I share here some of the knowledge I acquired in those years.
Film photography, digital, darkroom printing, inkjet are just few of the subjects.

Merry Christmas to you and your subscribers Sir .
Thank you, have a great Christmas.
That was really good food for thought Luigi. I also only recently came across that unexpected (but completely understandable) problem of the viewfinder in a mirrorless (a Fuji XE1 in my case) being really dark when set up for flash. And since I use manual focus lenses on that camera (another of your points) it's a real pain to get good focus when using the camera handheld in that setup. In contrast, using my Nikon D600 DSLR was just easy. I would love to own a K1 for numerous reasons but particularly to use my K-mount lenses (I've used a Pentax MX since 1994) at their native field of view. But I'll be honest: what I'd really like to see from Pentax is a new full-frame DSLR that's about 20% more compact. I know you can't get a DSLR (especially with a stabilised sensor) down to the size of the smallest film SLRs. But I'd like to see one that's not much bigger than a Nikon F80. With regard to manual lenses on Fuji: I'd urge you to try some of the cheap Chinese lenses. They're so cheap that you can afford to just try one out. I use the ttartisan 50mm f1.2 and the 17mm f1.4 and I find the experience deeply enjoyable - including very decent aperture rings that remind me of Olympus Zuiko lenses. And they're at least as sharp and contrasty as a lot of 1970s and 1980s lenses. Better in some respects.
Thanks. I'll have o try some cheap Chinese lenses. K1 is a big camera but sometime is good thing, more inertia and a better grip. We will see what the future will bring!
I enjoyed the video a lot, thanks. Which prime lens do you recommend to start with? I take photo mainly to record daily life. Been looking at this camera for a while. Thanks.
Thank you. As a general lens the 43 limited or the 35mm can be nice. If you want the 50mm is very good and very cheap. A nice way to start.
Grazie
Merry Christmas and Happy Peaceful New year to all!!👋👏
Thanks, to you too.

Thanks, same to you and your family.
Luigi, I could swear you had a pentax K1/ K1ii all along. Maybe because of your numerous reviews of pentax gear. Greetings from a K1 user!
I had access to it to make a test but I sadly had to give it back to the Italian importer after a couple of months... same with the Kimono... and I miss the Kimono a lot!
Congratulations! It's a stunning camera.
Thanks!
Thanks - I agree with you - it is way too easy to touch come combinations of buttons on the new mirrorless cameras and change everything without knowing it. The last one I bout has a manual that is over 300 pages long. That is insane.
Hasselblad 500 manual was 15 pages... with a lot of pictures!
Great cameras that are increasingly appealing. Especially as the rest of the industry marches on into the faster more powerful future. They just bring you back to photography.
It's a camera for photographers, as far as possible from a smartphone.
My Pentax cameras i own and use starting with my Pentax Spotamatic SP2 film camera i just put new lights seals in . My Pentax CCD digital cameras *istDL, K100D I bought both nee and still use. My CMOS senser Pentax cameras K50, K3-11 & K3MARK111 The only camera I've had any problem with is the K50 Apature Block Failure & a K70 i jave my son after i had it repaired.
I still have a nice collection of fil cameras by Pentax. Only one that seems to have problems now is an LX, electronic is not working properly, I'll have to see if I can fix it.
K-1 II is a beast. This would be my ultimate camera. The One. Last for the lifetime. Anyhow, recently I shoot my old film SLR, half-frame Pentax 17 and 20 years old APS-C CCD. The least sophisticated cameras I have, inspire me the most... I'd be glad to shoot K-1 II with FA 43/1.9 Ltd - but just not today, surprisingly 🤔 However, happy shooting, Luigi! I'm sure, it was good choice 😄
Thanks! Yep, simple is better... but simplicity is not trendy :)
Pentax really stands by their customers. Incredible lens compatibility. Excellent firmware support. I have been with Pentax cameras 50 years.
I had to switch after the *istD, I needed more resolution and a full frame so I want to Canon and then Fuji, but since the K1 I waited for an excuse to get back to Pentax. Loved it in film and I missed it. ergonomically are always perfect for my hands.
"Pentax really stands by their customers." LOL, yeah, unless you need hardware, like for instance lens contacts which they won't sell to you. Of course in Luigi's case that is not an issue with the old manual lenses. And, I have been using Pentax cameras for only over 40 years.
@@joedusel Sadly in the modern era "assistance" is a lost word. Try to get a spare for a dishwasher or even for a car. Pentax has sure to improve but I think is not worse than other brands. I had a problem with an Epson printer, the spare heads are available but only they could install it and at the end costs more than a new printer. When the world recycling was invented the authorization for trashing instead of fixing was granted.
Good work man, I’m building a unit out of 2 bys and a 500 watt light, however that wine box looks so proffesional
Thanks. The wine box was around and free... and came out pretty good :)
Excellent! I shoot Nature and do a lot of hiking with gear so, for that, i have Oly E-M1X... but i got a K-1 just to shoot my Takumars and other film K and M42 glass on... have no AF glass for it at all and it's great friends with my Spotmatic! Brilliant camera.
Not the right weight for hiking :) But yes, it's a great camera!
Congrats!
thanks
It's a great camera. I myself use a D3s, D700, Df and the D810. They all take great photos. New cameras don't take better photos!
Amen to that!
I work at a camera store. Still a lot of folks out there who are perfectly happy with their DSLRs and simply don’t need the tech features featured in mirrorless systems. It’s sad to see Canon really drop DSLR support, at least Nikon is keeping a lot of their F lenses going, despite both brands officially ceasing DSLR development. Me personally, after mostly shooting film for 7 years, really am not so interested in Live view / EVF shooting. Maybe photographing Usain Bolt or a cheetah or F1, sure, give me a Sony A9. Otherwise, I’ll keep my OVF, Buttons and Dials!

@@LuigiBarbano My pleasure mate. Just a small but important tip regarding the dynamic range if you haven't experienced it yet, but you surely will. K1 ii full dynamic range potential starts at iso125. At iso100 you will get purple magenta stuff in the deep shadows in high dynamic range scenes (but not always), that is due to the new accelerator chip. Just switch from one stop EV iso increments to 3 stops, i.e. 125-160-200 instead of 100-200-400. You do not have to switch if you do not want to, just use iso200. i personally use iso125 as basic. Enjoy your k1ii.
@@sovu9399 thanks for the tip! I will try that.
Great choice and hope you enjoy your new camera .
Sure I will, I fell in love with that camera when I tested it last year! :) Thank you.
I have been a Pentax user for many years, 16 plus years ago i purchased my first DSLR, a Pentax K100D Super. Since then I have added a host of other Pentax cameras, my favorites are the Kp, k3 series, the K3 MKIII being my favorite one and the mack daddy, K1 MKII. It is a beast of a camera and as i got involved in event photography became my go to camera along with the k3 series. I photographed events with earlier Pentax cameras but with the k1 and a K3 as my second body i had more confidence in my camera and started doing more events. The k1 is an unusual camera and as a landscape camera and for events was a pleasure to use.
I'm enjoying it. I was pentax since the ME Super, in digital after the *ist D I switched to Cano for a while, than Fuji and now back to Pentax!
I’m wondering how people react seeing a Pentax when you photograph events. My wife’s home country has a lot more Pentax cameras in the wild, she even though isn’t a photographer, knows the brand. In the west, people either think it’s an old film camera, have no idea, or think I’m possessed for buying a new Pentax (K3 III). So far my experience with it, it’s a very impressive DSLR for an APSC. ISO sensitivity is pretty good, autofocus is very snappy, the OVF is MASSIVE and bright, and the UI is mostly great to navigate & understand (I say mostly because I’m completely new to it and used to Canon). I look forward to doing some events and turning heads with a quality camera people simply don’t know anything about!
@@jbones360 Thanks for your input. Yep, people looks quite strange seeing a Pentax... even stranger when I use the Pentax 67 or the Hasselblad :)
@@jbones360 Indeed it gets some attention. That’s OK - I love discussing (but never arguing). When a severe storm blew through a track meet I was working, I was the only one left shooting. A couple of other photographers asked ‘OK what is that camera?’
Congrats, nice camera. I was testing it against other DSLRs and mirrorless after my K-3 Mk III broke and I was unable to get it repaired. I decided to get another K-3 cause I had APSC lenses, but K-1 was really cool camera.
My dream is still the Kimono... next time!
Don't discount the K1 in crop mode. Also many apsc lenses still cover the full frame sensor of the K1 with minimal vignetting. K3III is a phenomenal camera too
Yeah, but all my lenses are only Apsc, I think none cover FF. 60-250 does but I would need to modify it.
Which one is better as a full frame, k1 or 5d mark iii? Thanx
I never used the 5D III, I had the first 5D. I think Canon have a good quality but simply the cameras are not made for me, I always feel all the controls in the wrong place... so I cannot really tell which one is better. I sure like the Pentax a lot.
I checked 5D Mk IV recently and I consider it worse as DSLR then K-1 Mk II (which I also checked) so I suppose 5D Mk III will not be better. As digital camera 5D series has it pros and cons, Canon sensors are very nice (Pentax is using Sony), I think AF-C is better (AF-S on Pentax is spectacular), Pentax is kinda behind the line with AF tracking software, but normal AF is great. There is bigger choice of modern lenses for Canon, Pentax can use old film era lenses, also autofocusin ones, but modern lens lineup, made for DSLR is kinda disappointing. There are great lenses, but there are not many. As Camera, DSLR camera, K-1 Mk II is hard to beat. I think only Nikon D850 is better and even then there is space to argue about image quality. But in the end truth is that any DSLR from last 10 or so years will work great, unless you shot action. Then there is Nikon and not much else :)
@@jerzyjablonski1432 I miss the Canon 17mm TS... but nothing else from Canon, it's just not right for my hands, I used Canon for many years, never had to complain for the quality but it was designed for someone with very different hands!
The 5D of you're a working pro or aspire to be. Is what it is. I shoot Pentax but this is the reality.
@@TheLocalredhead I'm a pro and still the 5D was never designed for me... I had the 5D and 1DS (21mpx) good quality but never felt at home with Canon.

No worries, Luigi, I liked that bit of politics and I agree on #1 Worst😉The "Tax Freedom Day 2024" was June 28th in Poland - do you know, what that means? On the other hand, my best spent money (not invested, I'm not proffessional) would be couple of decent prime lenses and recently ordering more prints. Step by step I should make some albums too (again, after some years). Nothing serious, family pictures and some hobbyist cityscapes - but they mean so much more when put on photographic paper 🙂
You are lucky, here in Italy we arrived at the end of September... and they do not consider the 27.7% state retirement plan as a tax! I just hope something will change soon also in the EU. Printing the photographs is essential to preserve the memory. Just the iight and you can watch them, no need for compatible computers and software.

Hello, in my super program suddenly the wind lever doesn't work, it seems loose and don't activate the shutter, can you help me to understand what happened? Tks a lot
Hello, it can really be a lot of different things. Most of the problems are caused by mechanism you find under the bottom plate. Sometime the problem is deeper... If you look for learncamerarepair on google or facebook you can find a lot of information and repair manuals. Not easy to do a diagnosis at distance... but my suggestion, if you have familiarity with repair or you want to learn, is to start from the bottom plate. I hope this was useful.

Just today I took some pictures in studio with a mirrorless using flashes and I hated it... spent half hour to set the camera so I could see with the pilot lights...
Not. Its a good camera
Agreed!
As someone who shoots in film on my 35mm Mamiya SLRs and digital on sigma fp I can say that nothing will ever beat film. No matter how much I try to mimic film look on my digital photos, it’s just not the same and never will be.
Amen to that!
Wasn’t this Ricoh based on a Cosina body? Great work by the way! Loved the video and subbed
I honestly don't know, a lot of cameras at that time were based on something else and I did not found many info online about it. Thanks for the compliment and subscription!
With the price of film, developing and printing.... the cost is not the camera. I don't want the cheapest SLR
There are a lot of people right now starting with film. They never used it and want to just give it a try to see if they like it or not. A lot of them are young with not much money, let say they have a budget of some $100 bills. In that case the cheapest camera is perfect because they can buy film and develop it. A roll of Black and White developed at home has a price around $10. For each $100 bill saved on the camera is 360 photographs taken. If they like it after 20-30 rolls they can invest in a better camera. If they don't they can resell the camera at the same value and had an experience and lesson learned. BTW, the camera I bought fo 2.5 euros, for a beginner, has the same results as a $600 Pentax LX or a $3000 Leica. If you are learning to drive and your goal is to do the first 200 miles of your life, a used Fiat 500 has the same value as a Lamborghini. Except for the pussy magnet... that is all another value :D
So we can’t take any color photos in this camera? Thank you.
Exactly, it produces only black and white images.
You've made me going on auction portals... Horrible! 🤣🤣🤣 But no worries, I resisted the temptation 😉 However, when my ME-Super stops working, I might obtain another camera exactly this way...
:D :D :D Resist! :D Actually is really fun to get camera listed as spare parts and learn to fix them. But... it's a lot of time and a very good humility lesson :)
@@LuigiBarbanoI would love to do that, but with zero experience or knowledge what to do and what certain parts the internals do sound a bit difficult, but fun!
@@hozunon there is always a first time :)
@@LuigiBarbano That's true, but unfortunately my first attempt made a 60 degrees turn where I ripped out a working lens from a broken rangefinder and and slapped it into a helicoid adapter... It's working fine and I guess it's a free lens for my digital camera now? lol
