Reducer doesn’t let in more light. It focusses the light kind of like a magnifying glass in the sun, allowing you to burn ants.
Great content as always my friend, always love seeing like minded people get together and enjoy the night sky. Great final result on the sisters!
Thanks so much dude, glad you enjoyed it👊🏼👊🏼
Great video and a great image of the Pleiades. Keep up the good work
Awesome dude! This makes me so happy to image tomorrow, you should try to do an image of Barnard 30 this winter, it’s near the top of Orion and is very underrated for its beauty. It has aspects of dark dust and Ha highlights and I think it would be a fun done to do narrowband + broadband. Right now I’m working on a deep integration of it in LRGB and SHO (or well I’m gonna see if there’s any S and O but idk). 😊
I looked into it last night, looks like a tough shot! I can probably pull it off at a dark sky site, not sure if I can do it broadband with my bortle 7 skies sadly..
@@astrotan dude I’m in a bortle 7 and it’s actually been going good so far! With the right processing techniques my 6h of broadband turned out well. Im getting more this week as it still wasn’t as much as I would have hoped for. The Ha adds a lot of signal to the broadband even though the broadband is rough.
Hi Tanner great video, nice to see you and Ryan enjoying this fantastic hobby great final image

Thank you man! We had a blast👊🏼
I actually thought you guys were brothers =D i really enjoy both of your channels, keep up the good work!
People have said we look similar 😂 thanks dude!
longtime Astrotan Fan here- great video, great humor, and outstanding shots at the end. Keep it up, Astrotan and Oryan
Awsome video! Was wondering where did you get the music from? Especially what's the first one called?
I get all my music from epidemic sound! The first song is called On My Way by Aiyo. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice Pleiades shot!
Thanks dude!👊🏼
Astrotan!!! AWESOME video!! I love seeing how much fun you and Ryan have together. What a wonderful friendship and partnership you have. Great job, guys!
“I’m broke” 😂😭me too brother me too
1k subs is actually criminal for the quality of your videos
I appreciate that dude! We’re slowly climbing 📈
Great video! I just got this scope. I've been using an 8" SCT for a number of years, but now I want to try some wider fields with a smaller OTA. I'm surprised someone so young has this much grasp of the hobby! (don't be offended) It seems that most of the "experts" out there are middle age to older guys. How old are you? I'm 72!
Thanks for the review, bought for Sv550 80mm with field flattener.
Great review!
I have Sv503 80ed is it worth it upgrade to Sv550 122
Totally! Just know that it’s pretty expensive!
Great vid..!! I bought one of these and agree with most of your comments. The rotator actually came as part of my scope, same as my old 503. Is it possible that it is only that demo unit that has a missing rotator fitting?
Thank you dude! I appreciate it! And yes, for some odd reason the loaner one did not come with the rotator, which was strange, but I could’ve rotated the entire telescope to rotate it, can’t believe I didn’t think of that! I’ve seen the rotator online, it looks great!
The rotator on my SV550 is not the SV210 with the calibration marks on it, that is a separate purchase if you need the calibration scale. It is the same one as my old (and your) SV503 with the 3 recessed brass screws and a knob for locking it in position. Still my best purchase ever with great results despite the bortle 6 in metro Perth, Western Australia.
I have a short tube 80.
Great video, AstroTan! Excellent review of the equipment and beautiful images. Keep up the great work!
What is the focal length and diameter bud?
484mm at 80mm
Good video, nice flow and pacing, you speak well, plus the sound and music is excellent :)
I appreciate that! I’m glad you enjoyed the video🎉
The Golden Hour makes your videos look great always!
i recommend the Askar 71f personally over this
Incredible review! That telescope is awesome, and so are your pictures! Keep up the good work!
I sent a message as Antonio Serpecolio HI i want to show you some images please reach out to me !
OMG, Game Changer!!!! WoW!!!!!! 😮😮😮😮😮😮 😂
Nice video Tanner, I take it you'll be save for a new scope soon then my friend
Is that amp glow from your player one camera? 11:38/14:56
Sure is! It has an IMX 294 sensor, but it doesn’t bother me because I made a dark library a while back
I noticed the Headlands sticker on your doublet scope. Are you from Michigan?
I am not from Michigan, that’s a sticker from when I went to headlands this summer!
Very timely. I was looking at Svboney scopes online over the weekend. Free tips: Practice holding your hands/arms still while you are showing us something and show it for more than a second. Just imagine you are speaking to a friend right in front of you and not making a rap video. Yes, you are lovely, but seeing the object of the video instead of your face while you speak would be a good step. There is no way to tell from the first few minutes if the entire video will be you talking to the camera and people will bail out early. Look at where you take it inside and are blocking the view with your waving around hand! What the heck is that? Would you do that in my face if I was sitting there with you? TH-cam is a one-on-one medium. Content creators who treat it that way make the best material. Just sayin 😁
Thanks for the tips dude, greatly appreciated, but I do have a couple things: in terms of me not showing my face, during the duration of the middle of the video I do not show my face because the focus is on the telescope and not my face. I’m still clearly heard, and the focus should be shifted on the product that I’m reviewing. In terms of when I’m inside, I do agree, the angles at which I have things are not great, my camera lens is sadly too big with my crop sensor camera to get a full view along with my desk being too small to fit the camera on there, will have to experiment with some different angles :)
@@astrotan Yes, I was suggesting less face, more telescope :-) Few people can pull off the idiot look-at-me grin of Smarter Every Day.
To understand meaning of”absolutely amazing”, you need to compare your scope with proper ones. For example, AP, Tak or TEC.
I would gladly say Svbony has made a very solid telescope! I’ve used and seen other scopes potential on the field before but haven’t used my own gear for them, and most people who’ve had Svbony’s triplet APO design would say it fits very well in the same field and category.
@@astrotan Really? I will not pay even $1 for it.
I'd buy that for a dollar. Then chuck it in the proper bin ;)
@@anata5127don’t hate on svbony til you have your own pics with it 🤷♂️ don’t set your standards high without some good processing
@@Chiclets1I don’t see anyone else taking these pictures interested to see yours😅
Nice review, and great photo.
Glad you enjoyed it dude!
Dang my jaw dropped when I saw the final image! Awesome video as always and clear skies
To rotate your image, loosen the (2) retainer screws and rotate the telescope. Tighten up your retainer rings once you have rotated the scope.
Now that I’m thinking about it, wow that’s a great idea. I never thought of it like that😅thank you for the tip!
Sure, you can do that, but a dedicated rotator with indexing does make multi night mosaic shots easier and more likely to be able to be stacked successfully in software.
Dah!
That is amazing how clear the Galaxy came out. Great job. Take care. I can't wait to see what your next shot will entail.
I'm trying to learn about what space actually looks like I'm curious if the red color is added to the photo or is it its natural look?
It’s a mix of both. To our eyes, we can’t see much, just faint glows of everything. But to cameras, they can see everything. The color in here is in fact real but I did saturate the color to make it pop more
Great video.
Im looking to buy the 102mm version of this and im new to astrophotography and want to get something decent for my first purchase. This set up youre running seems to fit my budget and is good for what i am trying to accomplish. A few questions, when finding a tripod for this set up, do i need to buy a mount for it too? I see you have listed that your using the GEM28 and those seem to be quite pricey. Are there any other options for me to get started and maybe upgrade down the line? Also for the UV/IR cut filter, do you use the 2 inch or 1.25 inch. thank you and excuse me for my ignorance while trying to wrap my head around what i should purchase.
It’s no worries man! And yes, for astrophotography, you’ll need a tracking mount. The sad thing about it is that there’s no way of getting out of “cheap” astrophotography mounts, they’re all pretty pricey but nothing would be possible without them. A good starter mount that is amazing is the skywatcher eqm-35 pro, it’s just under $800 I believe! A good thing to note is that you need to make sure you know how much your setup will weigh on top so you can decide what tripod to use that’ll fit its weight capacity. My setup on top of my mount is roughly 17 pounds which is perfect for my GEM28 as it holds 28lbs. I also use the 2’ UV/IR Cut filter, it’s much more accessible and you can use it for a ton of changes as you excel in your astrophotography journey, just more convenient :) i hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need any advice on a beginner setup, I have some things in mind :) clear skies!
@@astrotan so ended up going with the SV503 ED 80mm, I ordered the SV193 2 inch .08X field flattener, the SV198mini 50mm finder scope, the UHC filter, UV/IR filter, a lens heater, the SV211 dovetail base, and i actually just ordered the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTI mount kit. I dont know if this was a mistake but i ordered the 1.25 inch lenses rather than the 2 inch lenses, are those compatible with the field flattener or did i make a mistake? Also bought a few extra things for just planetary/moon observing but ill keep it focused on astrophotography for now. What do you think of this setup, any issues with it? Thanks for your help man, really appreciate it!
@@AdotLarcenyI think it’s a great setup, it will get you very far! There’s a couple minor concerts though: I’m not sure what the total weight of your setup on top of the GTI will be, but it holds 11lbs total on top of it, but you can probably push it a little more and it should be fine. In terms of the field flattener and lens topic, I’ve never used 1.25 lenses with the field flattener, but if you’re doing just visual with the lenses you won’t need the field flattener anyway, that’s really for the astrophotography part so you should be all good! Can’t wait to see what you do!
That picture, though!! Amazing!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Great work!! I have 160 images of the 🧠 at 5 minutes in HSO I just need to process . Also I have been mapping the whole Cygnus using the asiair plus and a zwoasi533mmpro. The asiair plus is the iPhone of astrophotography!! Clear skies
Awesome stuff dude! 🤝
Great video, that image is amazing.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed 🤝
Nice video and image Tanner, what are you planning on studying next year at college? Hope the fall brings you clear skies
I’m planning on going into business, and where I’m looking at going to college they have a big astronomy program!
Great video, and the photo at the end was PHENOMENAL!!! Nice job, Astrotan!
Gas Stove! Lucky dog...
I’m allergic to eggs…but great video!! 😂❤ Headlands is AWESOME!!
It looks like a little brain in outer space!
Amazing as always!
Thanks dude glad you like it🙏
You are very skilled but may I add some constructive criticism? Don't overdo your saturation, it's a slippery slope that leads (in this case) to a very busy image...at first glance almost didn't realise i was looking at the Orion Nebula... Sometimes less is more.
wow how do you afford all of this
To put it simply, time. It took me about 3 years to achieve my current setup and knowledge.
