Why we use scythes instead of a brushcutter | MOWING MEADOWS E03: Lagmansro vs Styra
มุมมอง 126K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to another episode of Mowing Meadows where we take a look at two meadows that make it very clear why we use scythes instead of machines. A lot of people say we should be using brushcutters, weedwackers, clearing saws... but they fail to understand the natural environment where we work. We don't scythe to eliminate plants, we scythe so that they can live. By showing the different results...

Scything 300 m² Swedish Garden Meadow + Epic Fail! | How to Use a Scythe

I have a few private clients who hire me every year to mow parts of their garden or property that they keep as meadow. It’s a different kind of job compared to the big meadows we usually work on, but just as nice! This time, I’m at Else’s garden, which I have been mowing for 7 years now. The meadow is situated on a slope, there are trees, bushes, low-hanging branches and wire fencing - lot’s of...

Let’s try something new! This is my first time trying the competition size 120 cm Hartstahl blade - and it is HUGE! I start by testing out the right lay and hafting angle as well as the right snath and then we really put it to the test. Scythe was too short. You had to do that squat every time so essentially it was like "watch me do 2000 1/3 squat challenge" watch little old balkan ladies scything. Nice an easy. no wasted motion. swish swish
@@Tetradugenica1 l know it is possible to mow more upright. It's possible also with the snath I use in the video. Thing is that this is a worldrecord attempt. Here I am performing at a very high pace for 14 hours. Doing it with a more upright position an not bending knees I wouldn't have reach half the result. It's a little like argue that you sit much more comfortable in a modern SUV than in a formula 1 car. Therefore the SUV should be also faster.

Hello I have 2785 hectaries to mow if you interested
Mate in the old country that was a measure of a man
And this is why u dont make big farm lands at Medieval Dynasty, they have no time enough to mow it all in one day
This guy is the zero turn!
And people still think that life in the countryside is simple and easy.
Ive often pondered old written accounts of famous scything competitions held here in the USA. Especially the amounts claimed to be cut. Some competitions recorded the winner scything 6 acres in a day. Others 2 acres (about 1 hectare). These being old accounts, some going back pre 1800, I wonder what the grass type was, scythes used and lay of the land. My own land is very rough and hilly, I never could just cut loose and mow fast on flat land with a very long blade. It looks like fun though!
@@MrChickadee heard some really big numbers from old UK- competitions for big areas as well. I do not claim to be the world's strongest mower ever. Though after having this as profession in close to 20 years and beside that doing ultra marathons in pretty good paces and long distance cycling. I really doubt the results that people did one hectar in for example 6 hours. It's is not only faster than me. It's many times faster and that difference is not possible. It's like the super elite is maybe 30% faster than me in an ultra. (Then it's not even my dedicated sport). They are not 3 times faster.
This video has weirdly made me feel so at peace and fulfilled
