As a commercial pilot, flight instructor and lifelong aviation enthusiast, I created this channel to share my love of flying with others. I hope my videos are both entertaining and instructional. I love flying in the North Carolina back country, splashing seaplanes in various lakes, and honing my tailwheel skills.
I am privileged to have lots of friends in the flying community and have flown over 80 different types of aircraft. I currently fly a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza that I share with 2 other partners and a Lake Buccaneer LA4-200 seaplane. I've also owned a Citabria GCBC, an Alon A2 Aircoupe, a Piper Apache, a Piper Tomahawk, and a couple V-tail Bonanzas.
I hope you enjoy this channel and the videos. Safe Skies & Thanks for watching!

I was in this in 2004 and 2005 some old timer named Wayne was the leader. A plane went down in a corn field if I remember correctly. There was a beer wagon and I snuck a few even though I was a pup back then fun times B1B in 2004 was awesome and Honda unveiled their Honda Jet I think.
Fun to watch and instructive. I'm looking for a Buccaneer in Canada as one from the US would be too complicated and costly with just the exchange rate and the import paper work. I'm in Quebec and this would surely be the best plane to fly here with all the water we have. Thanks for the videos.
“I don’t care who you are, that’s awesome!” 100% agree! Lovely plane and lovely countryside 😊
Traumahawk?? hey smart ass I got my ticket in one of these fine trainers My instructor had 30,000 hours -flew the Hump in World War III and loved this bird.
#1 question for anybody buying a seaplane. Has it EVER been flown into saltwater. Sweet Lake Amphib.
5 things took too long. Geesh
My dream plane… one day ❤️
Seaplanes are crazy cool & flying boats are my favorite of all!
@@CoryJohnsonpilot I got my seaplane rating 3 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did…
The go cart of the skies. So responsive yet unforgiving. After hundreds of hours in Tomahawks my only complaint was anemic power.
Man, I love physics.
If anyone calls it a Traumahawk they’re a bad pilot. The Tomahawk is for aviators not pilots.
It's not. For 180k in South Carolina 'fresh' water. You should have 4 inches back into the gull wing.a Right hand could be console.
Great informative video... Would have been even better without the background music distracting from your conversation.
Just saw your unfold and go video. I have a Highlander also. I recognized Vic Payne’s place in Brasstown too. That is where I learned to fly. I just finished building an airfield in Linden NC. Maybe on my next trip to Brasstown I’ll land at Lake Norman Airpark for a quick visit. John
That'd be fun. Give me a shout when you're out this way!
Cory, nice video, I am a sport pilot looking to transition into a seaplane rating. I have been look at the Searey and adventura ll. My instructor said that I should consider the Buccaneer. I live in Mooresville as well. If you ever want a copilot I would love to go. Don
Lake series seaplanes are some of the most unique of all seaplanes. They're tremendous fun to fly & float!
I saw some add-ons of an angle of attack on some Cessnas what would be the cost to put some type of angle of attack gauge on your Bonanza
I wouldn't get slower than 70knots dmms-when shallow turns are needed. Then no slower than 65knots on short final Vref.
My 1974 V35B has a dramatic dirty stall charctaristic. Your stall looks way better. Every time i do a dirty stall i am directly looking at the earth below and things and flying in the cockpit. Not sure why the difference.
I've taught a lot of people in many Bonanzas. Assuming the rigging is correct and the ball is centered, the stall should be a near non-event. Many Bonanza pilots have lazy feet, and that makes stalls much more "entertaining" than if their feet are awake and the plane is coordinated.
@@CoryJohnsonpilot I completely understand what you are saying, Power on stalls are non-event as you said, its the poweroff stall with full flaps and gear down thats dramatic. CFI tired it thinking i was doing it wrong but still the same result. Anyway thanks for the info and great content.
Anyone who advises people to fly a Tomarock should be charged with attempted homicide.
Cory, You'll love this. In 1985 I was a CFII in Tulsa OK flying out of Jones Airport. It was known as RVS "Riverside" then. And that summer I gave instrument instruction to your planes owner. Same paint, 6-pack and very old King radios. No AP, or perhaps there was a wing leveler. I don't recall. The owner (Bill?) put me on the insurance and handed me a key in exchange for payment for his IFR instruction. All I had to do was put fuel in it. I also drove the fuel truck for Tulsa Pilots Club. An OLD convertible Ford HD pick-up with badly worn ball joints and NO tie rods ends to speak of. It had a relatively small tank (maybe 800-1000 gallons) on the back. 100LL was $1.69 gal. Needless to say, I flew the wings off your plane that summer and loved every tenth of it. I had been teaching in beater 152s and 172 with an occasional hour in a Mooney or Piper. Flying that Bonanza was like driving a brand new Ferrari. The interior was brand new as was THAT paint job (unless its been resprayed in the exact same paint scheme). I later matriculated to charter, then airline. Just retired after some 34 years. Now flying BizJets part time both Part 91 and 135 and have had the pleasure of flying into Concord and I am very familiar with that controller. At any rate, it's New Years eve 2024. ENJOY that fine machine. I loved flying it and am very happy to see it in its current shape. All the best.
Very cool story! Thanks for sharing!
Does not recover from a spin like a Cessna 150.
In order to use the Direct-to function on the G3X, I believe you'd need to have the flight plan set to Internal rather External
Taming the tomahawk, is that a joke?
Very cool video. My Highlander has been on order 19 months. Not sure I will ever see it.
It's been a bit longer than that for my SuperStol XL. Patience will all be worth it!
I’m told expect it in mid July possibly august. I put half down in April of 2022.
I could advance stall the a non-flow stripped Tomahawk with absolutely NO wing drop, just mushed downward with elevator full back. now if one was not controlled balance it wind dropped rapidly, and that was great training and confidence to rate control od the aircraft.... and for just basic flying it was so fun to fly
Thanks for the nice video. Showed it to my wife in case I need to do manual extension some day and she won't be confused or too concerned about what's happening.
Just saw the add on FB wish I was in a place to purchase! Maybe in a year or so.
Would a plane like this work for flying looking distances or is it too utilitarian?
Richard knight took my $1k deposit, kept it and then and then sold to you.
I learned to fly in this bird in 1992, pretty cool airplane, graduated to faster ones. Tomahawk 2460k, and Tomahawk 25674
Very cool!
All of my primary flight instruction from first flight to private pilot check ride were in the Tomahawk. Since I have been able to transition to just about every other single engine aircraft with a single check ride. I think in makes good pilots.
If it’s airworthy and you’re qualified to fly it you will probably survive. As long as you don’t fuck up.
Yes you can.
Hey Cory! Are you still flying the Buccaneer? I've really enjoyed your videos. Thanks! Sean
Woof, I couldn’t watch the whole video because of the annoying background noise! Nice plane.
Did most of my PPL in a Tomahawk. Would have used a stage of flap for take off, other than that great little aeroplane, great visibility. The only downside is the very upright seating position!
Beauty! What's your ride along program look like??
Best ATC gents
I that bird doesn't stall like the Tomahawk I learned to fly in. I remember my instructor having me hold it in a stall until it broke to the right and doing an unintentional split-s. That was rather exciting for a 10 hour student.
There is nothing wrong with the PA38, it’s just a bit boring and requires actual piloting to recover from a spin, a C152 let go and pull out it ain’t. Just a quick heads up, if you do go spinning in a trauma hawk please don’t take a glance at the T tail as it will give you nightmares.
So what are we looking at here, 105kts?
You rarely see the 250s for sale.
Gave up on waiting for you to make your points.
This is SOOOO cool. I live on a lake in Michigan, and saw a sea plane land on another lake a few weeks ago. That inspired me to search for this.
I know almost nothing about planes, nor am I a pilot but I can tell this is fun to fly. And I can tell you love landing and taking off on the water. Super cool video.
fun fun fun 😁
I was wondering if you might have taken off from that runway in Huntersville
probably not fun.... there is no way that both the cops and the wife will allow fun to be had. i'm starting to figure it out though.... i'm going to start complaining about motorcycles and how awful they are and how they only have two wheels.... Somebody will make me ride one
I hate you, can I have a ride? I'll bring the bait. Never too much fun to be had. No tower or handoffs. Freedom.
So cool!!! Great video! Yes, a very unique airplane 👍👍
