    Celestial is fine for solo content at least, right? Like, if you don't know build theory like most people, you just want zerk for DPS in a group, Celestial for HoT solo story progression? If not, I have no clue why ANet gives players Celestial when they use level 80 boosts. Give them the actual solo build gear!

    I think with mesmer and it's rifle is really going to play into chronomancer and chronometer has incredible uptime with continuum split when it comes to might generation😊 The only thing that I'll say is that I don't think it has as much clone generation, but with that said, the rifle provides so much more healing. You can really customize your skill selection without having to take a lot of Wells.

      Necro sword's health cost/gain might be better if it were changed into life force cost/gain. Dual swords set can be like mini shroud skills but we can still gain life force.

    There are so many issues with Ax in wvw because it's not unblockable in any of it skills or a ground target, it's prone to being reflected. So you're not actually able to use the skill effectively in competitive mode. It's a dead weapon in that space ( current Meta). I was hoping this would be a new weapon to introduce a range meta thief build

    The relics of the rune sets should have been put where their runes came from, including as drops as well as vendors. I'm not going to bother thinking about them until legendary relic comes out. Unless I'm forced to get one of each for collections.

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah I've pretty much refused to buy any of them for a similar reason. Though I don't think that drop solution would've really worked, because they mostly come from salvaging exotic gear, which would mean they'd have to adjust every single drop table to include relics as an option instead which causes problems (not just because of workload) but also because things that are garantueed to drop at least an Exo, like Raid Rewards, could get devalued if they can drop you Relics that noone wants. I guess you could bypass this by dropping a chest with a choice of relics instead, but reallly that's a secondary problem to having to adjust every single drop table in the game.

    As a vet player and guild leader i always tell my team to compare the benfits of using something. Following the line of thought of this video about raid composition, i wanna point the follwoing scenarios: if you are gonna play the healer, whats your job? keeping people alive... when do people die in raids? when they screw mechanics, so as the video says you could feel tempted to phase faster. Now go to the golem dps check, what percentage of your team's dps are you doing vs their pure damage? (normally less than 5% based on years of reviewing logs in arcdps), if you bring added damage whats the percentage increase? (normally less than 5% more) now if you were attacking and lose a dps ally, how much percentage are you losing? (can be anything between 15-40% depending on how good your dps player was compared to the rest of them) so what has more weight on your decision making? now if you are going to play a dps and you think "maybe i should bring sustain", well thats actually important until you reach a certain treshold, yes you dont wanna be playing with 11k health 0 toughness and 0 heals, because anything that touches you will kill you and you will mess with the teams dps. Here, what you want to do is go in a practice team to the fight first and see how much damage you are taking and tune it to the point in which your healers can save you when you get hit without them having to fully focus on keeping you alive or reviving you. (look at your health bar and how fast it goes up ro down, try to tune to softer variations). Always start tankier until you are comfortable with the fight, and then start removing sustain until you reach a point where your damage is comparable with your fellow dps players and your healers dont struggle keeping you alive

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm trying to decipher what you're intending to tell me here. I'm guessing what you want to say is that you think that A) Healers using damage increasing options isn't all that useful because it's not their job - which yeah, one of the main points of the video was that you shouldn't use a celestial healer unless both you and your group are experienced enough to balance work with it. And B) That it's more valuable for DPS players to take these defensive options because it increases their reliability. - Which I kinda skimmed over. I did want to talk about it, but ended up derailing the video, so I still have a half-finished script all about this idea lying around, because I find it's a really complex topic. Long story short, while this is absolutely reasonable, in my experience I've found that approaching learning from the angle of numbers, regardless of if you're worried about your damage or survivability is never as effective as getting people on the ground quickly and getting them to focus on actually learning mechanics over anything else. In some cases it may lead to fewer early successes, but far more long-term learning.

      @@MarenAlu intention wasnt telling you anything :D i quite liked your analysis and the way you explained. The intention was adding to it, for any viewers that come down to the comments section. So as you correctly understood, adding to your statement of "you can bring celestial as the healer as long as you and your team are in sync and aware of the additional stresses that will come up in the fight", which i agree with, i also want to tell your viewers to think about -why would you do it? what is the benefit? is the benefit worth enough for the loses that you can potentionally see? (this is where i bring up numbers, to tell them real data with which they can analyze by themselves) But yes, i also agree with you, learning from the angle of the numbers isnt the most beneficial way, and it is as you say a big topic, in which you have to consider whats your effect on everyone elses dps with whatever you are doing. For now i just wanted to give your viewers (specially those starting instanced content) a little perspective on how much they increase team's damage with their choice. As you said there is not ONE only way of doing things, but also as you said, players should know the extent of their actions. That way you dont have someone going celestial support to raids thinking "well im adding damage as a support so im great", rather you can have someone going in celestial support thinking "ok since this boss isnt heavy on its damage output, and we kinda need to skip this phase to prevent instant death mechanics, i think i can offer a +5% to team dps to help clear the fight". Similarly for the case of the dps using celestial.

  • @daefaron
    @daefaron 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Couple things. A: You complain about the Astral *Ward* camp, but then proceeded to completely gloss over and ignore the very letter opened in the video that explains literally why the Norn acted the way she did to the commander. She was under explicit orders not to interact or interfere with the Commander, even though it was very likely she would run into the Commander. The Ward had asked the Commander to be invited, it was declined twice, and thus her party was told to simply send the Commander away instead of bringing them in. You then mix things up with talking about having a cover story of being Vigil or Priory, and then having things in place for if the Commander appeared. Again, they weren't in each area for long and were explicitly told not to deal with them. You also mix in gameplay elements for saying they suck at stealth. B: You talk of Lyhr's comments, but fail to acknowledge the Commander coming back to life wasn't some easy thing Literally had help coming back to life. "Better then you have tried" would be hostile and antagonistic . The commander is not trying to make enemies here, but learn what's going on. The commander is also not some demi-god and super-powered. Strong yes, but not unbeatable. C: You talk of Commander not bringing up the voice to Zojja but also again, ignore the literal statements within that very chapter. Peitha goes "Don't tell Zojja, she's hostile", but also the medic literally tells the Commander that hearing a voice after traveling the mists isn't weird, they are not possessed, and unless the voice starts telling them to go murder people? It's not an issue. You are bringing up questions that were already answered and covered within the chapter in question. Rift lag is not a retcon. The commander was shunted through several portals unprepared, into a realm that was inherently hostile to their self as shown by them being unable to properly move as well without peitha's help. All other cases of using mist portals are prepared and at full strength, this one was different.

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A: Being told not to interfere is not an excuse to lack a cover story. It doesn't make sense that a secret organisation would not value their secrecy enough to not take extensive measures to protect it. In fact, it would mean they would require them to interfere less if they actively avoid suspicion. It's a video game, gameplay is part of the storytelling. It's what sets it apart as a storytelling medium. B: This one I can see. Since we don't get inner monologue for the commander, interpreting this as choosing the path of least resistance makes sense. I like that! C: I still stand by this, because it implies we trust Peitha who we barely know at this point more than Zojja, who is very much portraied as an old friend and needed point of familiarity. There's an in-story explanation, I just think it's a very bad one. Edit: Okay I can maybe see dismissing it with the expectation that it goes away on it's own and then transitioning into "Oh this might actually be useful" when it doesn't. I still think this comes across as naive and could've been made clearer, to prevent that impression, but maybe that's like calling people in horror movies stupid for not knowing they're in a horror movie. D: That is a solid explanation and I thought of it too, but it is not what they told us. I wouldn't have any issue with it if they called it out this specific travel that was the issue, such a moving suddenly, or too/from Neiros, or even through a portal presumably opened by Mabon. All very good candidates. But that is not what they said. They just said, blanket, that any travel through the mists causes riftlag. If it is specific to this travel, someone like Mabon who presumably does it quite a bit considering his position, should know the difference and they'd also know that it's not our first time in the mists.

    I'm not getting any sense of mystery from the whole setting, that's my biggest issue with SotO. We finally get into the Wizard's Tower, but randoms from every race on the planet got there before us and it all runs like clockwork. It's as if we're just discovering Lion's Arch by accident because we're the only ones who weren't invited, despite some of our friends chilling there for years now. Dick move there, Zojja. I'm also not a fan of how Anet writes races in GW2. They seemingly go out of their way to add as much diversity to every single setting as possible, but proceed to strip away everyone's identity. Like.. why do we have 20 different races in here if every opportunity to play off of having different races interacting was removed? Worst offender is probably Livia somehow getting along with Mabon. Oh yeah "he's just helping us" - so were the other Mursaat until they realized human sacrifices could recharge their batteries for free, but I guess she forgot. And on the topic of Mabon, this goes back to the lack of mystery. This is the first time we have a friendly Mursaat in the story, it should be a much bigger deal and source of intrigue. Instead it's just "yeah that's a thing now, whatever move on" - ok.. what a great use of such a historic moment there. Mabon I think would've worked better if he was something of a false antagonist. Instead of finding a camp outside LA, have us slowly track him down as we find out more clues about the Kryptis and a mysterious organization (a much smaller organization than what we got). Have us misinterpret some of those clues just based on the assumption that Mursaat are all evil. Give him a twist where he actually saves us from Cerus instead of coming in for a finishing blow, he's the one who opens a portal for us and asks us to trust him. Then don't introduce us to the Wizards right away, have the player character and Mabon go on a journey looking for them as we learn to slowly trust each other in a somewhat uneasy alliance fighting our way back home, exploring new lands, Just The Two Of Us (🎵). Use this opportunity to drop more lore on the Seer-Mursaat war and why he isn't like the others, what the Wizard's Court is, etc. Instead we got Zojja teen drama, Mabon is Ma-gone, and it feels like the Wizards got this whole thing under control so why are we even there? To play 3rd wheel or more like 523rd wheel? Considering how many members they have. If the organization was smaller and they were keeping the portals closed all this time instead of actively fighting a war without us, they could've made the floodgates open as the big cliffhanger and that's where we should've been introduced to the rest of the cast IMO, in their hour of desperation (saving them for the next story drop and teasing Zojja).

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I actually agree with quite a bit of this. I just starting working on Part 2 of this series covering Act 2 and Livia and Mabon are certainly on the agenda. Though I'm saving my overarching thoughts on the setting for the conclusions.

It feels super weird because both them and the bigger kryptis enemies "feel" like they have the same amount of HP, which is a shitton. And then the boss comes out of the Rift and gets melted in a second, wtf.

    For warrior i actually have an idea. But it's not really for the weapon. Well, i _stole_ an idea more like, but hear me out here... Another game called "Destiny 2" recently added a thing to the Titan class (basically space Marines/warriors) where they gave them a thing called "Banner of war" What it does is basically create a healing field around the Titan after they kill something with a melee or melee weapon. Stacks X4 as a 30 second refreshable buff. Allied kills while in the heal field refresh the buff as well It heals every ally in the area at an interval. It's honestly the only time i can think of where I did not mind playing support. Hell, i actively _wanted_ to play support like that. Cause you're basically using punches to heal your teammates. I can't think of a more warrior way to heal people Imagine you combine that with tactics. You punch the enemy and heal allies around you. You start yelling at your friends to shake off their conditions and get ready to fire on your mark and it heals them. You're basically doing the standard DPS rotation, but while supporting your allies. I dunno if it'd translate well to GW2 from destiny, but i can dream 😅

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's already multiple weapons (mainly Engi and Guardian Mace) that pulse healing or Barrier on hit respectively. There's no reason staff couldn't do something similar, but because of that precedent your idea is a little convoluted. You can't base it off kills, because that would only work out as intended in WvW exactly and more or less nowhere else. Making it based on Melee hits in general would essentially make it arbitrary in most secarios, except maybe sPvP, which leaves skills used as the last remaining option, kinda like how Thief relic works. Which would be kinda annoying to track, just because of the buff bar being so cluttered, but it would at least work. The issue is that skills on support weapons, aside from the occasional boon skill, are supposed to be situational. A feedback loop of healing would hurt warrior's already questionable utility access on a theoretical healing build. The idea isn't bad in and of itself, but it would just work infinity better as a utility skill or a trait than on a weapon.

I wanted to explain how it worked in Destiny to give the basic concept behind it Let me start off by saying I know your video was about *weapons,* but since "warrior staff" is always dreamt up as a support weapon I kinda just rolled in that direction and suggested this. As a _Trait/specialization line_ Because if I'm keeping it a 100 wit'chu, I'm a terrible healer. In every game I've played, support is incredibly difficult (for me) So since I don't know how to heal, or what I'd need, I couldn't really suggest anything for staff. @@droganovic6879 It's hard to comment on these because they're largely surface level ideas that don't tell you much about their function and gameplay. First I'd like to mention that 4 of the 7 Staves ingame have prominent healing abilities (and 2 of the remaining ones still have Regen accses and have been used in healing builds in the past), so that's not something to be considered exclusionary. For the rest: - Slow weapons generally come with CC to make them worth using..at which point this would play exactly like Hammer. - Warrior generally avoids magical effects (in general, but especially on the weapons), Spellbreaker Daggers are the one undeniable exception. Still feels like a poor fit and the sheer number of SWK Clones across various games would make that not a very novel prospect. - I had to look up Killik, watched a quick gameplay trailer and came to the conclusion that his moveset would not only translate better onto a Spear than a Staff, but also has nothing that would particularly stand out when put into GW2.

I will readily agree my ideas for staff warrior are surface level _at best_ I was just throwing out ideas to see what stuck, as the only class I actually use staff on would be *Necromancer.* Which would be laying down AoE trap style marks Yeah, slowing it down with CC would basically turn it in to a (perhaps slightly quicker) hammer. I agree that warrior usually doesn't have spellcasting, which I personally think is a good thing. That way each class can at least have something of a "character archetype" Revenant and Guardian are more akin to "magic knights" already. Yeah the Kilik thing was more an example of how I imagined a "monkey king/Kung-Fu" weapon looking Honestly that's probably what staff thief looks like. Make #5 a ranged turret placement like you said, that's great The #4 skill sounds really good too, but if you double down on turrets it might become very oppressive (triple with the supply drop ult?) I have a suggestion for #2 & #3 tho Skill 2 can be a "multi shot" thing. But instead of arrows it shoots "homing rockets" aka a split shot that targets multiple hostiles adjacent to a target, or hits a target multiple times Skill 3 can be a "trap" type deal, where you shoot an arcing shot that places down a mine (or a mine field even?) Or maybe instead of a mine you can turn it in to an arrow that spreads "glue" or whatever over an area and slows anyone who crosses? It'd tie in with a bunch of engi gadgets, so that might be fun? Rockets, mine, electric boost field and finally turret? Normal shot can be "scrap arrow" which could be like a shotgun blast, but as an arrow. Explosion on hit with slight AoE that does minor splash damage? Iunno man, just brainstorming with you here 😅

    I would have to disagree with Guardian pistols having bleeding on them. Guardian is themed after burning stuff(Virtue 1 is literally that: burning stuff to cinders), so it would only make sense to have pistol do only burning. No sense adding bleeding to a class that does only burning. Revenant scepter.... might be similar to specter's scepter, by being able to provide benefits to allies if you have them targeted. Maybe not have something good as scepter/pistol combo for specter(scepter 3 in that combo is awesome), but providing boons to allies is something that revenant could stand to have, which would pair perfectly with shield, which is already an excellent support option for revenant. While I do agree that warrior staff should be a heal weapon(same as druid or revenant staff), I do believe that warrior staff will be similar to revenant and daredevil staves: you whack people on the head with it. While it's not exactly a bad option(revenant staff is a pretty good heal weapon), it makes little to no sense for a warrior to have a long-range staff. Plus, ANet may add some burning or bleeding damage on one of the skills(warriors are similar in that regard to guardians, after all), so it shouldn't be a complete surprise that warrior staff may have one of its skills burn enemies instead of healing.

    • @MarenAlu
      @MarenAlu 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Firebrand Axe already has bleeding on it though, so it's not even new. It was merely a suggestion so that Firebrand can't abuse them as much, as they don't rely as heavily on the F1 passive and Legendary Lore pushes regular burning over the edge. I don't see the need for Rev to get a support weapon, Herald is doing extremely well without it already. Arguably Mace might still be better on Herald because it let's you stack Might more quickly and then Staff is the healing weapon. It might even benefit more from just having any mainland with CC on it than one with healing, it's just kinda redundant. Ally targeting, while unique has been more clunky and annoying than fun and I have my doubts that Anet wants to push the "traditional healer" angle anymore than they have at this point. I too think the Warrior Staff, whatever it ends up being, will be Melee, but the burning would seem quite random. The only Warrior Weapon skills with burning on them are Torch (for obvious reasons) and the 2 of the Longbow skills (flaming arrows). Everything else is Berserker F1s. Guardian doesn't have much burning on it's weapons either, only Torch and Axe (and Trident but that doesn't count right?). It's not a big deal, but it would thematically require them to set the staff itself on fire which seems a tad impractical unless, again, it's a Berserker F1

    Since all of these weapons are supposed to be used with all specs, I feel like your idea for ranger, while interesting, might not play out as well on Soulbeast. If we follow the current theme of Soulbeast with "anything that would apply to your pet, now applies to you" would essentially permanently buff the Soulbeast. As for your Engineer idea, I wish turrets were good, but essentially forcing someone to use turrets in order to make full use of the weapon is not the way to go, I think. You Thief idea, I kind of like, but I worry that it might make the weapon not really used in PvP for the same reason staff isn't really used in PvP as much. Most Thief weapons have 1 skill that deals damage and then some utility skills for mobility or defences. What I got from your explanation is that you intend for all skills on the axe to be DPS skills. Fine for PvE, but kind of useless in the neglected game modes. What I would do... Thief: Let me build on your idea a little. Sword/Dagger 3 and Pistol/Dagger 3 already have a similar thing, where using one of them flips the skill into another skill. What if we make Axe 2 a utility skill (either defensive, CC or mobility), which flips the Axe 3 skill into another skill that deals more damage or adds some kind of effect. Then, when using the flipped Axe 3, maybe it changes the stealth attack, as well. Maybe from CC to high damage or something. Ranger: I dunno'. I guess maybe a more supportsy weapon? Staff is cool, but where boons? Engineer: Honestly, I'll take any thing that is just purely ranged damage. So far, all weapons work best in melee range. Some ranged AoE would be nice. With some defensives built in, of course.

      The soulbeast one I really didn't consider, however it wouldn't be the first effect that's weaker when used by SB, like Sic em, so that can still work. For the Thief one, that's fair, I'm pretty much PvE only so I only put the minimum amount of thought necessary into the competitive side.

    Personally I would like Ranger's mace to play more on the trapper or rugged tracker/survivalist aspect. As much as more interactions with pets would be great, the way they function is just atrocious. I don't know why their AI doesn't prioritize, overwrite actions and do them instantly on command like other games do. As for your idea, it's just horrible. In WoW, Survival Hunter has Coordinated Assault, a really neat dps CD that works similarly to what you described, it empowers you when your pet uses its focus dump, and because if the pet's focus is over 50% it uses twice the amount to empower that focus dump, thus making the buff it should grant you extremely inconsistent and difficult to track. Not to mention this is in WoW, a game where the pet is extremely responsive and well made.

    • @MarenAlu

      The idea was made with Untamed's controllable pet in mind, where the unleashed pet skills are basically instant casts so I don't see how that's an issue. It requires a lot of fine-tuning to make it work in spite of the pet AI bit that was never the concern here. As for the survivalist idea, it's thematically appropriate, but do you actually have a concept for what it's supposed to do / play like? Because I have a hard time imagining what that actually means. Traps are generally disliked in PvE for their clunkiness and inconsistency, unlike the pet aren't unique and have already been popular in PvP at times, so they don't necessarily need the help as unlike AI controlled partners they are totally fine to be good on their own.

These have to be very well tuned and I don't see how they could pull it off so they don't create a situation where you have to hold on to your skills because your pet's are coming off of cd in x seconds. As for my ideas, I didn't sit and think it through much since it's just for the theme. There's a lot of options they can do that aren't tied to the weapon itself, nobody's stopping them to add a net throw or pulling out a javelin and throwing it no matter the weapon. Since it's mace on Ranger I just feel it will be something extremely boring like bashing and applying 3 confusion stacks and 5 vulnerability... It's already how Chrono works as well, the payoff just needs to be big enough. I can kinda see the net, but the Javelin is a stretch. Ranger skills are allowed to be the most creative whenever they're animal themed, so that's how you could make an idea like that work. I just can't see this concept forming it's own identity when Daggers and Shortbow already exist, it feels very surface level. I guess the more defensive aspects of a survivalist would come through better in PvP, for that it's actually a pretty solid idea. I'm almost certain they're holding back land-spears for the future. I know my ideas are a stretch, I just feel that ANet really dropped the ball with the last Elite specs thematic and especially their play-styles. Untamed's identity is all over the place, they had the chance to make a proper beast-master and allow the pet to deal significant damage or have more synergy with you (I understand you mentioned the problem with busted pets, but I find it really odd only GW2 has this issue). Catalyst is a mess and everyone on Reddit seems to hate it; I personally don't understand why the Elementalist is channeling their power into a device to create holograms of elemental creatures when it could've been anything else but that, for example I wished it worked like Mechanist with one strong elemental pet; instead it's another spec that plays off of auras like Tempest and doing it very poorly.
