  • This week we have Part II of how to Jump Bigger where we talk about some more advanced and less conventional kite flying techniques while in the air to help your hang time and go even bigger and most importantly come down softly or land with more or less speed. If you have not seen Part I I recommend going back and watching this first as this breaks down the 3 main aspects of jumping and how to go bigger.

    Great video! There are a lot of little nuances someone who's good at jumping implements during a jump. That's really cool how you capture many of these, since I'm not really good jumper... yet🤙🏼

    Great explanations. The details and nuances are hard to explain and you make it pretty clear.
    I also think that explaining when to loop on the way down is a lot about FEELING the swing under your kite, and that moment when you aren't accelerating anymore. Hard to define and tell someone else for sure.

    I'd love more pointers specifically on when to pull the heli loop. As you're landing, do you want the kite in front of you, and then you pull the back hand? (its a bit hard to tell whats going on in that 360 cam footage).

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Evan, yeah honestly some of the clips in this video I don't think correspond perfectly with what I'm talking about at all times. As your body speed increases in the air from moving the kite back and forth it will make it easy/natural to loop the kite to help bring it back in front of you. Practice by doing a light redirect of the kite just past the peak of your jump and then landing by redirecting the kite the other way and they finishing the loop as you ride out. Start just doing that earlier and earlier and eventually you will be doing a heli loop as you hit the water and they you will get used to doing it earlier and higher and higher

      @erbartlett 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evannetsch yeah, its hard to get the exact footage of each technique, but thanks, thats the best explanation i've heard. not sure i'm jumping high enough to need them, but hopefully i'm working towards that point. I am at the point where i'm moving the kite back and fourth while i'm in the air to get it to where i want to be for a smooth landing, I'll add a loop in at the end at landing and then take it from there

    Thx Evan, great advice. In what circumstances might you heli-loop to the front (pulling hard on front hand)?

  • @ris.niclas2731

    Great videos! Gonna try your advice for heliloops! Send the kite a bit to one side, to create a light pendulum effect, then steer hard to the other side till the kite completes the loop, right?

      Yes, as your body speed increases in the air from moving the kite back and forth it will make it easy/natural to loop the kite to help bring it back in front of you. Also, what’s the best way of avoiding the kite getting upwind of you, rather than just overhead? This occasionally happens to me and I’m not certain what caused it.

    • @julianrudert7779
      @julianrudert7779 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Pretty late, but did you actually find out why this happens? Would appreciate it if you could tell me, because i have the same problem. My guess though at the moment is, either we lose our edge or we do not steer the kite quickly enough or we let our bar out in the air, which makes the kite go upwind more quickly.

    • @deeearnshaw9551
      @deeearnshaw9551 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@julianrudert7779 Yeah, a year later and a few thousand jumps more, I have learned that I wasn’t redirecting the kite early enough, the bigger the kite, the earlier the redirect.
      I have been working on some tips from one of Stephen Akkerdjik’s jumping videos about holding the kite at 11 o’clock and “sticking with the plan”, makes the whole thing a lot more predictable.
      Good luck!
