  • I'm always getting asked if I like wax or a deck pad better (for front foot traction) What I use or prefer and the answer isn't as simple as just one or the other as both have their pro's and con's. So which is better for you? Find out what I think the pro's and con's of Wax vs deckpad for Kiteboarding/Kitesurfing!
    New video's will launch every Tuesday at 9am!

    I'm surprised you didn't talk about wax + deck pad. As someone who appreciates surfboards that ride backwards really well I'm always waxing up the nose and the spot between the tail pad and deck pad. I also use basecoat wax on the pad it's self as I find it enhances the pads traction quite a bit (and basecoat doesn't melt easily). I also heavily wax my front rail for grabs, pad or no pad.

      True, I did not mention that, lots of options to talk about. I even wax my feet sometimes...especially if I have to walk over slippery rocks that can leave them slick once in the water...

      Came here to ask about this. I have a split deckpad, and I slip off if I accidentally step in the middle ( usually when I’m trying to ride upwind ), and not knowing anything about surfboards or wax I’ve been wondering what I should do. Love this series by the way @Evan

      Even if you have front and back pads you'll want to wax the area between them and the nose of your board with basecoat wax at least.

    Thanks Evan - great summary. Pads are not zero maintenance though. I always travel with contact adhesive for those peeling edges.

      Ha, true I guess perhaps not 0, but pretty close to none, and feels like it compared to wax!

    I freakin' LOVE punt wax. Yes, it's messy, but I love it when my board is locked to my feel both on the water and in the air, and that alone makes it worth it (for me).

      Yeah, that stuff is so messy... I really like fu wax, just a little more normal and has really nice stick and I find it does better in warmer water.

      @@evannetsch we don’t get a ton of warm water up here unfortunately… I’m on cold or cool most of the year. I’ll check the fu. Thanks!

    Glad I watched this one Evan as use both Cabrinha boards spade and cutlass with pads with bare feet and my other LoydSurfboard with wax but yesterday it was colder in Scotland and used the board with wax and slipped off it a few times so thanks I will use that one with boots in winter 🥶 Awesome videos so cool 😎 all the best from your Highlands of Scotland Ambassador 🪁🏄‍♂️💦 ❤️💯🤙

    For my kitesurf board I use a pad, for surfing I use wax, as you mention you don't get the chaff from wax.

    One thing I struggled with wax is it shortens my sessions. Only lasts about 45min to 1hr of riding.

      Sometimes you just gotta keep a bit of extra in your pocket! Dark color boards don't help either if you are in a warm place...

    Maybe you can do a video on kite strapless board construction? I love the weight and floatiness of Core 720 but I have so many heal dents now on version 1. I'm also not sure what the channel on the bottom of the board does. Replaced that with Duotone Whip SLS, light weight, little less float, better construction so far, F-One Magnet, NO FLOAT but so light, OR Jester, bomb proof but heavy as heck.
    Anyway, some experience would be helpful for people starting out. Quad vs Tri vs 2 (I've seen people put all 5 fins on their board! lol), etc.
    Costing me a lot of money learning/experience.

    Hey Evan. Maybe you could do a video sometime on traditional spreader bars vs. rope bars for strapless freestyle? Do you like riding or prefer one over the other for wave riding or freestyle

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I like a fixed position, not necessary a harness hook/chicken loop, but with the rope slider I don't like the shifting pull point for freestyle or in the waves either for that matter, so with a rope slider I keep the position fixed in the center still. That is just me though....some people do prefer, I'd say it is just a personal preference

    What about talk when to use board leash

    • @evannetsch
      @evannetsch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I may do a video on that in the future. I generally just use on in offshore winds or if I'm in a spot were my board will likely end up on the rocks/reef or a hard place to get if I do use it. Other than that it is certainly safer to go without one, especially if you are doing a lot of air tricks......

    Also, surf wax smells amazing and pads don't.
