  • During periods of high demand, like during the Songkran festival or new year, the State Railway of Thailand sometimes put on a special trains. For example, Special No. 5/6 from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. For this they use a refurbished JR-West sleeper train, otherwise known as the Red Train. It is very rare to see this train running. So, as soon as I saw it announced I quickly bought a roundtrip ticket. This is my review of this unusual sleeper train. At least, unusual for Thailand.

Remember last year when I tried to watch this but it was 3 hours late leaving!

Yes I remember it well. I was on that train. We were all very hungry in the morning as there was no dining car. Luckily for us, SRT kind.y gave us a free boxed meal once we reached Lampang.

Will there any chance of red train to be running as ordinary train again?
