I remember they said they wanted to turn it into a little nature reserve, petrol station and fast food place. All the rubbish would be in that reserve in no time

This place housed the homesless and helped the community in so manyways and the council shut it down just because of some odd fights.

I’m T-total, nevertheless I’d hate to see this historic building destroyed. There are several purposes this historic building could be used for. It would be good if it could be used to be of benefit to the local community.

I understand that all is not lost though. There is a campaign to re-open this line: The Minsters Rail Campaign. The line will (re)connect Hull, Beverley, Market Weighton, Pocklington, Stamford Bridge, Haxby and York. We can only hope !🤞

In this country the cemetery isn’t that old. My father, now in his 90’s, is from Upper Wortley where I spent many day’s staying with my grandparents. My father would have lots of memories of this area.

Can you do a video about Driffield castle. I only found out there used to be a castle a few months ago. Me and my brother used to play on the crane when we were little too. Never got up to the hook tbough😂

The steel deflector plates situated beneath steel over bridges and foot bridges at stations are purely to prevent sulphur from the exhaust soot corroding the steel, cheaper to replace deflectors etc. The series has been fantastic, good work ! Sad to see that all the meticulously constructed stone work just destroyed. Practically all the G N R infrastructure in West Yorkshire was eradicated by Beeching considering that they fought so hard in 1850s to reach Leeds (Central).

There would have been a lot of Shire horses stabled on that farm, the blacksmith would make the horse shoes on site. There are so many buildings the farm was probably much bigger in 1841, maybe part of the old RAF Driffield once belonged to the farm. All the work in the fields would be done with horses and then maybe steam engines at a later date, long before they ever got the first tractor.

Wow! I live in Driffield, and I knew about the farm shop, but I had no idea the rest of it was there. That blacksmith workshop is amazing. What a shame it's all going to be destroyed.

Driven past it a million times, never been in there though. Yeah, medieval Driffield is underneath modern Driffield, it hasn't moved. It was originally a Scandinavian settlement, at least that's where it's 'Three Fields' name derives.

It's scandalous when history like this is destroyed. Blacksmith's shop alone should be saved, even if rebuilt in another location.

Used to deliver there as part of a milk round in the early 90’s. We used to call it Angus’s farm but think that was because of the Aberdeen Angus beef sign they used to have near the roundabout entrance.

It's built on the medieval hamlet of kelleythorpe not driffield. They're not building a drive through facility or fuel station either.

I think it is still part of the Sunderland wick estate

It's not your typical Roman Catholic church but a Greek Catholic one. Greek Carholics are Eastern Christian (just like Orthodox Christians, who are extremely similar) so their practices differ a bit from the Roman rite. Both Roman and Greek Catholics are considered the same religion but with a difference in practice and very slightly in theology. The wall with the paintings (called icons) is called the iconostasis and normally only priests are allowed behind those doors but I assume it no longer houses the Eucharist since it's abandoned so it should be fine. The table with the church on it is the altar. Greek Catholic services sometimes remind Westerners of Islam since the chant style is sometimes more Middle Eastern, they bow down as Muslims and have churches with domes. Some people claim it's what inspired some Islamic practices.

I joined the territorial army back in the 80s and we were made to run up that hill. By the time you got to the steep part you were on all fours gasping for air.

Hi just came across your channel tonight and I'm so pleased I did,I absolutely loved it, and how sad the cemetery is now so overgrown, my passion is graveyards and cemetery's I could spend all day looking at the headstones, and I loved all the information you gave especially about the mines 😊

My aunt and uncle are buried there together with other ancestors.

Had a bad crash on my mountain bike down post hill, broke my wrist, badly bruised my heel & was covered in grazes. Was just relieved I didnt break my neck.

Completely agree with you about the new road layout. In the old days you drove straight onto the filling station forecourt from the A64. When the roads were altered, the entrance to the filling station and little chef was moved about a hundred yards further back and you had to drive round the back of the buildings. Most people couldn't be bothered with the hassle and others would drive past the entrance before they even realised it was there. It's strange that such a prominent site (and Crossroads Farm just up the road) has stood unused for so many years.

Middleton woods also had bell pits. At school we were doing the history of coal and went on a trip into the woods. We found the tell-tale ring of spoil around them. I believe that it was the monks from Kirkstall Abbey who mined there.

Rothwell Parish Church - John Blenkinsop, engineer & inventor of Rack & Pinion railway is buried there & quite an impressive grave to look at.
