      @@callingallports yes, we are doing the Mediterranean cruise. Leaving out of Athens, ending in Barcelona. We signed up for a number of excursions, but I may rethink some of those just to enjoy the ship. How formal are dinners? Do I need to bring a dress?

      @callingallports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That sounds like a fabulous itinerary. And to be honest, we were thrilled when one of our port days turned into a sea day, we were so excited to spend more time on Vista.
      As for the formality of the dinners, I always wore a dress but the dress was more on the formal side. While shorts, jeans, and sneakers are advised against, dress pants are perfectly fine. We don't love to dress up all that much, so the Vista dress code suited us just fine.

    We were on the 18-day Transatlantic cruise on Vista in late August 2023. I agree with everything you said and would volunteer that the specialty restaurants (except for Ember) were wonderful. We also enjoyed the two dance bands and the nightly entertainment, which was classy and well done. Also, the staff was uniformly friendly and professional. Oceania encourages you to share tables in the Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants, and we met some very well-traveled and educated fellow passengers, with whom we had stimulating conversations.

      That’s funny, as we are Viking and Oceania cruisers, and used to the classical music plus small scale song/dance and guest entertainers in their theaters. But in 3 weeks, we are taking a 10 night Beyond cruise just to test the Retreat experience, and check out the production shows, plus The Club and Eden. But I don’t think we will be thrilled with having 3,300 of our closest friends traveling along. On smaller ships you can make friends with dining or entertainment crew members, especially on longer voyages. Our 24 night b2b cruise in November on the Vista, much of which is transatlantic to Miami from Rome, costs nearly the same as what we paid for the Sky Suite on the Beyond. Only extra thing was a drinks package, but we don’t need the premium drinks. So we will be comparing soon!

      Have a great trip!We were on the beyond over Christmas/New Year’s. We were in a magic carpet suite which I loved, because it’s a bigger balcony with two loungers as well as chairs. lumanai , on the beyond is beautiful, as well as the retreat lounge. But to tell you the truth, equinox is my favorite celebrity ship. There are more places to sit and listen / dance to music. There is a very large sky lounge at the top of the ship. The club in the beyond is small and gets very crowded. Just wish they would refurbish the equinox as it was dated. We had a sunset sky suite on that ship, which was Great and we are already rebooked it. @@marias902

      Let's just say, we love Oceania despite the evening entertainment. The singers and dancing are talented and hard-working, but the material they are given does not match that found on bigger lines. But the small ship makes up for those minor shortcomings, you cannot beat the hospitality associated with small ships like Oceania.
      With that said, Andrew is about to embark on a transatlantic voyage on Celebrity Ascent in a few weeks. He'll be able to better answer your question after his voyage.

    I'd say you covered everything that would be on my list except one. If you're enjoying your cruise on Oceania, you should visit the Future Cruise Desk and make a future cruise deposit for a reduced amount as low as $250 per person. You don't even have to select a cruise itinerary at that time. You may also get an additional $100 of shipboard credit on your current cruise for each booking that you make onboard. You may also qualify for additional onboard savings up to $8,800. Just make sure you give Oceania your travel agent information when you make your cruise deposit. We sailed on Oceania Riviera twice in 2023. We will be on Marina this year after the May 2024 refurb, and we'll be on Vista in January 2025 for a Panama Canal full transit. We're also scheduled to be on Allura in Sept 2025.

    • @callingallports
      @callingallports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks a great way of putting it. We're Regent fans, too, but we are drawn more and more to Oceania with every cruise we take. The food is fantastic, the crew exceptional. And for us, we generally like to book our own flights and self-explore, so the airfare and excursion perks do not always make sense. Regent's luxury truly stands on its own, but we think it's worth giving Oceania a shot - the line gives you excellent return for the price you pay.

    • @rozie7586
      @rozie7586 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The free excursions and included alcohol offset any possible difference in price. I’ve sailed Oceania and Regent numerous times. Still think Oceania had the best food!!

      Yes, @@rozie7586 Oceania does have the best food! If you're not a big drinker, however, the extra costs to book with Regent may not make as much sense. We did the math after our last Oceania cruise and O still came in cheaper than Regent. With cruising getting more and more expensive (across all grades, from premium to luxury), it will be interesting to see what the price difference looks like in a year.

      @@callingallports Thanks. My better-half says I told you so! However, I wonder if a european med clientel is different than a caribb clientel?
      In Feb, 2024 we took a “family” cruise out of Port Canaveral on Royal Caribbean: Wonder of the Seas for two weeks. Not one thing went wrong for the whole time. The ship was full / 7000 guests + 2200 staff. Incredible operation through and through. The food in particular was very good. Quite surprising. Exec. chefs came from India and Jamaica! The food had that vibe: spice mixes I never had before - and surprisingly - I really enjoyed it and the family too! R/C has really nailed the family vibe with so many things for every age group to do. Our grandkids never got bored and we never got off the ship either. No need to. Amazing as compared to traditional approaches to cruising. Of course, Each has its place and we are looking forward to our bucket-list trip to the mediterranean soon on the Marina. Prior to the baltic on the Marina we did a repositioning cruise on the Riviera from Barcelona to Miami.

    How was the cabin noise in your state room on Vista on the Western Caribbean cruise? Gary Bembridge said it was a problem for him on that cruise. You were on that cruise as well.

      The noise we heard was fairly typical of other cruises we were on. Perhaps we were lucky with our neighbors, but we think our luck is likely due to a fire break between cabins. It seems we had a bit more insulation on one side of the cabin.

    The "Illy Crema" at Barista's is a must try on Oceania. It's in the little Slurpee type machine on the counter. So good.
    Oceania has announced that they will be getting rid of Illy in favor of their own coffee brand. I'm sure that the coffee will still be top notch, I'm just worried about losing the Illy Crema

      Interesting, we hadn't heard of the switch to an in-house coffee brand.
      We enjoyed the Illy Crema on our cruise - very tasty. And it was a very popular drink, too - the baristas often had to refresh it during our voyage.

      @@callingallportsI tried to post a link to the article, but TH-cam won't let me. Google "Frank Del Rio Three C's". A Cruise Industry News article will come up called "Oceania: Upper Premium Niche." Frank Jr discusses the three C's, one of which is coffee. I'm sure that Oceania will still have quality coffee, even if it isn't Illy. I'm just worried about my Illy Crema.
      Also, I actually think I preferred Riviera as opposed to Vista. I'll know more after our Marina cruise in June.

      @callingallports  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Warren. Great question. At this point, I think we would pick Oceania over Regent. Costs aside, we just feel there is a certain vibe and pace of Oceania that we really enjoy. And the way we've been traveling lately, we don't think we would take advantage of all the perks with a Regent all-inclusive sailing. We want to arrange our own travel, self-explore in ports, and we're moderate drinkers at meals. With that said, we would certainly sail on Regent again, we're not ruling it out. But we have two more cruises book on Oceania for 2025, with no Regent sailings planned in the future.

    Diana you were getting it right but Andrew, my friend, you need to work on it. It is not pronounced Oceana but OceanEEa, you must pronounce the "I".
