I think cybertool L is most effective one in the house. For carry, Ranger is must be max limit.
Mine stays by me 24/7 😂
Victorinox Deluxe tinker is better.
I Drive a truck for a living and add a metal H from a child's safety seat to keep the seat belt from slipping. Might help with your strap also.
@victorinox Most people miss the point of being in the ARMY and having a knife. If you are in the field for months or years on end, it is nice having something to cut your hair, clean your teeth, or cut your nails. A Swiss army knife is extremely useful if it has scissors, a nail file, a knife, a can opener, a toothpick, reamer and awl and hole punch for awl, and tweezers and toothpick. This should be the minimum of tools that a swill army knife should have. It is so frustrating seeing so many great knives missing one of these items. A corkscrew is also an item that might have been very useful in the past and if you ever tried to open a corked bottle without one, you would wish for one. I would also add a pin and a pen to my ideal Swiss army knife with a flathead and Philips screwdriver for any possible repairs. Is it too hard to ask for a "basic" Swiss army knife???
just be honest u haven't used a single tool on that.. let's double down.. u can't name 4 things uve cut wit ur spiderco other than packages..what foods do u cut with pocket knifes? great job describing ways u could use a Swiss champ for.
3:38 I think these protrusions are made to make it easier to open the tools with your fingernail. Just like Victorinox hooks. Because there is no place to make a notch on the sides. I don't really need those protrusions. Those parts can be removed with a file and flattened. The tightness can be adjusted by loosening the screw a little. 15:08 It can be solved by sticking a small magnet in between. I wish a higher quality version was made, but if so, there are not many alternatives in this size. It requires some modification. The scissors are also made upside down to fit. So it is more efficient with the left hand. But you have to press the right hand in the opposite direction than you normally do. I wish it had at least a D2 steel pocket knife in the droppoint style, scissors as high quality as Victorinox, and higher quality materials and workmanship, but unfortunately it doesn't. (Google translate)
16:50 the compact is “overpriced” because it is mostly hand assembled, unlike most other knives which are almost 100% machined assembled and very very little human intervention is required. Do not forget we are talking about Switzerland. People are payed well for hand labour. Very very well, in fact.
Mine required over a month long break-in period.. The pocket clip is already beginning to wobble as reported by many others.. Im luke warm to this knife.
I don't think the Compact is over priced at all... 91 mm plus scales cost around 17.99$; large pen cost 3.79$; Climber cost 45$. Total before shipping: 66.78$ Compact : 59$ The Compact is reasonably priced. The best phillips offered by victorinox is the inline found on the rambler. So if we are really concerened about a phillips then the Rambler is a must own. I also own an explorer with an inline phillips, and it is subpar compared to the one on the Rambler. Attempted to tighten screw on a door knob with the explorer, and the explorer was just too bulky to properly tighten, but the Rambler worked like a charm.
I carry one every day and use it a lot! But Im also 210 pounds.......
kinda pointless video really
yes, yes you do.
It's better to have the tool and not need it than need it and not have it. That is why I made the Swisschamp my EDC. I do agree that it's a bit large for shorts, and for that an Explorer would be my tool of choice. I just have to get one of the same vintage as my father's, since I refuse to carry his on my person.
Thanks, I haven't used the digest function yet so this is very helpful. It's good to understand the difference between Vector and Original.
Climber is great for a tri-layers .hook, scissors.. . Explorer (quadri layers) is great too (climber+ magni-lens + phillips screwdriver in a compact ssize. 3 or 4 layers dont change handgip and maniability
Fantastic Info, thanks for sharing.
Not micarta! G10.
you would probably love the SAK Yeoman but not the price for 1 now because they have long been retired for decades. It's a Compact with an extra layer with the phillips and magnifying glass. Stupidly over priced. $200-ish for 1.
CLIMBER WITH PLUS SCALES is best for edc
For me, the Explorer is the most underrated SAK, and my go-to EDC. It has an in-line Philips (so much better than the T-Philips IMO), scissors, two blades, the opening layer (better than the combo tool IMO), and even the corkscrew and awl regularly come in handy! I sometimes switch to my Compact when wearing shorts, but I’m surprised that not more people talk about the Explorer. I’ve even used its magnifying glass to read tiny text on labels.
This was great! Thank you! Anyway to do an updated version?
When my friends tell me "You always carry it, but you never use it!", I reply "I haven't needed it. Isn't that wonderful!".
My Climber is nice, but I prefer the Huntsman. My current EDC is the Alox Farmer X.
@6:18 I disagree; the compact is not "very overpriced" it has plus scales and costs so much because it is hand-assembled, and it has the unique nail-file on the parcel hook (not found on any other SAK); installing the pin and pen is not automated, hence, these are more expensive to produce as is the Compact parcel hook. All plus-scale knives cost more. How much would you pay for a hand-assembled knife? @12:40 noted above Victorinox can't add the pin to knives that are machine produced that's why so few come with it. (Watch Jon Gadget's video of his Victorinox factory tour. Hand assembly is explained @4:40 through @5:48.) If you want to add a pin get a Dressmakers pin #22 size:20 1-1/4" long in Nickel-plated steel. For me, the Compact is the knife I carry just going around town. I have many SAKs to choose from... To each his own. For me, I love the compact, it was worth $59 to me and was not a rip-off owing to the unique features in a very compact-carry knife.
Great video. Where can i get that exact strap? Love the magnet
It's a good one.
This is one of those you have to mod to get the most out of. It's so darn close to being there, but it just falls short in stock form.
Its a tool box awesome 😎😎
I have EDC the Swiss champ really cool and practical knife droped it in my pocket and away it goes.
Most beer/lager bottles in Europe have serrated Crown Corks bottle caps. Which are much easier and safer to open with a bottle cap opener.
1 minute into the video and it's already a "I'm not saying anything, I'm not here to argue, I'm not here to be right"... Okay 🙂I'm not here to watch this video, I'm not here to comment, I'm not here to win, I'm here just to leave this comment and leave the video @00:50, bye.
WAY TOO BIG. No thanks. I have a Climber as my EDC. To be it's all about the weight. Anything bigger than a three layer in Victorinox just seems like too much to carry in my pocket. And if I want something to throw in a pouch, then I would rather have something more like a Leatherman.
The Hide & Drink (H&D) leather belt pouch is perfect for the SwissChamp and it's really cheap on Amzn. I like to carry that and a mini champ, for complimentary coverage, in a zippered leather pouch with two knife/flashlight holding bands H&D also makes in my front pocket. I usually don't need most of the tools on the two champs, but man, when I do need a rare tool it's so much better to have them than not.
unless you live in a chateu in the french countryside the climber makes no sense when the super tinker replaces the cork screw for a philips
This seems like the perfect sling bag or car knife. If you are wearing pants and a belt then maybe pocket carry but tossing it in my gym shorts to head to the grocery store? Probably not
A while back, I had a victorianox that had no blade. I also believe they do some TSA safe products with no blade.
I like long videos!
Compact new in canada is about 75$ 🤬
Have you really used the prybar? Was is not worth the cost or time?
Dr Breens private reserve water
You really didn't do your homework on this tool. The scissors may not impress you because they are small, but they cut great, yes they cut paracord if you know how. You want a 4 inch blade on a 3 inch tool? You really need to know what your talking about before you share your opinions. It hasn't even occurred to you the options a quarter inch driver affords you. The gears on the pliers double the force of the grip.
The ranger is another under-appreciated model... it's much smaller and more compact than a champ, but has the saw and the file, as well as all of the back tools that the champ has... Good camping knife. (5 layer design)... (vs 8 on the champ, and 2 of those extra 3 layers are very thick (the pliers and 3d screwdriver layers)) looks like 7 because of the dividers, but I count the fish scaler layer as the 8th layer.
Totally agree its literally 2mm thicker then the huntsman 21g heavier but its worth having that file/nail clleaner/metal saw and chisel.
if you like the 2d phillips on the climber, the classic sd screwdriver I believe also does 2d phillips. (don't get me wrong, I like the 91mm models myself cause I like the larger tools)
The best phillips driver Victorinox makes is surprisingly on the Rambler. If you really wanted to, you can carry both the Climber & the Rambler without any noticeable difference. As for a pair of pliers, the 4 inch xs cobra from Knipex comfortably fits inside a pair of jean’s small pocket (the pocket above the right-side pocket).
I have pocket carried my Swiss Champ nearly every day since I bought it new in 1985. It has saved my bacon many many times !
How to the magnets affect the mag strips on your cards?
Thank you for sharing this EDC
Great set up man. And that Parker MP is beautiful. Love those as an edc!
The Swiss Champ is a fine tool but it's a brick, better suited to a desk drawer than an on person carry. I generally carry an Explorer and a Leatherman Sidekick. Is it more weight than a Champ? Yes. But that weight is distributed between 2 pockets, not one. I decided a long time ago that that trying to find ONE tool that does everything you want is fruitless.
