A Visit From Clang | Space Engineers | The Search For Factorum E.8
I don't know about you but sometimes, when you play Space Engineers, nothing seems to go right. This is one of those episodes. In this episode of Space Engineers, The Search For Factorum, we struggle. Struggle to build, struggle to prepare, and struggle with clang. All for a deployable turret and the start of a mining base on the platinum asteroid. Check out just how bad it gets!
As always, thanks for watching!

    That's a novel way to use defensive turrets, I've always shot adversaries with my turrets, I never considered throwing the turret at them 🥴

      Lol. After further review, I would not recommend throwing turrets as a defensive tactic. Shooting them is a much more effective method.

    35:00 Ship is probably the easiest way to set them, so making a fold down arm to recharge and road might be cool. And to flip things like the rover, if you gyros are placed in correct orientation (2 colored dots goes 'to'/ forward, single dot 'one is the loneliest number, cause he's left Behind' is in back) then you just do a gyro override roll. 😃👍

    32:45 😳😱 Always best to reverse the 'outward' one back to a known 'home' where the waiting one is resting. Then they will both be at zero, welded together, then grouped so when they move in the future it's always together. I know, you said today (when filming it at least) brain wasn't braining. No worries!

  • @shadenphoenix

    22:40 (On the event controllers and antennas for signals) I believe what the new signals update you only need one antenna for all the things that you want to descend. A broadcast controller actually sends the messages in text like you see when the NPC guys are arguing with each other. Then you can have it to where it will tell you what's going on through the one antenna. Event controllers are like the other way to do it, But I think it takes a lot more work to set that up than the broadcast controller. 🤷

    • @CosmicIntroverts
      @CosmicIntroverts 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I forgot about the broadcast controller. That would be a better way to send alerts. Thanks!

    Just so you know because I see everyone do it. If you blueprint from the rear of the grid it will line up and move correctly in projectors. You can then switch the screenshot to what you want if you ever put it on the workshop/modio to share it.

    Hey bud, so first things first, Scout looks way better. Thanx for that, LOL As for the small weapons platform, im a little unsure, i get the premise, but i am a little unsure if its worth the effort. Might be better to just pick a spot you want turrets around your base and then drill down. Once you are say 50m down, you make a marker and then head back to the base, drill under your main hab and then drill in the direction of the marker you made in the hole from before. This negates the need for the extra solar and batteries and you just add in pipes underground for the turrets. Also means the turrets are large grid and so alot tougher. And because its all piped in to the main base, no need for storage at the turret. Thats what i do, it seems like a bit of work, but how long did all that take you today?? Also you could add a welder at each turret to keep it working even when being damaged.

    • @CosmicIntroverts
      @CosmicIntroverts 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Solid solution to the deployable turrets. After this episode I may just do that. I just thought it would be easy and cool to have little turrets around the base lol. Didn't think it would cause me that much time and effort. Thanks for the ideas!

    About your landing gear, use the custom turret trick,hinge then small grid piston and then it will tuck up under the ship super easy,plus look really cool when set up with event controller on a landing cycle

    I use the ACS mod from Splitse as my only 'MES' module (and all the dependancies for ACS). Splitse (and his community) built all the bases and ships and they also leave you alone until you attack them first. But once you are at war with them, i don't think you can make them stop.

    Hey bud, so the first thing that popped into my head when i saw the finished ship was "The Buttercup". Not sure why, but there it is. LOL Can you do me a small favour though, at the front of the ship you have the new cockpit windows, which is cool, under the side windows though you could change the armour pieces to make it flow a little nicer, please. The armour could flow right from the front but it pokes out and then in and then goes how the window is angled anyway. Its just for my OCD. Cheers Great vid.

    There is a mod Called 'Resource Nodes' that lets you set up a drilll on a node that auto mines the resource without needing a mining ship. It does not dig actual holes or deplete the resource. Kind of cheaty, but makes the game play more like Satisfactory. And if you set it up on asteroids, then it makes using a cargo drone actually worth while as you don't have to move it after you run out of materials.

    • @CosmicIntroverts
      @CosmicIntroverts 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    52:30 If you swap the rear custom turrets on the bottom with the hydro thrusters, you won't risk blowing them off by trying to shoot straight forward. Same conveyer setup, just swapping the placement. Could remove the thrust and lock the cannons to the deck with weld plates, then slide back till they weld, then replace the thrusters in back? 🤔

    • @shadenphoenix
      @shadenphoenix 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Keeps you from having to rebuild OR rename parts by just detaching and moving.

    • @CosmicIntroverts
      @CosmicIntroverts 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Good idea. I could also limit the hinge so the turrets won't be able to hit the thrusters. Even if I change the thruster position I'll have to limit the hinge and/or rotor to avoid damage to the thruster. Thanks, I would have learned the hard way if you didn't bring this up!

  • @shadenphoenix
    @shadenphoenix 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    17:40 Normally (unless you're relying primarily on hydro-gens for power), it's often best to put the 'when stored power is less than' to about 15% or so. That way it's not hovering above 77%. That will use a lot of ice/ hydro when you still have lots of battery power.

    Hey bud, cheers for the shoutout, and i hate to do this to you, but..... here is the comment from before:- @cabbageplays6710 3 weeks ago Hey bud, so after looking at you auto miner, i have a little idea for a better design, Connector the same, rotate the medium cargo so the small port faces down, add a conveyor converter to the bottom of the cargo. on each edge of the conveyor converter is a small hatch. Add drills to them. Put a large thruster in the middle under the conveyor converter. add a layer of full armor blocks to the top of the drills. Armor blocks should cover the hatch facing up from the drills, this will leave you with a 1 block gap all the way around the cargo for you to put stuff inside (programmable block, antenna, small batteries, remote control, etc). on each corner you have 4 thrusters all pointing 1 direction(one corner the all point south, next corner they point west, next north and last east) this will bring the height of your thrusters to the same level as the cargo. You also need to add 8 small thrusters pointing down onto each of the corners, to do this you add 2 armor blocks down on each corner of the ring of armor blocks. On the bottom of any of these you can add in your sensor. On top of the cargo you add your control place, i would pick a cockpit with a small hatch on the bottom to connect for extra storage. This will also get rid of the need for a screen as the cockpits have screens inside of them. Either side of the cockpit you should be able to fit in 2 large batteries. This will give you 4 full and upto 12 small batteries. for added run time. This should be a much more compact version of the auto miner you have. might look a little better too. Hope this helps. Great episode. You were so close, so so close, lol. I'm going to finish watching what you do with this one, Edit, So i think you were right on the lowering of the drills, that was a good thing, 5 batteries is 2 batteries too many, but as backups, its always good. For each drill i would add 4 ejectors for the stone, but if you dont mind having stone, its note really needed. I've never used the PAM script, so im not sure how that will react if it gets full on stone and starts going home, but the ejectors keep going so its empty when it gets home, would it turn around and go back to mine more, or just come home empty?? I like the scout ship, the shape is nice, i might have lowered it by 1/2 a block which would mean moving the O2H2 somewhere else, but with the room at the back, that shouldnt be too hard. Then you could add an outside 1/2 airvent to suck in O2 when you are in atmosphere. I really wish that KEEN would add in a half block connector for large grid, it would help with designing stuff so much. I like both ships tho bud, good job.

      The PAM script is pretty cool but it will not turn around once it is full. There is a function in the script to have the sorters and ejectors turn on automatically and mine for a certain ore. It will fill up with said ore until full and then head back. I've tried to use this function but it's a bit buggy. Thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate it!

    43:20 could remove the catwalk rail on that one side so you have easy access. could raise up the 'bar' arm on the rotor so you can walk under it, then put on the piston and landing gear for the second ship and turn it to the other connector so its ready to go. :D

    20:25 learned the hard way! EVEN IN ATMO... if youre in a sealed cockpit without connection to an O2 gen, youre going to use O2 just like in space. you need at least a tank or an air vent outside constantly on 'depressurize' to get air from outside into the cockpit. 😉

      @shadenphoenix 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      unless... of course they could have fixed that in the last couple years, like the suit, that they will automatically take air from the atmo if its available? i donno. it was kinda weird that it didnt before, but it still made some sense.

      Yeah. Easy thing to forget when you are building

    14:12 what about raising the med cargo up higher, since you dont need to have it straight plumbed to the side, so the large atmo can connect to the side of the converter itself partly (like sharing space with the cargo, each half way on the converter), and the med cargo on top of the atmo. it raises the atmo, and you can still extend the drills lower, and plop in some conveyors from the sides of the med cargo down to the side of the convertor or connector. you will be able to put a large battery (or 2) on top of the med cargo, then fill in the gaps around it with the automation blocks and armor and lights, and the bottom of the miner is the larger atmo, small flatmos for directions, and the drills (the more rugged part). then cover everything in some protection and youre good! 😃👍 but i digress, youre already building!

      I didn't think of doing it that way. Clever! I'll keep these ideas in mind for next time.

      @@CosmicIntroverts since you already have the 'red cabbage', this one could be an idea for the 'greed cabbage' next door on the other connector. ;P

    Whenever you would fall or "hit your head" and you'd say something like "OOF", we would just laugh and laugh! Great job on The IRON MINER (cousin to The IRON GIANT) or The Cabbage works. LOL That large grid "stealth" ship looked really cool!!! I have to admit that I just do NOT like those recessed connectors AT ALL when both the ship and the base have the same type of connector. I would prefer to have one of them as a normal connector and the other one as a recessed.

      I does make it hard to see where to connect when you use two inset connectors.
