  • This week in our strapless kiteboarding series we are covering how to do a downloop transition. This can be learned on a twintip or a surfboard and like many new skills this is easiest to learn in flat water and take into the waves once some confidence is built. The downloop transition is not just more powerful jibe, but most importantly a kite flying technique that pays off in light wind helping to recover your kite from a stall, and is a foundation in kite flying technique for kitesurfing especially in side and side onshore wave riding conditions.
New video's will launch every Tuesday at 9am!

i discovered it. can u make a video for basic tricks with straless plz. nice job, allow me to correct wrong move ! Thx !
and u can add if u downloop slow it is risky to crash the kite and put many less tension in line and starting the kite rolling in the water, which is a very bad situation...

Cutlass is epic, been using the 5'2" myself on smaller or softer days.

Sometimes Keahi uses a very special/peculiar technique in his bottom turns: kind of pre-rotates the bar, and then loops the kite in order not to have the lines crossed after the turn. can you elaborate on this issue?

Yes, I think if you know you are going to loop the kite to set up a turn pre-spinning your bar is sort of nice that way you come out of the loop with clear lines on the wave an do not need to be unspinning your bar while riding the wave. You can of course just ride with your lines crossed but I think often it feels better to have them straight when on the wave.

Excellent content. Wait, did you just boost over the dock with a strapless surfboard?! We are not worthy!

ha! It's a smaller dock, but yes can be a little scary!

Thanks for the great video.....when exiting downloop when is the best time to spin bar and untwist lines? I usually spin right out of turn but seem to lack fluidity...

I usually do as I sheet out and the kite is rising back up (unless on a wave and I usually wait) but I think that is just a personal preference thing. I see a lot of people do it what I would consider too early when you have the potential to loose control of the kite still.
