The Red Train JR-West Sleeper Train in Thailand
มุมมอง 8875 หลายเดือนก่อน
During periods of high demand, like during the Songkran festival or new year, the State Railway of Thailand sometimes put on a special trains. For example, Special No. 5/6 from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. For this they use a refurbished JR-West sleeper train, otherwise known as the Red Train. It is very rare to see this train running. So, as soon as I saw it announced I quickly bought a roundtrip ti...

Cab view of the Mae Nam freight line in Bangkok
มุมมอง 3.2K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a rare video showing the freight line that goes between Makkasan and Mae Nam Station. This is only used by cargo trains. Passenger trains don’t come down here. The video starts at Mae Nam and goes back to the main line at Makkasan.

This is my favourite sleeper train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. It arrives in the most beautiful area of Northern Thailand at sunrise. This is the Yom River just north of Den Chai Station.
Train Ride over Five Viaducts above Pasak Chonlasit Reservoir in Thailand
มุมมอง 4288 หลายเดือนก่อน
You can go along this route on Express No. 75 which goes between Bangkok and Nong Khai. However, I decided to take Local No. 439 from Kaeng Khoi Junction to Bua Yai Junction. This is because it’s less crowded and there are no assigned seats and so you can sit where you like. The best views are on the right for this section. I went from Bangkok to Kaeng Khoi Junction on Rapid No. 135 which cost ...
View from Cab of train passing Lamtakong Reservoir and Highspeed elevated tracks
มุมมอง 1.1K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is a video I shot last weekend from the cab of a diesel railcar. It is on the Northeastern Line as it passes Lamtakong Reservoir. What you will see at the start of the video are the pillars for the highspeed train to Nakhon Ratchasima. They start on the left and then cross over to the right and then skirt along the edge of the reservoir. When the water is at its highest level, the pillars ...

Go in and turn right and then you will see the lift on your right. Go up to the G floor. As you come out, you will see the main ticket office. For this video I turned right to show you the ticket machine to pay for parking. It is free for the first ...

Review of Train No.257 on the Death Railway
That was really awesome. I love cabviews.
Are the stations ready? My last trip there they were upgrading the stations to Kanchanaburi
Does it mean this kind of old train will no longer exist?
Watched this for a second time. Now reminds of a near death experience with the view from behind.
SRT: "If we can't suffocate them with dust let's kill them with diesel fumes". I've lived in Thailand 20 years and love most of being here, but this is yet another example of trying to do something "great" and failing miserably due to poor planning and no one really giving a sh*t if it actually works properly. Stopping the train in the middle of a long tunnel with the engines running, pouring out lethal fumes in a trapped situation could have gone disastrously wrong. The comedic element of some poor woman selling rotten boiled eggs for 20 baht, combined with the very antiquated train car interior, just sort of completes the picture. Nice try Thailand (State Railway of) but you're still falling way short of getting it right. I have a romantic love of train travel too, would way rather go 12 hours from Chiang Mai to Bangkok by open-window "Sprinter" than 55 minutes crammed inside an airplane, but at some point the SRT just demonstrate again and again how outdated their mentality is. The usual motto is, "Just good enough to get by - for now" because it's very Buddhist to live in the moment and not worry/plan too much about the future.
Travel with Thai train , Free! Lung Cancer💀
Millions of us must know quite a lot about this line without ever once travelled on it. Numerous times i have seen locos travelling next to the Expressway. Back in the 1920s, I even remember seeing an old steam loco graveyard on the sidings where this journey started
So no chance that it will be retained for slow-moving freight trains and local stopping trains then!?
Only for freight

Wow! After the first tunnel I thought zzz. That second tunnel went on for an eternity!!! 🎉❤😅🎉❤❤❤❤
The smoke that is coming out of the tunnel is intense.
@@destinationsroadslesstraveled Yes that was crazy how much dust was billowing out of the tunnel at the end. I was completely covered in dust.
Not smoke from the train engine itself? Mostly cement dust?
Yea, it's a cement dust from nearby TPI cement factory
The tunnels have now closed due to dust pollution and will reopen in 2 weeks 😢
I would love to experience the drivers cab. I did it once in Turkey, I was invited by the driver, my Husband was amused. He knew I was a Tom boy since my train spotting days in 1950s. Great experience!
hi, please provide information about Immigration checks in Nongkhai. Do we have to get off at NongKhai train station to go to nearby Immigration to get our passport stamped by Thai officials and then return to the Nongkhai train station to continue the train ride to Vientiane ? Is there sufficient time ? and can we leave our luggage on the train while we go to the nearby Immigration building ? thank you
There is immigration at train station on both sides

Great train. Going from where to where? Since 2022 really? Never seen operating yet!
This is after everyone went through immigration right?
Yes, immigration is at Nong Khai and Vientiane (Khamsavath) stations.
thanks for sharing Richard
I have the uneasy and justified feeling that the armchairs are not fixed to the floor, and possibly the sofas too. When I saw the wooden kitchen chairs standing free in the normal passenger carriage, I lost faith. A possible career as a rocket pilot is hiding there. From my point of view, a disaster in terms of safety.
Great footage sir.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Next time we're in Thailand, we definitely hope to ride this beautiful train. It's incredibly nice and luxurious. It's hard to believe that it's a second-hand carriage from Japan 🍒🍒🍒 Bye bye from @Travel-by-Train and @Travel.Highlights... 🙂 Cheers
Nice video :-) Wanna do a video together?
I have two trips on my list I want to do. #1 Bangkok to Singapore. SRT/KTM #2 Vientiane to Boten on the border with Yunnan, China. Laos-China Railway (LCR).
It definitely looks luxurious and thanks for the tour!😊
Will there any chance of red train to be running as ordinary train again?
Great stuff! Thank you for sharing. Can't wait for more videos. 🙏
Wow 😮
looking forward to more of such videos!
Thanks. I will do my best but it is very time consuming! Half a day to shoot and then a full day to edit and do the commentary.
Great video, a station I've spent many hours at too, but not all at once!
Thanks Pat. It was a very long morning. Hot too! It looks busy but sometimes it was an hour between trains.
Wonder is the train cold because normally the air cond is very cold
Yes, some carriages can be cold.
Great video plenty of useful information😁. Thank you for sharing it 🙏 Have a good day 🍒🍒🍒
Thanks very much for your kind words.
I also subscibed to you channel 😉
Thanks very much!
I love to watch nice landscape from the train. Your video is perfect... 👍 Have a nice day 🍒🍒🍒
Thailand is such a stunning country
Richard - what has happened to your voice?
Remember last year when I tried to watch this but it was 3 hours late leaving!
Yes I remember it well. I was on that train. We were all very hungry in the morning as there was no dining car. Luckily for us, SRT kind.y gave us a free boxed meal once we reached Lampang.
Am now 83 yrs old and would like to do it again!
Ahh, I remember my trip in 1974 doing overland trip Bangkok to Singapore. I was impressed with the overnight train BKK to Malaysian border. Very clean, good food comfortable. Have done it many times since.
Great! I'm grad to know recent condition of this blanch line , Many thanks from Japan.
