Cabrinha X3 Wing review
Cabrinha launched the new X3 wing this fall, and after a lot of people have been asking what has changed since the X2, and the differences between the Mantis wing and X3, Gwen Let and I decided to put together this video with riding shot in Fort Pierce, FL.
It is worth noting the day we shot this the conditions were boarder line terrible. Light wind that was almost dead onshore, with very little, to no breaking wave. Goes to show how winging can make a great day out of what would have been a down day in the past!

No talking, all riding this time. Hard to beat summer sessions in Cape Hatteras. While filming to make the How to Boost instructional series a came away with some clips that really just sums up what I love about kiteboarding. No technical tricks just pure freeriding exploring Hatteras by kite. Find me here as well: evannetsch EvanNetsch Additional Shots and Cover by:...
How to Jump BIGGER Part II
มุมมอง 20K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we have Part II of how to Jump Bigger where we talk about some more advanced and less conventional kite flying techniques while in the air to help your hang time and go even bigger and most importantly come down softly or land with more or less speed. If you have not seen Part I I recommend going back and watching this first as this breaks down the 3 main aspects of jumping and how to...
How to Jump BIGGER Part I
มุมมอง 66K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week I am changing the pace up up from the Strapless Kitesurfing videos to some standard kiteboarding on a twin tip. I've been riding for 20 years and between all the disciplines, (now even including winging) it is still very hard to beat a good full power session just boosting as big as possible and doing loops. Boosting is the roots of kiting and even after decades of riding it is imposs...
What's better? Wax vs Deck Pad
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm always getting asked if I like wax or a deck pad better (for front foot traction) What I use or prefer and the answer isn't as simple as just one or the other as both have their pro's and con's. So which is better for you? Find out what I think the pro's and con's of Wax vs deckpad for Kiteboarding/Kitesurfing! New video's will launch every Tuesday at 9am! Next week: How to Boost Big. How to: Frontroll 360 shuvit
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The frontroll 360 shuvit combines the last two tricks we covered in this video series into one move. The challenge in this trick is the amount of variables. You will need to have your front roll perfectly controlled with the board stuck firmly to your feet to have the control to push it into the shuvit at just the right time as you're spotting your landing. With more height and speed the shuvit...
How to: 360 shuvit
มุมมอง 4.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The 360 shuvit is one of those tricks that I didn't like for a long time until I really got it figured out. I felt like it was just a good way to slice my foot on a fin, but after getting comfortable spinning the board confidently it is a go to in lighter winder and is a really smooth feeling trick when stuck with just a little more height off the water. I highly recommend learning in lighter w...
How to: Strapless Frontroll
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Strapless Frontroll for many people is on of the benchmark kitesurfing tricks, not only because it is a significant step up in difficulty, but because it is a gateway to so many other tricks and rotations. Getting confident with front rolls, and any rotation kiteboarding on a twin tip is step number one for sure. For myself, it took years of work and hundreds of attempts before I had it con...
How to: Strapless Backroll
มุมมอง 12K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we are covering how to do a strapless backroll. As we get into the harder strapless kiteboarding tricks there are certainly more styles and different ways to do the same trick, but I want to share what worked best for myself. With a backroll in particular I also find that it helps to find a small but steeper wave to help you initiate your momentum and spin. While mostly shown here in ...
How to: Frontside air reverse
มุมมอง 3.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we are covering a Toeside Frontside 180 or in surfing terms and Air Reverse which is the natural progression from your regular toeside or frontside air. Easiest learned in flat water then taken to the waves ideally in onshore wind conditions. Kiting in the waves can be like cheating and I would say this is the biggest cheater trick of all, with a little help form the kite this trick i...
How to: Frontside / Toeside Air
มุมมอง 5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we are taking the next step in your strapless kitesurfing with a toeside or frontside air. While this certainly is a more more challenging way to jump in flat water this is something that is best applied to a wave and as a frontside air. In flat water you will be loading off of your toe side edge which is exactly how you will load up for and air while riding frontside (facing the wave...
How to: Frontside and Backside 180
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we are covering our first "air" trick, which is a simple 180. While it may sound basic it is something that will quickly be applied to more tricks as you get comfortable rotating and understanding how you can keep the wind correctly placed on the bottom of you board as you spin. Your first 180's can quickly turn into a 360 to start helping to build muscle memory for a complete rotatio...
How to: Strapless Air
มุมมอง 26K2 ปีที่แล้ว
This week we are taking the next step in your strapless kitesurfing and going to the air. In the following weeks we will cover a many different air tricks but the first is of course a solid foundation of a simple strapless air. Being a lot more technically challenging than your basic jump kiteboarding, here is my best attempt sharing a few tips to help keep the board glued to your feet! New vid...

Welcome to Cape Hatteras

I've always felt very lucky to grow up in Cape Hatteras and call the Outer Banks home. Hi Peter, In this video it is a 5'6" x 19"(I think...it's been awhile). The some width here will help a lot more than lengh in general if you are looking for stability. Not sure why I was riding that board this day though, usually I'm on a 5'3"x18.5" in flat water.

Hi Evan. Do you ever use or recommend using a leash ever wave riding?

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes, depending on the conditions. Often in offshore winds if your board will washes in (in being upwind upwind, especially into rocks/reef it can be almost necessary). In side/side on wind I try to avoid using a leash as it is much more dangerous with the bounce back of the board. Offshore winds you still need to be very carful not to get pulled by the kite too hard to have the board whip back at you but generally your kite will pull you out and your board will be behind you so it will not get washed into you from a wave while in onshore wind your board will end up outside of you and then a wave can easily push it into you. It's worth practicing in flat water to get used to it and using a helmet as it can lead to a bad injury. I've personally had some close calls due to a leash...

Hey great vid, my other question is how to stay riding when hopping over big non breaking waves out the back, like one of my main issues is that i can’t seem to edge upwind while also going over the waves because every time i pass one I tumble

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey Sarah, yes this can be hard especially in side or side off wind as going over the wave can create more line tension especially when edging and therefore lift pulling you off the board. Try to ride very slow and follow the wave up with the kite as you ride up it so your kite is high at the peak and then dive it again as you drop over the back. Depending on the wind direction relative to the wave you may need to do a but of a downwind swerve as you ride over it to keep from getting lifted off your board. Keeping the kite generally high and going slow is key.

awesome tips. I didn't get it at first, before trying a surf board, after using one a few times now, this made a ton more sense. I had my Blackfoot way too locked in, in the back of the board and was struggling to go upwind. Thinking about it now, it makes sense, as I was not able to engage the edge effectively. Thanks for these awesome tips. Eager to try out

I watched this carefully and started working on it yesterday. I got the take off right, start spinning the board, do a full rotation and land on my feet in the right stance but the board is not under my feet anymore😆. I watched again and I think I lose the board when i'm back to the wind. I need to point my toes down more as you explain around 5:30. This is what I love about your videos, if you pay attention to the details it's all there. Thanks again

thanks for the videos Evan!! (much better than the duotone ones!! :) in this trick my board doesn't fly away but instead comes to my front hand like in a tick-tack. not sure how to make it rotate around the front foot. I see you not only slice the back foot but you also compensate with the front one in the other direction (but you don't mention that I think :P )

I surfboard is NOT designed to have your front foot so much forward. It will slow down by steeper noserocker being pushed into water creating huge resistance by water displacement. A lot of strapless riders are going slow as hell. Better learn to put most of your weight on front leg, but located behind wide point, instead of back leg, like twintippers do.

good info, BUT you yourself say at the beginning of the video the a 2' strapless air can be as challenging as a 25' on a twin-tip. your explanation video then repeatedly shows you doing at least 4' airs, so that is like a 50' twin-tip jump... which is something I NEVER see at my kiting spots cause that is a bit next level. I know it's hard when you are talented and been doing it for so long to remember what it is like to not have a clue, but best method is crawl, walk, run and seems like you are showing us sprints when we need to be seeing crawls...

Aloha Evan! What percentage of your air comes from your speed/pop from the board, and what percentage comes from sheeting in/using the power of the kite?
