena - although it’s an old ship, there is something special about it. We’re actually dropping our Sirena ship tour tomorrow morning! Where are you headed on Sirena?
@@callingallports we're going to be going to the Caribbean.
@@callingallports I chose Oceania cruises because it was a smaller ship, and we've done a lot of the larger ships. We are really looking forward to it-I'll look for your Sirena video in the next couple days!
Just booked an Alaska cruise tour on Nieuw Amsterdam in August 2025.. thanks for the video, it will be our first HAL cruise.
What a great itinerary for Nieuw Amsterdam! Alaska on HAL is second to none. We hope you love it!
Thanks for your video! I just booked our reservations after watching your review.
That’s wonderful, thank you! Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Thank for your review. We've been on Marina for 7 segments, about 75 nights. Have not been on Vista or Allure yet. Noise wasn't a problem on Marina so disappointing about Vista. Concierge on Marina was nice and talked to other guests there frequently. We actually used the spa frequently because much of our cruise time was in the extreme northern and southern climates. Question...no bath tub on Vista?
We didn’t have a bathtub in our cabin, but perhaps there is one in penthouse and above? Noise was not a problem for us on Vista, hoping the same when we sail on Allura next year. What is your favorite spot on Marina?
@@callingallportswe've had 2 cabins on Marina. Both had a tub and a shower. Neither were penthouse or suites. Being on the ship for longer cruises (31 and 45 days) we sampled pretty much the entire ship except the casino. We got to know many of the crew and they greeted us by name. So to answer your question, in a negative manner, the worse department on Marina is Destinations.
great video thanks ❤ we've just booked our first HAL cruise a 28 day Far East on Westerdam January 2026 and super excited 🎉 we're from the UK 🇬🇧
Thanks so much! 28 days in the Far East on a HAL cruise? Sounds fantastic! The hardest part is the wait, but it will be here soon enough!
Breathtaking ❤
Alaska is truly magical. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the video but leave out the music!
Going to be dining there next week. Got one of the last reservations. So excited to partake!
Fantastic! We were able to eat there again when on Eurodam last month and are happy to report it was another excellent dining experience. Please report back with your review!
Thinking of taking a Hollander America cruise in 2026. We’ve only been on Carnival, but the itinerary is better.
Which itinerary are you looking at? And what do you like to do when on board a ship? I may be able to provide a bit more perspective if I know just a bit more.
