    Really liked the call back to that one guy and his scything.
    Few people leave a legacy as worthwhile as that.
    To his memory!

    Excellent video. Well-narrated, well-shot - a pleasure to watch and learn a little of past and present Swedish life.

    Great video, really enjoyed seeing another one with the whole team. I always enjoy the extra info you provide about an area you're working in, regarding the location and some history on it, the diversity of plants and insects etc, and of course, all of the benefits/advantages of scything!

    Great work with the team. i work in an urban envirment all the time. It's not just the silence that is great. you hear and see people and animals coming. You also don't spray stuff all around where it can hurth people or litter walkways.
    Love to see more of these.

    Helpful detail about straightening the damaged blade’s edge with the stone for on-site repairs!

    nice work. I bet it does feel really nice and different to mow in a city. I live in an old farm house on one of the largest historic estates in the Netherlands and I started using the scythe where and when ever I can this past year. I love it and I will not go back to the dark side...lol 😂 That said; I`m stunned I don`t know anyone in person who knows how to use a scythe and will actually use it... not even here on the estate...

    I loved the sound of the sharpening blades at 14:04 when you are all walking along, it is a familiar sound to scythers around the world. Also, how nice that you mention the older man and his lifelong efforts to help his community.

    Beautiful video. It is wonderful to see some places are bringing back scythe mowing.
    I see you all are very diligent in maintaining your blades. After how many years do they usually need to be replaced? Have you had to replace yours at all yet?

    • @slattergubben6702
      @slattergubben6702  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! Yes, as we work full days all summer, we do retire blades. But for a normal person maintaining just their own land, blades can last for decades. We peen and hone our blades regularly to keep them sharp, that makes our job a lot easier

    You make it look so easy I have a scythe but it doesn't have an edge on it how do you sharpen the initial edge? And what do you use to maintain sharpness?

    • @slattergubben6702

      I use peening scythes, so I peen using a hammer and a peening-jig (custom made, beginner friendly, available in our webshop :)) and the hone the blade with coarse and fine whetstones. There are several videos on both topics on my channel that you are welcome to watch! Look for peening and honing

    Love the videos big fan from Atl ga!! I have a question tho do you ever have to retire a scythe? Due to sharpening over the years or very bad damage? 😁

    • @slattergubben6702
      @slattergubben6702  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As we work professionally we do retire blades. If its a good and lucky blade it is just worm down to be too narrow by hundreds and hundreds cycles of peening and honing. That take many many years of professional mowing so for a more normal person blades last for generations. I regard the most common reason is else a crack that developes in the tang after long use that after a while simply devides the blade. Other reason is some blades simply are too thin from the factory making them get a wayvy or wobbling edge due to peening, even if peened correct. The worst cases is just to throw after maybe just 5 peenings. But rare.
      Incorrect freehandpeening is probably the most common way to waist a blade, but it does not happen in my team. We have a special designed peening-jig. I have done and seen many bad damages from stones or other hidden objects in the grass, but honestly in my team they have never been reason for retirement, only grinding and peening again. Said - we use the scythe as a sharp tool, not as a hockey club to tear of the grass with fierce and no control - if so a blade can die if encountering some unexpected in the grass.

I thank you for saving that rare bio diversity (Not being sarcastic at all) I want to try and replace my lawnmower with a quality scythe but I live in a sub-urban neighborhood so I’ll probably get A-LOT of funny looks haha.
